Corrections: 1) Turkey and Egypt RECOGNIZE Kosovo as an independent country. After further research I have noticed that my 15th source (see description) was wrong. Apologies and thanks Shaddyhacker in the comments for pointing it out. 2) The Sweden Democrats, who came 2nd in the last election, aren't a part of the Swedish government. They are providing parliamentary support for the government. Normally, the party with the most votes would be included in the government, but because of ideological differences the other parties did not want to give them a formal role in the governing coalition. (Thanks Jean-Claude and Kim Laursen from the comments)

It’s good in some ways. Although your heart goes out to perspective immigrants, things like assimilation and common religion or belief systems have to be sorted out. With this trend to its logical extreme, we can get rid of this war and countries can become more free to mind their own business, including a return to more canonical organization and less blood and deaths. A trade off of security for opinions temporarily. Let’s hope this reaps good rewards.

The EU makes it very easy for the populists. Migration is a real problem that needs to be dealt with QUICKLY. I know people who aren't even far-right, but they vote for populists because they simply want their countries to stay the way they are. Also, the current news about federalization will only lead to the populists gaining more votes. People are proud of their identities and don't want to lose more sovereignty to the EU. Countries such as Poland know that if Europe's power is centralized, they will be bullied by the bigger powers to apply policies that are harmful for them. EU needs to stop trying to become a singular entity like the US and accept that the situation here is different, and people won't accept this forced unification.

I really liked how you analyzed the causes and backed it with sources. Also, mentioning solutions is a nice touch. This kind of content is really good 😊! I hope we will see more content like this. Maybe one question to tackle is, why don't the migration/migrants succeed in Europe? Are the cultural differences so big or the problems that the EU citizens have, hit them harder or something else... Yes, something has to change as the destruction of EU will geopolitically destroy every country in it, as you mentioned at the end.

My (very unimportant) thoughts on your video: 1) Missed to include Sweden in the first picture, by far even more right wing than the rest. Perhaps cause it doesn't fit the picture? 2) Meloni's speech that you show talks about stopping the Franco-German dominance over the EU sphere and protecting Italian interests, which have constantly been sold out for decades (by right and left parties) in favor of EU ones. Is that so unreasonable? 3) Households ARE worse off than 20 years. It's not a feeling, it's a fact, you could have shown the data of real salaries and growing divide between the 1% and the middle class 4) The social structure IS at risk. Look at the effects of immigration in Sweden. Crime rates have grown dramatically in the last decades, far more than the neighboring Scandinavian countries, which have accepted far less immigrants. 5) Is reduction of globalization a bad thing? Most countries are starting to bring back production in the home country, including US and Japan from China after the chain breakdown, and they are not right wing countries. Globalization has enriched the rich and made the middle class poorer. 6) Australia (non right wing) has been checking on immigration since forever. Why it's ok if they do, but not the rest? Why we need to accept everyone that wants to move in EU? Why is it a dangerous question to ask, and you get called fascists (which means dictatorship)? Why no help has been given to Italy and Hungary over the immigration management, with no redistribution? Aren't we supposed to help each other? Why IT-HU need to help immigrants, but rest of EU doesn't need to help IT-HU? 7) Why do we all NEED to be the same? Why is it so bad that our cultures differ?

1) Sweden is different because Far right is simply a member of a coalition rather than its leader
@paulf3999

2) French politicians often claims to ve f*cked by EU and German ones as well. It is hard to distinguish what was part of a bigger deal and what is actually unjust. Italy benefited greatly from EU and ECB policies, mainly about debt. Think this way : the netherlands and other northern are complaining that southern EU countries have been manipulating their way around the institutions to actually steal their wealth. It's simply human : we see the wrong we perceive as done to us by other so much more than the benefits or the wrong we cause. The british have given us ample examples as to why actually the economic union is a good idea. They immediately regretted Brexit.
@paulf3999
@paulf3999 Год назад
3) They might be worse off in term of housing and inflation, but think of how much the world has changed since ? Smartphones, internet, TV, etc. Everything is different. The development of the device you're watching this on implied a major shift in economics and yes, EU citizens have pretty much missed that train, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't have been done. In any case I don't really think completely independent national states would have protected us better.

