Guy’s what an outstanding video. Yes all politicians are short term and focused on themselves. Living in cheap countries is the best way to retire. I am retiring at Christmas at 55, and with a pension, and investments I intend to enjoy life. Your view of the UK is right on the money, don’t waste your time in London, because this is not a true reflection of the UK. Live in the north, and travel south to see other interesting things. Stay safe the two of you.

Cheap countries yes, but with free speech also. Authoritarian regimes where I will have to self-censor are out of the question. Out of the question are also places with thousands of ex-pats living in their own bubble despite the locals .

Nice to see you both back! It was a great video. Tons of interesting information! In chronological order, in response to things as they came up. We visited Northern Ireland in 2019. I’d not been there since my childhood. Belfast really surprised me, as someone who only knew of it during “the troubles” it is very much worth more time for us. We’ll certainly go back. Joey has wanted to take us to Argentina. He’s been there and loved it. His main concern about taking us there, right now, is related to the instability of the currency. We were in Bulgaria in June, though only for a five days. I was expecting post communist ugh, but Sofia left a very positive impression upon us with a lot of beautiful history buildings and open plazas. The city was extremely walkable and the subway convenient when we needed it. Extensive trams and buses too, thought we never rode one. Any city that has their primary airport on the subway gets a big thumbs up from me. The people were very friendly and a lot of English was spoken, though definitely varied. Plovdiv was very pleasant and we couldn’t have picked a better hotel. Train transport between the two was pretty comfortable and well worth the extra few dollars (for us) to upgrade to a first class ticket. There’s another city in Bulgaria, the former capital Veliko Tarnovo, that we’d hope to visit, but we’ll save that for another trip. Thank you for answering my first question! Having never been to South East Asia, I can only go on the opinions of others, which seem to mirror yours, though others have said there are near equivalent opportunities in parts of Latin America and Eastern Europe. Not that I’ve done a ton of research on this. My geo-arbitrage was moving from the UK to Canada 13 years ago! Regarding a carry-on only travel, have you read Chris Englert’s ( Eat. Walk. Learn.) book: 2 Carryons and a plan? While it wouldn’t work for us long term, there’s a lot in there that definitely has helped us for shorter trips, our Bulgaria trip for instance, and it’s a fun read. Wow, listening to you talk about your tech, yes you were speaking right to me. Had he been sat next to me (and not pottering around Thessaloniki), I’m sure Joey would have been giving me some serious side-eye! Interesting your opinions about your weekly schedule and the editing time. We follow a, formerly Disney, RU-vidr who moved to more random adventures. He felt somewhat constrained by the need to upload weekly and felt that he would rather put out content when he had something to put out. While sometimes his videos are weekly, sometimes they are monthly and he takes breaks now and again. His usual episode length is easily 45 mins to just over an hour. Once he stopped publishing weekly and his videos became more his random travelogues, his subscriber base jumped massively. I believe most of his content is shot on a single DSLR, though he does sometimes use iPhone footage too. He also seems to edit a lot of his content on the road on a MacBook Pro (not sure what the model is, I’ve just seen it in the background of some of his videos in his hotel rooms). The quality of your videos has always improved. You’ve definitely put a lot of effort into your structure and edits. Looking forward to your next videos!

Hello again- glad to see you two back! We just finished a short holiday in Istanbul and we feel like we could stay in Turkey for a very long time. We still have 6-7 years left before we are able to sell the house and begin slow traveling; seems like a lifetime away though really. Appreciate the financial side talks as we are seemingly mirroring your situation - mostly VOO with a few other things but mostly VOO. We’re starting to shift our mindsets into selling things vs. buying/bringing anything new into the house but one aspect we’re still struggling with - what to do with the things we want to have after age “65/70” when we will finally pick a place to stay… A climate controled storage facility seems obvious but honestly can’t be trusted to not go out of business or to evict (or worse) our items due to a payment conflict/whatever over the course of a decade or what if they have storm/water damage??? Still need a plan there… Your both also still in our thoughts during your time of dealing with your family and hope to see more soon! Oliver & Bobbie

Loved the video! Very informative. We retired at 58 and 56 back in 2020. Our drawdown strategy is to convert our traditional IRA into a Roth IRA a little each year not exceeding the 12/15% tax bracket until we start drawing Social Security probably at 65. I move all into cash back in Oct/Nov 2021 when the market was down 3.75%. Still in cash for now. Will eventually start slowly moving back into the market. Don't know when yet.

