I was waiting so long for this moment. At the same time I had some fear. This is my first bigger heli with beltdriven tail. The fear had no reason: My very first flight mith my OMP M4 went fantastic! It was so much easier to fly this beautiful bird than I thought! More stable, very predictable, very precise, very powerful and very present in the air. With the help of my friend Matthias Plura I set this beautiful helicopter perfectly up. One reason why it is flying so precise. The many hours of work and at the same time fun are paying off now! If you love the rotor sound of fullsize helicopters you should go for such a bigger machine like the OMP M4 with a rotor diameter of 875 millimeters. The best thing is: Used to smaller helis like the M1 and the M2 I thought that these bigger machines would be frightening.The opposite is the case: Already in my very first flight this heli was behaving so predictable and so precise, that I developed very fast a lot of confidence. From the first minute I felt this machine. No surprises, no strange behaviour. She was just doing what I wanted her to do. So if you can fly small helis, you will be surprised how much easier it even is to fly the bigger ones. Anyway I am happy that started with the small ones. Because they are light, if you crash, you will have much less damage done to them. Parts are cheaper, batteries are cheaper. But if you have a nice budget that allows you some unwanted expenses then go right away for a bigger heli. Many things are happening a bit slower that with the small birds. And you anyway have to have respect in front of them. Even smaller helis can cause some harm.

Yes it really is!! It is amazing that she is not a bit intimidating! She behaves so precise that you feel as the pilot that you have the full control. She does what you tell her to do. Not less, not more. No reason for fear, if you keep this baby in safe distance to yourself, others and animals!!

@johnblyth6453 Hi Johnny! I am using the MSH Brain 2 Flybarless in my M4 and this one, the M4 Max! I was a complete beginner to kits and had no experience and with the help of a fellow pilot I managed to understand this system. It's not overcomplicated, especially the software for the laptop to setup the heli. I never had a problem with it and for my flying style, sports flying with elements of 3D acrobatics it works great! Hope this helps and best greetings from Katowice Poland to Wales!! Happy flights!!

Torque tube or belt drive ? And which is your preference?
@RCCopterLove
@RCCopterLove 10 месяцев назад
@nxtgen2b416 To be honest so far I built only two helis with belt drive. It's not the easiest job to get the belt with the excact right amount of twist through the tailboom, the camps in the frame and on the belt pulley. But once it's done it worked flawlessly. I have many of hundrets of flights on my M4 now and never had a problem. As the belts seem to last a long time its a good solution for me. I have seen some crash videos here on youtube when torque tubes were breaking or had mailfunctions... What is your personal preference?

@@RCCopterLove torque tube. Built both drive unit types but over-all reliability has to go too torque tube. Just my personal opinion.

Edit: When I finished the setup of this machine without main and tailblades I was mounting one of the tail blades the wrong way. So one tail blade was mounted in the right direction, the second "backwards". 😮 I got warned by someone who knows this machine very well: Jonas Wackershauser. He immedeately send me a message. 👍 I am still amazed that she was still flying so well!! I changed it right away and was flying with the right directions of both tail blades and she flies even much, much better. The tail reacts so precise now!! What a machine if even an Idiot like me cannot disturbe the performance with his faults!!

@RCCopterLove
@RCCopterLove 10 месяцев назад
@shannonkompsi9942 Yes, thats true! With bigger helis you have a bit more time to react, because the moves, flips, rolls are a happening bit slower! On the other hand as a still new pilot I am having sometimes in mind that a crash would be more costly and the damage would be bigger... Then I take my small M2 and fly more "free" and do the more crazy stuff I want to do. Smaller consequences for my purse if i fail! 😀 Thanks to God I have a sim now and I can "experiment" much more without any finacial consequences! Thanks for the nice words in your comment!

Thank you Andy! It was a gret journey to first build this machine. My first ever kit. So far I was just buying M1's and M2's, opening the foambox, binding them to the TX and that was it! It was making me proud when this beauty was standing ready in front of me. I thought: I built it n my own, with my own hands! That made me proud. The setup and electronics I got done only with a lot of help (online!!). But when I have seen her the first time in the air I was happy like crazy!! And now every day I get to know her better and better. But I want to know her like my pocket (or better say my M2's) before I do more crazy stuff!! Happy flying! The learning will never end!!

@@RCCopterLove You're right, the M4 sounds incredible, its tone is distinctive. I'm also using EdgeTX and FrSky, but with Spirit GT flybarless. I started as a beginner in the nitro FM radio days, with a big gap before returning to the hobby. Wow, there is a lot to learn now. My M4 build is nearing completion and I definitely feel you with the fear comments. Real life flying hits differently from the simulator, especially when launching a new bird. I fly my M1 Evo in a public park so I'm always paranoid of dogwalkers and such entering the area. Happy flying ✌

@@beastehful Oh yes, the learning curve when setting up the M4 was steep! Radiomaster and Edge TX, FrSky RX, Brain 2 FBL... If my dear friend would not have helped me giving me many hours of his time, I would not have managed it. Looks like that M4 flies like a dream! Can you maybe give me some advice? I started flying a micro heli (xk k110s) a few weeks ago and i love it. For now comfortably flying tail in and nose in and practicing side orientations. I’m crashing less and less. When i can fly all orientations, i want to buy a bigger heli. I was thinking about the m2 until i saw your video. The m4 looks more controllable than the m2. Is that so? In the simulator i really like the bigger heli’s. Should i go directly to the m4? Or is the m2 a better option, coming from the micro heli?
@RCCopterLove
@RCCopterLove Год назад
Hi! When I am completely honest I think going directely for an M4 would be a step too big. I think the M2 EVO will be a better step on the way to an M4. The M2 is unbelievable durable and crash resistant. If you fly over higher grass chances are very high that you dont have any damage if you crash not too hard. It weights just 335 grams. The M4 weights about 1350 grams and just this weight means that there will be damage if you build it. Also binding a RTF (ready to fly) M2 to the transmitter is much, much easier than the buliding the M4, setting up a flybarless... As you have seen in my build video this was a challenge for me. I would recommend you to go for a M2 EVO first. I love this heli and the performance is just amazing. And if you feel really comfortable with this heli, get used to the speed and power then it will be time for the M4. But better dont rush. Have fun and great progress!!
@frisos3944
@frisos3944 Год назад
@@RCCopterLove thanks a lot! I will likely go for the m2. M4 is probably to big for my flying field anyways.
@RCCopterLove
@RCCopterLove Год назад
@@frisos3944 Thats another important and good point! To fly with the M4 in a safe way you need a bigger space without people and dogs or other animals... this machine attracts more attention than micros. And the first spoolup with the M4 made some real impression on me... I felt the power of the motor, the sound of rotor blades. Take your time and go step by step. It will be more rewarding and less frustrating. Safe flights!!