4) I agree there and so does this video.

5) Globalization is an aggregate of individual choices, it has not worked toward any goal, it is not a single-minded entity. It has brought more centrally distributed wealth yes, but the EU has not impeded redistribution of it in any way. Also reduction in globalization might not mean low-paying industrial jobs would come back. It can simply mean less stuff for an equal amount of people.

Good video. I agree with them on most points, but the EU institutions are also making it very easy for the populists. The EU is no longer perceived as a meaningful or even helpful institution, but as a molloch for autocrats who are completely decoupled from ordinary citizens. Incomprehensible conditions are decided that completely ignore the realities of the people. Lobbying continues to stoke maximum distrust and the practically felt powerlessness. Practically every person in the EU knows a story where the EU institutions look bad at best. A Commission President that no citizen has ever been asked about, and so it goes on and on. Issues that are important to EU citizens are negotiated behind closed doors and the worst possible solution for the citizen is taken with 100% certainty. If you want to seriously counter populists, you have to make politics for the citizens and not for companies and lobby groups.

8:39 - This will never work out, you know why? Because the moment you have a different opinion than France and Germany, you become a right wing populist. How can you feel a part of a larger community if you views are being portrayed as if Joseph Goebbels stated them himself? And this is the true reason why people vote for euro-sceptic parties. It turned out that Hungary and Poland was right on the migration issue, even you stated in the video that migration must be restricted by a number of measures, yet you keep portraying them as the problem. Why are they the problem if they were right after all? Maybe if EU would not proceed with open-door migration politics (pushed through by France and Germany) maybe right now there would be no right-wing parties in Spain, Italy, Netherlands and Sweden. Maybe the cohesion of the EU would be kept. From my point of view the rise of right-wing (not necessary populist) is caused by stupid policy of the far-left parties who govern EU, mainly France and Germany. Not only their immigration policy was a fail but also their decision-making that resulted in EU being addicted to Russian resources despite multiple warnings from the "far-right populists". Yet they still paint themselves as the ones that are right and so does your video. Maybe there would be no rise of right-wing parties in Europe if we would be never addicted to Russian resources in first place. This is your problem, you stick a label "far-right populist" on everything that dares to challenge the mainstream far-left narrative and forget about issues that those parties bring up to the table. Then once the crisis erupts, those parties say "I told you" and they gain new voters. It's that simple. If the current course of action will continue, the EU will fall apart, not because of the "far-right populists" but because of the current leftists elites that fail to address obvious problems and challenges.

This is main problem of EU - Germany have too much power. Why this is problem? Because Germany can't talk with other countries. They respect only USA and China, and USA here is only because USA have dirty material on Germans. Example? Polish - German relations. When PO was in power (2007-2015), then PO was seen in Poland as a party doing exactly what Germany wanted. When PiS is in power (2015-2023), then Germany is attacking goverment quite often. If Germany would try better relations with Poland, then PiS wouldn't be in power in the first place (PiS use a lot "anty germany" statments). And why it's important? Because Poland is in top 5 of German economic partners. Like if Germany can't respect so important neightbour, then it's not surprising that Germany can't "rule" EU properly

