She didn’t say don’t shoot transition 3s. She said don’t shoot them when your offense is struggling and needs to get rhythm. Any coach will tell you this. Caitlin should pay you guys for all the whining you do on her behalf.
@@dp2120 Thank you. Clarke superfans are extremely delusional and think she deserves special treatment from the league. They would rather watch a Clarke shootaround than a competetitive basketball game.
Kinda both... hitting a long range transition 3 bomb can certainly help rally your team with a big boost of energy.. but miss them too often (if someone else is wide open below) and it can have the opposite energy-sucking effect. If you are coaching the best long range shooter in women's basketball history.. perhaps as a team... you get everyone to buy into the idea of letting her shoot and chasing the long rebounds so you can win games using her exceptional range (which opens up the inside game). Fever needs to adjust to make use of this exceptional tool... as much as Clark needs to sort out how to get her fellow players involved. Time will help this, but a change in team attitude is probably more important.. hopefully Coach Sides can figure this out.
EVERYONE couldn't believe it when Sides publicly stated during the press conference that she wanted Caitlin Clark to take "long two's". While she's at it, Sides should tell Caitlin to "sleep after every meal" or "go into the woods without using mosquito repellent". Sides is crazy.
@@anthonypuccetti8779 Yep~ she's having a bad week for sure. I think she should have stayed with Iowa for another season. Meanwhile, in my home city of Las Vegas, Kate Martin is having a wonderful time with the Aces. I actually ran into her at my local grocery store lol
Christie Sides would coach a young Michael Jordan to rebound and work on his defensive skills. She would tell Mahomes not to throw no look passes and to hand off more.
The first Fever game was excruciating to watch. What is Boston doing bringing the ball up the court? As CC-Iowa fan I am going through major withdrawal -- where is the CC run and shoot transition game that everyone wants to see? Christie Sides is going to break CC's bad habits? Long 2's? Idiotic!
7:10 Caitlin Clark was upset at Sides in that clip because Sides failed to challenge an incorrect ref call. She didn't use her official challenge at all in that game. Sides is no head coach.
You can say that again ! ! I totally "agree' with you and your observations and comments. * Indiana Fever Coach Christie Sides is ( NO = WNBA ) professional coach ! ! * Reminds me of a "High School Coach" and still ( NOT ) winning games and another losing 🏀season ! ! It's time for Coach Christie Sides to GO ! ! :)
Yep she needs to get Caitlin play to her strengths and not insist on what she wants caitlin to do. Just like what Kerr did to Curry, elevate Caitlin's game. She needs to be replaced with a coach like steve kerr or D'antoni style.
Sides is out of her depth with Caitln. You don't coach a once in a lifetime player with this much talent the way you coached a team that came in dead last the previous season.
I believe the Fever was going to do this with their 3rd round pick but the Aces beat them to it. It worked out great for Kate though as she got to go to the White House with the Aces AND will probably get a championship ring this year before Caitlin does.
Caitlin does not need Lisa Bluder to get the most out of her. Caitlin is not the problem. The problem is these other players are not in shape to run the floor at a high pace. The Big 3 ladies over 6'3" cannot get up and down the floor. Boston does not know the playbook. Caitlin is constantly waiting for Boston to get to the spot. One play she went the opposite way and then started to circle around. Caitlin just went away from her and through up a 3. Caitlin cannot start a fast break and anticipate where the players is suppose to be. They never get there. Caitlin is frustrated because these women are not as dependable as her Iowa teammates were. They were all out all the time. AB was so tired the other night she could not do basic screens to free Caitlin.
I said the same thing when I watched the game. I was yelling at the tv like why are yall never in position!!! CC see yall and yall ain’t never there or never ready. They don’t anticipate a pass or nothing. they didn’t adjust to the defense either. I hope CC can come out of this continue to develop despite her odds with this team. She and AR are the only reasons I’m watching and like what I see from both of them and want to see them flourish and hopefully Paige will declare for the draft and that’ll give me 3 to watch
@@HENDO24 AB is typical WNBA player and why the league is boring. Can't run can't finish half court game only. She was rookie of the year scored 4 points. WNBA isn't going to be popular long if they don't change.
Why did they pick CC if they have no intention of letting her control the ball? It’s like the coach is trying to undo everything that she is good at. The rest of the team need to step up and actually catch CC’s passes and then score. So many missed shots around the rim. I feel CC’s college team mates handled the ball better than her pro team mates.
