Good job Shane. Definitely easier with a lift to support the ramshaft. I shall do it that way if there is a next time. Good tip from Ollek too. My lube pipe fell off three times!

Yeah, most definitely. Holding up the arms up too was the key. Installation was WAY more easy that I expected. The last time I did it I knocked that dang lube pipe out SOOO many times.

Hi Shane, great video, lots of valuable information, I'm pleased my mud guards arn't on.😁

Yeah, those mud guards are annoying. Bending myself into a pretzel isn't fun. 🤣😂

Shane has anyone told you that you have a mouse on your shirt 👕 🤔 lol. Very good video you do take great time to show and explain everything that's going on and it's nice you make mistakes on purpose then explain or show the corrections 😆

Ha! Sure looks that way! They're actually called "dead-cat" windscreens, lol. Oh, no, the mistakes are very, very real... Just think of the stuff I don't show! I had to scrub through 2+ hours of footage to get the 37 minutes of this one. Maybe a bloopers video one day...

Either way you do show outstanding videos and excellent tutorials spot on and as Barry will tell you I read other people's comments it's interesting to see how others tackle the same tasks in different ways as I say every day is a school day how did we ever manage before you tube and good old technology 😀

Good vid Shane The manual says ram shaft torque are as you said. I would think it will refer to both sides as the bolts are the same, as you did. Just about where you are but going about it in a diferent way. Have the right ram shaft bracket and valve chest in place and putting the ram shaft in later. Not been doing much on the tractor. Snowing and cold here. Might get back to it tomorrow. M😀

Weather is starting to get really nice here. Spring time has come! We do expect another cold snap though. I did the process of first putting in the right hand bracket first, then putting the shaft in the first time I did this. was a bit difficult to man-handle in the hole and had to beat on end of shaft to get it to go. I should have tried to do it like that with the hoist just to see, but I didn't think about it.

@@path.of.discovery Going to give it a go with my Polaris Ranger winch. Have not torque any bolts yet and it will be coming out again so I can get ram out. Let you know how I get on M 😀

Good video Shane, I found with my 880 a local company MSP seals in greenfield IN. I take the O-ring and part, if possible, they measure them accurately at least the ID and OD the thickness not so much 50 years of compression has an effect, so I get the one above and below as far as thickness that works well and there not that expensive. It is much easier without mud guards or PTO housing on tractor good luck.
@path.of.discovery
@path.of.discovery Год назад
Similarly, I've started ordering the sizes above and below in thickness, just in case. I'm starting to have quite the collection of o-rings! Thanks for the comment, and thanks for watching!

Very nice upload and stuff of nightmares and not for the faint hearted as I’ve been through this myself, that was because l had to replace the plastic selector that the previous owner had ruined, anyway, l did exactly the same as you did in the video, then we have a lovely working as it should David brown 990🙂

Thanks for watching and commenting! Yes, I agree it's not for the faint of heart. Being methodical with a good plan and a good service manual is key. I'm about to go through the adjustments and get this old beast back to work again!

Hi Shane, my DB880 has a hard time to keep hydraulic arms up. They stay up if there's no weight on them. I know there's a leak somewhere. When stored for a few days, arms are going down a bit. I will start from the cylinder knowing that the pump is probably not involved in this. Where do you think I should look next if cylinder and it's gasket are doing the job ?

Well, I'd start by inspecting the Bypass and Hold valves for dirt. They're the easiest thing to check. I've got a video that goes through the valve chest, and the Bypass and Hold vavles are the ones accessible from the top of the axle. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fY5Tix1lp6I.html Get yourself a good service manual. Both of the ones I reference in the "How to find help for your David Brown Tractor" video have a troubleshooting workflow. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5nYhhXXpGFw.html Hope this helps and thanks for watching!

Finding it very hard to loosen hold valve nut

@path.of.discovery Год назад
The hold and bypass valve plugs can be difficult. I definitely experienced that. I've got a section in the Valve Chest removal video that goes over the advice I got several years ago from Db2d on the David Brown Tractor Forum about using a Drag Link Socket to loosen the plugs. This link should get you right to the correct timestamp in that video. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hD7_EOgiPLE.html I also cover more on the Valve Chest itself here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fY5Tix1lp6I.html Hope this helps!

Unfortunately English is the only spoken language I know. RU-vid should do automatic subtitle translations into Arabic though. I was able to get it to show me the auto-generated Arabic subtitles for this video. I don't know how accurate it is, but hopefully it helps some. Thanks for watching and for the comment!

Sorry to say, Ollek passed away last month. His expertise and help will be sorely missed. DB forum will never be the same. Well, it's gone south anyway after the recent hack (...)
@path.of.discovery
@path.of.discovery Год назад
Ollek's advice and expertise will definitely be missed for sure. One of the coolest things happened to me a few weeks before his passing. For the Group 3 Adjustments video I did, I'd emailed db2d from the forums to help review it before it went live because I didn't want to be spreading false information on such an important topic. A little while later I got an email from Ollek himself, and he had reviewed it too! I was so honored to have him look over the video I'd done on his instructions for doing the Group 3 Adjustments and get his approval on what I'd done. The work he did to inform and educate on these grand old tractors is a treasure.

@@path.of.discovery Yes, he was a wealth of knowledge, he did find the exact version, date of manufacture of my 1694, cleared my doubts on exact model, engine, transmission etc just from serial number. Problem is that topic disappeared along with many others, my account is gone, can't log-in, admin communication disabled. Any ideas? Assume you still can log-in, since my registration was some two years old only and probably affected by the site incident. Hope will come along. Have a good day.

@@nikspanakis Yes, my account was fine on the forum, I'd had it for many years. The good news is the forum is back up and running and people are able to create accounts again. Unfortunately all accounts and posts/comments made since March 2018 are gone. However, you can re-register now, and hopefully you could re-register the same username you had previously. Scott the admin has to approve them once you submit for an account, but it looks like he's actively getting people back in. Several folks have been able to get back in that used to be good posters/commenters. I'm hoping traffic will pick up there, and in my videos here, I'm subtly trying to push folks over there. We'll see I guess, but realistically, the forum may be on borrowed time now.