I'm a middle age pole. When I was young I believed that EU is good and have the best Interest of Poland. Young people are naive. Now my way of thinking completely changed. 1. I hate how EU is trying to force LGBT ideology into schools - I don't want my children to end up homosexual and me getting old without grandchildren. 2. I hate bureaucracy and bureaucrats. Poland already has a problem with overblown bureaucracy. EU has the same problem. When there is new office created there is no way to close it. Bureaucrats will pretend they do something even if it doesn't have any meaning. Do I really need to support another herd of those free feeders in Brussels. 3. I hate a model where there are high taxes and the founds are redistributed by the government/EU. Bureaucrats tend to waste public money. True life example - I read about funding of IT Projects out of 10 project that took EU money only one was somewhat successful and 9 were a total failure. Private investor wouldn't waste money like that. 4. I think that EU is corrupted - Former Polish prime minister Donald Tusk was a President of the European Council. Donald Tusks son Michał Tusk worked for OLT Express company owned by Pyramid Scheme company Amber Gold that scammed 18,000 people for around 851,000,000 zł. OLT Express was an Airlines company used to launder money. Also OLT was selling tickets at price that is not sustainable just to put another Polish company LOT out of bussines. LOT was to be sold to German Airlines Lufthansa. Prime minister at the time Donald tusk aggrade that Smolensk air disaster. Where the Polish President and many politicians died. Should be investigated by Russians first, not by Poland. Politicians on plane were anti-Russian, pro-US and in opposition to Donald. It is unknown, if it was a disaster or planned execution. Russian destroyed plane wreckage, so it can't be investigated. Pols know the best you can't trust Russians. If a person like Donald Tusk gets such a high position in EU bureaucracy machine I'm afraid to know what other politicians in EU have behind ears. 5. I hate how EU is trying constantly to get more control over member states - Constant play around lack of Rule of Law in Poland is getting boring. Many EU states had disputes with EU over how much control EU gets and It was never so vocal. EU is just using some abstract reason to withhold founds. Polish government have the right to change juddery system as they see fit. They were chosen in democratic elections and represent will of polish people. Polish people know well how it is to be subject to foreign power ! 6. Lack of respect for views different than what Brussels orders - as we see in video above. Different views are not always bad. If a democratic country picks right-wing, so be it. If they pick left-wing, that is also ok in my opinion. Suppressing democracy elected governments just because they are not left-wing is definitely not democratic. Stay open minded and think for yourself.

I do not agree with you. In my opinion, the EU's main problem is its lack of understanding of active regional debate. For example, it is easy to say that Poles are conservatives who hate immigrants and this is how PIS won. But it is false. Actually, Poles voted for anti-nationalists for over 20 years and it was not a problem, but our Prime Minister, Donald Tusk, declares what should be done and did the opposite. For example, he said he would lower vat but actually did raise it, saying it was only for a year. But after a year it stayed that way. People found his old statements in which he explains why he is a demosceptic and his visions of rulling elite and the rightness of using force against the masses. After all, the high-profile scandal with leading government officials who described our country as a "cardboard state", the Foreign Minister described our policy after 8 years of demands as "doing **** to America". The majority called for elections. But the PO quickly declared the admission of migrants to Poland and quickly chose judges to the tribunal. Despite significant opposition from the majority who demanded that it be waited until the next elections. People were voting on PIS not against immigration but against Tusk (other party witch was even more aganst imigrants had 4.76% and did't pass election threshold). So how did the eu react to all of this? Elected Tusk as President of the European Council and began demanding his promises when his support was 15%, calling it "defending democracy". All propaganda was launched, showing some extreme movements with the support counted in the hundreds as the average Pole.

Sadly, people have developed a tendency nowadays to ridicule the opinion of others if it doesn't fit the own vision, and to downplay or outright deny any problems. Left parties frequently deny that illegal immigration is a problem at all, while right parties do the same on climate change. Yet any objective person will see that not only are both a real threat, they are also partly interlinked.

Agreed. Immigration is a threat and also ignores the reason why birth rates are declining. I agree that people on the right need to stop ignoring climate change. However some of the things politicians propose seem was to ridiculous or impractical. Take European nations trying to go towards EVs. They ignore the fact these materials cause awful environmental damage in nations they are dug from. They refuse to mine the few deposits on Europe. It shows the hypocrisy. These nations will fund the destruction of the environment in other nations as long as they can grand stand on being environmental friendly. Ignoring the process of how they got it.

Until Brussels stops its antics of wanting Europe to be one big federalist state then what you describe as' populism' , a word which is very dismissive of people wanting to protect their national identity, is going to be an increasingly awkward problem for the EU to address - if it ever manages to do so. It is possible that the illegal immigration will eventually break up the EU with the following countries leaving it: Holland, France, Hungary, Poland, Italy, Sweden, Germany, and others because the trend of the voters seems to vote for the political parties that are against illegal immigration. If the EU cannot fix the problem, then most likely many countries will fix the problem themselves and not let the EU decide or tell them what they can and cannot do.