This is a nightmare! As a woman, and a big basketball fan, I don't ever remember a male coach dissing a rookie - especially one like CC. People love her and I love my UCONN Huskies. And, I can't imagine Geno making disparaging remarks about his players unless he's spoken to them first. He does say some things and shows his annoyance, but all of that is because he is a perfectionist. With reason! He has 11 National Championships under his belt, and I might add that Caitlin Clark has not led her team to ONE.
YEP! They should have drafted Caitlin's entire IOWA team--along with the coach. They knew how to their their butts up and down the court. Transition was the name of the game, and it was a winning game.
@@digitalsoldier-1742 I'm a 33 yr UConn fan..I've seen players that put Caitlin in perspective...notice that Katie Lou is on this team as well...and for a reason!!

CC is a special talent and she needs to learn many things but she also needs to maximize what she does best. Pulling up from 2 is an art that all of her players need to learn not just CC in my opinion. Nobody wants to watch a game of layup being scored
@@jexcel07She is probably talking about mid range in general. Caitlin has no mid range game and not much of a floater game either. She needs to develop these things if she is going to be an elite scorer in this league.
Caitlin Clark is a generational player. Christie Sides is not, by any means, a generational coach. CC still had 20 points in her debut with little help from her teammates. Negative-Negative.

@@back2sports They showed Lisa Bluder at in attendance the Liberty vs Fever game. She was sitting right behind the Fever bench. The Fever WILL hire Bluder as the Fever head coach soon. Mark my words!
Nothing like hanging your player out to dry. Christie should be careful what she says to the media. It was totally uncalled for. Caitlin has growing pains. The Fever needs to be included in the comments. They win and lose as a team. Your team is not physical at all. Stop putting it all on Clark.
Cc already only the 4th player in wnba history to score over 50 points and have over 15 assists in their first 3 games, she's still on pace to be a legend, sides needs to go she's a terrible coach
This coach literally threw the team under the bus saying they need to take more pride in their game. Hahahaha. SHE IS THE PROBLEM. Literally ruining everyone’s confidence.

Why is the Indiana Fever and Sides enamoured with Wheeler? I’ve seen a couple of pre-season videos where the first suggestion was to trade or cut Wheeler . Can someone who know what value does she add to this team? She’s very sweet when getting interviewed and gets in with Clark but that doesn’t translate on court. If they want Wheeler they should trade Clark.
Kevin Simmons posted one of the best responses on this topic: As my high school coach had once said to me, "Pressure can either create a diamond or it can bust through a solid metal pipe, and it's absolutely no different when it comes to human beings" And I accepted right then and there, his challenge to decide which way I would play. There is immense pressure at this time on Caitlin Clark. And It's starting to show. And It's actually coming from both sides. On one side, there is the pressure that comes with the expectation of greatness. On the other side, there is the constant unrelenting pressure of meeting those very lofty expectations. And it's beginning to show on her. We all go through it. When Diana Taurasi said publicly that things were about to get much more difficult because these are grown woman who are doing this for a living, and that there are levels to this game, plenty of people jumped all over her for that. They painted her as arrogant, mean spirited, and jealous. But they left out the most important part. That she was absolutely right. Due to the constant belittling and total disrespect of the league as well as its talent, those who haven't actually watched any games, really didn't know just how good these women really are. But they now are finding out. Does Caitlin Clark have a target on her back?? Most definitely, and the disrespected players of this league have their sights aimed directly at it. As well they should. Just like Bird, Magic and pretty much every other college star had on them when they turned pro. It is what it is. Caitlin Clark is now going through the classic adjustment period that all of us face whenever we are presented with a new challenge in life. And this case, she is doing it with all brand new teammates and coaching staff on just 2-4 weeks practice, right after playing in college. So I, for one, honestly think that she will eventually adjust and will end up doing just fine. But for those people who were calling her the GOAT 🐐 before she even played one WNBA game. Or even thought that she would easily dominate the league from day one, you have really done her a serious disservice. Your total and complete lack of knowledge or respect for the women's game has only made it worse for her. But now that the league finally has earned your undivided attention. Please feel free to watch and respect the OTHER great talents that have been in the league for quite awhile now, and while your at it, all the other rookies coming in as well. There's is plenty of room for that too!!!!
How can a girls college ball team be 200% better than the WNBA? Part of that is the talent of the players of course but also the coaching and strategy. Yes, Clarke is a talent but when you see the synergy, fitness, the defence quality of the WHOLE IOWA TEAM, they were amazing to watch. Sides seems to be bringing Clarke down to the existing players level, when she should be raising the teams fitness and game up to match Clarkes!