What a great set of questions. I enjoyed hearing your responses. It was a bit like catching up with you. Your resilience during these times is an inspiration for us early retired travelers. You are so right about developing an asset allocation that you are comfortable with. Despite the recent downturn in the markets, our asset allocation, combined with geo arbitrage, has us feeling pretty comfortable from a financial standpoint. Looking forward to your videos on geo arbitrage, as it is a large part of our strategy as well. Also looking forward to hearing more about your future travel plans.

Guys, I am so happy to see this video. I was quite concerned about how things were going. First off Sarah's hoodie. You both have "Found your dream in each other". You didn't say estate wise what plans you have if there is any money left after you guy s depart. I am available!! Just kidding, I am older than both of you, I would suggest leaving it to cats seeing as though you are quite fond of them. As far as finances, I retired in March and I have a pension. I have Savings and a retirement account but I am very conservative. Over the years I could have done MUCH better but currently it is serving me well as I have not suffered great losses (yet). I had some health issues that surgery corrected so we have not dug into our savings at all because we couldn't go anywhere or do anything. We have actually offset our losses from being able to save. The cost of living has raised significantly since March, it is expensive to do anything. I would Love to travel but my wife isn't as keen about it and my mother is local and needs help. You mentioned the incompetence of your government. What about the Senile Chinese Traitor that has been in Washington for the last 22 months? He is the one who started this financial crisis with his idiotic policies and shutting down the US energy infrastructure. Sorry, I get very angry about that lot. It sounds like you really Loved Turkey but sadly they are hurting as well as Argentina is really suffering. My two choices to go to would be Thailand and Ecuador although I wouldn't mind seeing the Phillipines. Please be safe, it must be heartening to know that you have so many "friends, and followers".Take care.

Thanks so much for this thoughtful video. Lots of good information. I totally agree with you regarding not worrying too much about the markets. The markets go up and they go down. Trying to time the ups and downs is a recipe for disaster. We are just staying the course and not changing anything. We don’t expect to have to make any withdrawals from retirement funds for at least ten years so there will likely be lots of ups and downs between now and then. Erin, our financial guru will ensure that we are doing ok.

Very interesting video. I'm in the UK too. I wondered about taxation. As I understood it, if you stay anywhere for more than six months in a year, you automatically become domiciled for taxes there that year. It's much simpler to deal only with UK taxes but don''t you need a UK address to be resident and domiciled here? I'm 64 and have considered moving around for a while but I couldn't retain an address here and so many aspects of life and bureaucracy, such as banking and taxes, do seem to require an address (that can't be a PO box).

To your last question, I work a contracting gig four to six weeks each year (usually in the spring from the beginning of March to the middle of April) that nets me between $40,000 and $50,000. This provides me a minimal amount of pain for a lot of gain, prevents dipping into the 401K and IRA, and allows me to do the travel that I'm capable of doing while I'm attending my masters classes at college. Oh and I'm 58. Getting my masters is just something that was on my list of things I wanted to do. It might end up being a third career at some point as it's in a passion area for me - pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure. Technically, I don't have to work, and the only reason I'm not out traveling like you is that I have to wait for my better half to catch up to me :-).

One thing that is a must is heading around the peninsular one day to the small costal town of Oludeniz, there is a mountain where paragliders take off and they land on the beach in front of you. A great place to grab a beer and just watch the craziness happen in front of you. Once you have done that, take the cable car to the top of the very same mountain to watch them take off... again, a great place to grab a beer up there and check out the amazing view. Also in Oludeniz is an area called "Blue Lagoon" which is a must visit. Other than that, the path that leads around Fethiye is great to spend time on. Let me know if you would consider renting a pushbike to go along the front there and I can put you in touch with a fantastic guy we met that rents bikes. You'll have a great time. Best wishes Neil

Welcome back. I was so excited to see the notification bell this morning. Wow, you came back with a giant information video that I will have to rewatch. I'm not sure how much of a break you had. Love hearing about the travel, especially your picks for possibly settling for longer-term living. The financial information will be helpful to those who understand what you are talking about. lol I still like hearing about your strategy though and how you got to the place where you can travel for 10 years. Looking forward to next week's video.