Here's an Italian. There are several reasons why my people voted for Meloni despite her party's blatant support of far-right policies. 1) Fear of globalization. The elderly as well as the uneducated youth are aware they will never be able to cope with the fact Italy is no longer a regional power. Exposing themselves to foreign culture is being perceived as passive treachery. On the contrary, any form of cultural resistance is openly supported and Meloni is the last of a row of social justice champions who are good at preaching but awful at ruling a nation. 2) Misinformation and history revisionism. Mussolini remained popular in some circles because of the "so bad, it was better" mentality which every unsuccessful democratically elected government ended up reinforcing over the second half of the 20th century. The juridical system doesn't work properly? Blast democracy, Mussolini sent to jail every suspect criminals without wasting any time with any trials (it may take even 10 years for somebody to be sentenced). Is our language being poisoned by English loanwords? Under Mussolini everybody spoke perfect Italian (which is nonsense, Standard Italian became dominant after WW2). 3) Christianity as a cultural pride. Don't be surprised if neo-fascists and religious fundamentalists are getting along. They both despise any deviation from Christian dogma and liberalism is seen as a submission to lavishness and a sign of weakness of the soul. Not to mention the Church often provides small communities the same social welfare which is provided by the State after years of waiting. Again, this is the result of over 60 governments entering and exiting both Houses of the Parlament without giving a fuck to their electors. 4) Fear of going extinct. Under the logic of neo-fascists, losing one's sexual freedom to choose your partner is better than seeing your population getting smaller and smaller to the point of standing upon on the brink of extinction. That's also why LGBTQ+ people are their favorite target: they aren't just promoting what fundamentalists perceive as an act against nature, but their sterility (as if adoptions weren't a thing) is also putting the future of their country in jeopardy. How do I know all this stuff, you may ask? I was bullied at school by schoomates who were being raised with this mindset. Of course, my teachers never batted an eye on this matter because they were also secretly in favour of reintroducing authoritarian policies to discipline the youth. Good thing I never gave in.

Good content! Current situation is very concerning: competitiveness lagging behind due to a not well-thought green transition, focus on war and not on peace, imposing uncontrolled and Illegal immigration which, as seen in other places, increases criminality, abuses of social support, tension, violence and become a national security issue. In short, EU leaders are transforming its member states into poorer and unsecure countries (you can research the stats), because they are playng with the future of EU citizens The results of their policies and diplomatic work translates into a highly uncertaint state for further development within an emerging multipolar world. It is very difficult to improve people's participation in EU elections, if the election results are not fully respected and top jobs are not transparently and merit-based nominated. In this confusing time, supporting family and christian values, and caring for peace and your country are the righ thing to do. By the way, if people vote more for the far-right parties because they address their major concerns, why is it perceived as a problem to be fix? This is democracy working. EU leaders should interpret the message and adjust course.