I've watched my first 4 wnba games ever this month and I'm about done. 2 years ago I started watching IA in March and even after the first game I was rooting for some of the other girls because they were going all out. By Final four the next year I knew the starters and even a bench player or two and was actually rooting for them because they all played hard as hell for being tiny and less skilled. CC doesn't even need greatness around her she just needs DAWGS that have her back and occasionally show up
@chawmcgraw4309 The Liberty and the Sun were two of the top three best teams last year. Indiana will play these teams for their third and fourth game this year. Them being beat by them shouldn't turn you away. They do this to everyone.
@@khalfanjunim2982 The reason I don't watch is because how can a team like Indiana be called "Pro" with or without CC. Maybe it is the coaching. But I've never seen such a fat slow useless ROY in any sport. And I've never seen as bad of a "Team" as Indiana in middle school. They just stand there off the ball and miss layups if they get it.
@chawmcgraw4309 I literally just said that played against two of the best teams in the league and there are plenty of teams in other leagues that were worse than they were last season. If you don't want to watch that's your choice.
More long 2s is an insane thing to say in 2024! Clark is pressing early on, and I severely underestimated just how much the vets in that league resented all the attention she's getting. Her defenders are staying really close to her no matter where she's at and they're reacting aggressively to every move she makes. If she manages to beat her primary defender, someone else is helping immediately and aggressively. Teams are definitely trying to send her a message. She'll eventually start getting rid of the ball quicker when help comes and back cutting off the ball to counter the pressure. If her teammates are smart, they'll start cutting to the open space when their defenders are focused on her. She's shown that she can create space at that level for those off the dribble 3s she likes, and she's made some great passes. Although her scoring was worse against NY, she played way more under control in that game than she did against CONN. She'll be fine.
If the Fever had a GM or owner with any vision, any vision at all, Bluder would have been hired before Clark was drafted. But irrelevant franchises with a history of complete and utter incompetence don't have the brains to connect the dots. Besides, this team is so bereft to talent that it would take any coach months if not years to turn it around.
This team needs a sit down with coach bluder and told I am the coach and you are the players and we will build a culture of winning but it takes all of you to buy into it and put the work in to accomplish that ! We are all going to get into condition . Fatigue makes cowards of us all . The right starting five and coaching on the bench to players to teach in the moment. Constructive criticism not belittling . Sides cannot game coach = deer in the headlights and loss of confidence by the players ! Oh yeah two can beat up the opposition best player . I would have had two bigs roughing up Breanna Stewart until the opposing coach got the message ! You got to think on your feet man !
@@victorforeman7056 You’re right, she is further behind the eight ball than a lot of other rookies that play within more pro style offenses in college. She was able to thrive just shooting threes and layups in college, but that won’t work at this level.
So she's the WNBA version of Michael Jordan? That pedestal people have placed her on is TOO high. But I wish her well though. Take care everyone.@@victorforeman7056
Lisa Bluder is 63 years old. Her best team graduated. In spite of a high rated group of recruits incoming, Rather than starting over to rebuild she retired. The Indiana Fever were the worst team in the WNBA in 2023. WNBA pay is a lot less than Bluder was making at Iowa. Bluder is unlikely to come out of retirement to build a WNBA team at Indiana. BTW Bluder is an Iowa native.
Coach Sides won’t last past the Olympics break! The WNBA can’t afford for Caitlin Clark not to have her Stephen Curry moments of shooting about 25 to 30 shots a game-and yes I’m talking about launching 3$-which is her money shot and what the fans wants to see out of Caitlin Clark this year! Nobody cares if the Fever has a winning record in Caitlin Clark’s rookie season. Anybody that has coached or played basketball on any meaningful level knows it take more than three practices for a team to learn each others strengths and weaknesses and where they like to receive the ball at or the floor. If I were the coach of the Indianapolis Fever I would run the Paul Westphal offense (just run and gun and try to out score the Fever’s opponents!) Then during the offseason the Fever can work on their defense- and offensive sets…But, for this year… can we please turn Caitlin Clark loose and let her run the same offense she ran at Iowa-that worked… Iowa made it to back-to-back NCAAW Championship games! Therefore, the style of basketball Caitlin Clark needs to play has been time tested and proven. And I know her teammates won’t have a problem playing the Paul Westphal style of offense because of Caitlin Clark’s passing ability they would be getting a lot of layups and wide open spot up jump shots and 3$! Enough said…Call Coach Bluder so that she can show the WNBA fans would CC can do in Paul Westphal’s Run and Gun offense! The WNBA can’t afford to mess this up because as Eminem said-in “Lose Yourself…Look (WNBA you [have] one shot or one opportunity To seize everything you ever wanted in one moment, Would you capture it or just let it slip? Yo” (credit for the Eminem reference goes to “Behind the Line” podcaster. So come on WNBA owners of the Indiana Fever get Caitlin Clark and the rest of your Indiana Fever the coach they need or else you will [lose your fan base and that of the WNBA’$] or to quote Eminem - “Lose Yourself!”