Great informative video covering a hell of a lot of ground, cool format too. Big thanks to both of u. A quick hello from Cape Town (where the currency is of such a sh#t nature that geo-arbitrage could never come in to play 🙈) Two requests please 🙏 1) yes please more info on tax planning/efficiency within the context of being tax resident in the UK & traveling 2) Yes-please with regards to a bit of additional humor. It's garden question time again and I'm so glad to see you're both doing so well. There's such a massive contrast between your retirement plan and mine. I would describe yours as extreme but considered and mine is impulsive but also considered (but that's probably an oxymoron come to think of it!). We all get to the same point in different ways and then do the best with what we end up with. I'd like you to consider what advice you would give people in their early twenties ie like my daughter. She never gives her retirement any thought - it's too far away and abstract for her to give it any thought. Q. How do we try to ensure our kids take the right steps at an early age? Sorry - a long one! x

I’m reading “the simple path to wealth” I believe 2goRoam mention this book also and the author of the book calls it (F$&*you) money, meaning once you have some wealth built up you can pretty much do what you want such as quit your job, go travelling etc. maybe not set for life but just have options. I’m going ro try and sell it this way to my young adults.

Excellent responses guys, thank you so much. Your next video is being eagerly awaited. Geo arbitrage enabled us to reach fi years before we would have been in a HCOL area. The secret sauce of geo arbitrage mixed with the magic of compounding over multiple years helped elevate our fi. Its also meant we can now easily transition back to a HCOL area whilst utilising guard rails that would previously have pushed us outside our safety parameters. Very happy to see you are doing a video on the secret pillar to FI....Geo Arbitrage. PS. Let us know when your ready to make the dream of travelling nz a reality. We would be beyond excited!!

That was a fantastic video. Really informative, courtesy of all those lovely people who asked questions. I basically know absolutely nothing about finances and “drawdown strategies”. I’m quite ignorant and lack understanding in this area because I have the military pension, which would be considered a “gold-plated” income. This pension alone is enough to sustain me when considering geo arbitrage. For the last two months in Thailand I have come under what my pension will be by over £400. (Not receiving my pension yet because the Army is still paying me a proper wage until February). This gives me quite a bit of fudge factor. So without even considering that I have two mortgage free houses and will have another within 6 months I feel really secure that the pension covers me anyway. Also, I’m naturally quite frugal and I’m a guy who travels with a carry on so I really don’t have a lot to spend my money on. I’ll buy the new iPhone once a year and that’s about it. It is also my intent, moving forward to continue saving and continue buying houses for the rental market. Within 10 years from now, that will have an exponential effect due to more income and more savings. By the way, I rode past your old apartments in Chiang Mai today. The rooftop looked pretty cool. My future travels include a flight to Kolkata on 24th Oct then overland travel to Rajasthan then get a flight to Istanbul on 13th Dec to see my missus for Xmas and New Year. Then I’m on a flight to Nepal on 02nd Jan so I can start my trek to base camp so I can be there for my 40th birthday. And I know what you mean about those parasites in Chiang Mai. 😬 Keep up the good work homies.

@ryanbooth8421 Год назад
@@2GoRoam I’m not an inspiration, I just don’t value food or accommodation that highly and it makes my travel experience a lot more affordable. I’m just really content with minimal possessions. Let’s see how that pans out when I’m 50 or 60. Looking after my health will allow me to adopt that younger philosophy for a bit longer. But hopefully, by the time I’m 50-60 my strategies might have paid off and I can ford to splurge (not that I ever will because I’m too tight). Always about the next income stream for me. I’m sure we will meet up at some point along the way. The world is actually a small place.

Great video! Question -when you get to an age where you'll need help because of some physical stuff, have you planned for this? I'm from the US and if and/ or when you need help at home or God forbid need to go into assisted living the costs for this is sky high. It is very hard in my country to plan for this and calculate the cost. Does UK health plan help or other social programs you may have? I tend to hold on to my money a little more tightly because of this. Glad you are doing well. Always enjoy your perspective.🙄