Its because we dont share values or a common political culture in Europe. The EU needs to do less better not more worse. The EU should be a forum where European nations can cooperate when there intrests align and nothing more. Its time to abandon the fantasies of a European super power, it would not make our countries better and it would not make us safer. Im curious, 🤔 If the point of this video is to analyze "right-wing populism" and more so, how the EU can better address the "populism" part (which I'm still having trouble understanding why you've linked terms to begin with), then it seems pretty obvious that you yourself, in addition to your fellow Europeans, agree that whatever the EU has been doing, aint working out. Now, if you are of the opinion that countering the problems is a good thing, and that "right-wing" is a bad thing, but only the "right-wing" is actually offering solutions to the problems that you admit need to be addressed, but are against adressing them if the "right-wing" is the one who ends up doing it..... then you sir, are an ideologue. Here in America, we refer to people such as yourself as having, "Trump derangement syndrome". A mental decease brought about when, 'the orange man' showed up and said, "Ok, you've had your fun, but this shit ends now, Daddys home" Whenever a group of entitled and sheltered individuals, are held accountable for their practices for the first time, the result is to be expected. Back in the day, we tried a more tactful approach. Reagan and his smooth words was able to 'dumb it down' without making it sound patronizing, which worked extremely well for the short-term, but ultimately didn't kill the vine, because he we are. Trump simply surgar coat it. He was very vocal and open about the problems we all know exist. Moreover, he pulled back the curtain and showed us what the hive of ideologues who no doubt 'educated' you were actually doing, which had the effect of a firecracker thrown in cave full of sleeping bears, which will ultimately bring about our next civil war I'm sure, but sometimes it be that way. There's a reason why I brought up 'education' like that. There is a very real universal truth. An education only comes from understanding and understanding only comes from doing, yet those who can not do, teach, and teach they have! Which is probably the reason why experience is chosen over degrees, in 99 out of a 100 institutions today. To many teachers. Not enough doers. But at least you had fun while it lasted, right? Daddys home.

I agree with the statement that there's concern about the future and about national identity. For example, as Italian I was quite excited to be part of EU and our partecipation was kinda important since we are the third economic power of Europe. But about European integration, while being part of Europe and define myself as European is a good thing, I continue to feel to be a foreign in this continent because I always hear more voices against us than those who stands with us. People that says we are lazy or corrupt and wants to relegate us to a lesser marginar role in European political life. I don't want to be the working mule of an Union that doesn't care about me and my culture but expect me to make much of the work without any recognition. We literally threw tons of money to EU to make sure our allies in the Union was able to thrive and trade and then these people call us "lazy"? Or "corrupt"? After the trillions of euro we gave to them each year? Maybe we should just consider to let Germany fail, and with it also the rest of EU, and then assume the leadership of Europe by ourselves and impose new laws that really grants dignity and justice for all. Not only and always for those privilidged ones. I remember those reports about gas prices from Gazprom to Europe few years ago when we noticed that Germany paid less for more gas than what Poland had the chance to deal. Is that justice? Why polish have to pay more for the same amount of gas than the Germans if they are closest to Russia? You know the answer. Because Germany is the biggest power of Europe so it counts more than others. Same for us Italians when we opposed to the war in Libya. We had agreements with the Libyans, we had business with them, we had the situation at hand. But British and French decided to ignore us and start a war that led directly to this immigrant humanitarian crisis. And the Americans decided even to back up these fools. Not enough, Britts that fears immigration decided to close their borders, but that was against European policies, so they left EU to do that. Everything revolves around these big motherfuckers. Always. We counts nothing. If this is the equity of EU, then I say we must change it. And it's better that Americans and Russians and Chinese this time to stay out of our business or things will get truly awful for all.

Thinking that America was built to be something new, that cut the ties with the old world to forge a new world where to live free and in peace, and instead it looks like having to deal with the Third Reich/Soviet Union 2.0 its a fucking shame. It's even humiliating because we adopted some of those concepts like "not waging wars to fix problems between countries" just to discover that we are among the few that truly believes in this bullshit. It came to my mind to ask what was the point of WW2 and those 75 years of humiliation if America and the other Allies are just the same scum of the Axis powers? All our deaths, all our sacrifices, all our blood, wasted for nothing. Italy still has more than 2500 billion euros in outstanding debt to the EU, which is why you pay so much. You already got that money to fix your economy and now have to pay back. If you would pay trillions like you said, that debt would have been repaid, which it has not, so you do not. This is exactly the blatant lies populists tell you to hate on the EU, which you apparently believe. Aside from that, it wouldn't have been a picknick for both Italy and the EU if NATO would have let the military dictator Gadaffi oppress the Libyans and build nukes right next to Europe, don't you think? Northern Europe also took in millions of refugees from southern Europe and the EU had diplomats running around fulltime to get countries to take back illegal refugees. Don't go yelling that populist bullshit here, everyone involved is doing what they can to solve these problems together. They can do better sure, but Italy can do better as well.