Who advocates shooting more deep 2s? Answer: No one. The modern game is all about 3s. And way more importantly, those logo threes are incredibly important for keeping eyeballs on the W.
They depended on her to distribute the ball and not commit turnovers. Failed on both fronts, 10 TOs and too few assists. Fever will not win with Boston taking 4 shots per game, does not matter how many CC takes.
If Sides doesn't win at least one of the first three games she'll be gone. Clearly she doesn't know how to handle a talent like CC. Bring in new coach (and maybe some new teammates) and build around CC.
Great observations! Lisa Bluder would be a great coach for the Fever! In Sides defense she is under a microscope and a ton of pressure! First 3 games unfortunately sre against Superteams, it will get a lot easier for the Fever after Saturday!🍀💚
Knowing how to ciach different types of players, creating chemistry, leeping players sharp and in shape, knowing how to utilize players when ccc is double or triple teamed is how good coaches woek. Bluder is awesome.
I think Bluder was seriously retiring, so doubt she would go to Fever. It is so obv ious that a few Fever players are ignoring Clark when she is open. It would be nice if they would set some screens for her!!!!!!
Some of this stuff is so silly! People have nothing more to do but create division. I love Caitlin Clark but having said that, I see nothing wrong with Ms. Clark developing her mid-range shot. It would just be one more tool in her toolbox that would make her that much harder to guard and open up more possibilities for her game.
I agree with you on this one. This does nothing for Caitlin's confidence. I don't know if she should be fired yet but the owner needs to tell her Caitlin is the reason you're flying private 🤣
She does have to take more midrange shots, it can't be all iso 3's, off ball 3's and layups. If Clark is suppose to be this unstoppable scorer she has to score at all 3 levels and score in a variety of ways. She obviously is going to have to get better to do that and coaches should look to develop and improve her skills. Coaching can't just be to give a green light for any and everyone to chuck a three whenever possible. She'll still probably take a crazy 400+ 3's this year if healthy anyway. Those "inefficient" scorers also carry outsized offensive burdens and are still some of the top non frontcourt scorers in the league. They also are top priority to guard for the opposing team; nobody lets them just shot because "hey their inefficient and my calculator says midrange isn't optimal" so just leave them open at midrange. That would be actual bad coaching. So acting like efficiency numbers are king is kinda a smart jargon way of passing dumb nonsense off as right. Efficiency doesn't equal actual impact on the game. Also analytics can never be proven "wrong" and will always rationalize backwards so scammers like morey can just blame bad luck and rng for everything. Like for example more and more nfl coaches (San Diego) go for clearly strategically stupid 4th downs, but claim that numbers support it or whatever. As if there is no psychology or emotion to sports. Like if you just look at whatever number is bigger why not have the computer itself be the coach? Thus the only issue can ever be we didn't chuck enough 3's, we took too many midrange shots, or it was actually" smart" to go for it on own 29, and you just double down.. miss 20+ 3's in a row say that's mathematically impossible and collect your paycheck anyway.
I think everyone knows that but given the 2 week off-season Clark had, and how trash the team is anyway... Let her go out and be comfortable in year 1. Design plays to help her build confidence and play her game. Allegedly these "Grown women" are supposed to be better than her IA teammates so theoretically her assists are more valuable than her points in year 1. Then in the off season, focus heavily on developing a floater and a mid range shot.
RU-vid is filled with clips like this from people, self-identified experts who don't know the game, thinking CC would take over immediately. She won't, but she will succeed. Stay tuned.
Christie Sides has been a career assistant coach, either in High School initially, then back and forth in the College and Pros, starting 2000 to 2022, before getting her first Head Coaching Job in 2023? Maybe the same could be said of Sides being a 2nd year Head Coach, maybe in over her head and unable or unwilling to utilize Clark in the best way to put the team in position for more wins? Going to put my MONEY on Bluder over Sides as the Better Coach!
It’s funny how people think CC is going to have success the same way she did in college. Ain’t happening. If you want to blame someone her name is Lisa Bluder for not teaching her how to play within an actual offense. Michael Jordan functioned well in the triangle offense and that’s where he found consistency and championships. If the Fever hire Bluder for “Iowa ball” they will loose the rest of the team. CC ain’t winning alone or as ball dominant as she was in college doesn’t matter who the coach is.
Ok couple things. I do agree that she should not have publicly did that to her player. That was a bit much, but, as her coach, has to coach Caitlin. That’s literally her job. Now if there is a special Caitlin rule where she’s untouchable and gets special treatment? Fine. I don’t think that’s best for team morale and chemistry in the long run. Either way, maybe sides isn’t the right coach for this team. But I get it money makes everything go. What I think is, Caitlin will take the challenge and improve!
One thing that has become obvious - Christie Sides does not have CC's back. In fact, just the opposite seems to be the case. When any team drafts a player that they want to build their team around, they first need to make sure that they show confidence in that player to lead the team. Sides is basically trashing Clark which shows Sides has no confidence in Clark's ability to lead. Considering how much the Fever have invested in Clark, Sides days as coach are numbered.
Kind of a funny topic after only one game lol. I doubt it. I do think Indiana should do anything and everything to put Caitlin in position to be successful. I would just be surprised if Bluder were hired to accomplish that.
13 and 27 last year and if sides stays coach it's gonna be worse. Get Bluder and should've drafted Martin but she would run and gun this team and let Caitlin cook. I've seen enough
Christie has to go ASAP! Her players are literally regressing underneath her, it’s bad. Get rid of her and bring someone else on that actually knows how to get the best out of there players. Erica Wheeler seems like a nice person but oh my goodness, she’s a ball hog and refuses to pass to anyone. She shouldn’t even have a protected contract. 😫

Caitlin Clark is a one-trick pony. She folds under focused or sustained defense. That was fine in college, but not so good in the WMBA where defensive play is the norm, not the exception.
@@back2sports I agree she has talent coming out of her ears, but the world is full of talented people who never reach their potential. She needs to be coachable and expand her game.
Y’all act like MJ started like 1998 MJ. Manning was an INT MACHINE until 2004, CC is one dimensional and needs to expand. Chill out everyone lol let’s have this convo in 3yrs.
Putting aside the fact that Indiana doesn’t have a lot of talent, Sides needs to step up her coaching game. It looked like chaos out there for the first two games. I think she needs to watch the Nuggets play. She needs to run a two man game with Boston and Clark. She’s got another great 3 point shooter in Katie Lou Samuelson who can kill double teams on Caitlin. I know, of course, that they haven’t had much time to get their act together, but how about using modern sets? At least put all the players beyond the three point line like modern NBA sets.
It's true!! Coach Sides is trying to knock off CC's bad habits, like averaging 30 pts per game, 7-10 assist's per game. I think Coach Sides has done one hell a va job! Congrats Coach Sides, and the rest of the team for getting CC to knuckle under! 🤨😡 I mean, Afterall, it's better to score 20 and get hammered on the inside with no assistance, than 30 outside shots. SHE NEEDS TO FIGHT NOT SULK!!! SHE MUST STOP STANDING IF THE BALL NOT IN HER HANDS. THE EASIEST PERSON TO GUARD IS A 3 POINT SHOOTER… THATS WHY STEPH CURRY DEVELOPED HIS FLOATER WITH BOTH HANDS
Christie Sides protecting Caitlyn from herself. Babying stars like James Harden in Houston is why some teammates hated playing with him, same with Kawhi Leonard with Clippers. Darvin Ham would not critique Lebron James and still got fired. Sides has a pulse on what players think of Clarke and trying to keep her grounded in order for that team to stay connected. Sides needs to make better in-game adjustments. The team looks elementary and that will get her fired. Critiquing a rookie making rookie mistakes, after a couple games is not the issue. Guards playing her tough just like Raven Johnson. Turnovers were a factor in the championship and a factor today.
It is the beginning of a new season with a new mix of talented players. So far the ball has not had good movement to all the players. I would expect the team to jell and all the players to add to the synergy so they could be a fast paced high scoring swarming defense up and coming contender for many years to come. It has to take some time but if they get into the playoffs they should be gelling and may look completely different as a team.
probably a nice idea to get the long 2s first to get the rhythm then make 3s after. don't see any problem with that. the team is just too small and lack of rebounding skills.
