One important thing here is that you raise your voices to @LumixUSA about getting these updates pushed into the camera because they largely just follow the feedback from the users. If everyone just sits quietly for these updates, they may never come, even if they are possible. Everyone is very quick to say, just get the G9m2, upgrade to full frame or wait for the GH7 but the reality is, if no one is supporting this camera there might not ever be a next one.

That is totally true, usually @lumix is one of the brands that listens the most to the needs of its users, and with the best history of updating its brands. And although the GH6 is a magnificent camera, there is plenty of room to improve some things that are software based. Lut monitor, internal proxies, even the vertical video gallery view would be some curious improvements possible to make via software.

I think some of the more important updates for GH6 went unmentioned in the change log, like the banding issue and lag times. These issues still exist but were greatly mitigated. The banding only seems to be an issue for vlog in very extreme dynamic range scenes now. The record button lag is down to about a second where it would sometimes be about 3 seconds. I'd love to see the real time lut, leica monochrome, proxy recording, improved e-stabilization, and live view composite in future firmware updates.

I think a lot of those changes just fall under 'bug fixes' in the changelog, often to avoid admitting there was ever an issue in the first place 🙂 Those would all be great additions to the camera 🤞 they introduce some of them.

@bedenegative6450 They do, but the Lumix cameras have tons of additional features including IBIS, fully articulating screen and continuous AF and for a start. It's a hybrid camera so has a ton of photography features as well.

The only thing the GH6 needs is a substantial hardware upgrade. The GH7 please.

I think the hardware is still the most capable part of the GH6. The ability to use CF Express type B cards, sync port, tally lamps, superior rear screen design. But I get that it needs a new sensor for PDAF and would need a smaller fan design for the improved IBIS. Neither of those are really a requirement for me.

@@stevelitton Then you should be glad Panasonic does not seem to be in a hurry to update the GH6. Then again I can't see the current GH6 being a hot seller in todays market. In fact I think it never was. Thus it will carry on until stock has been sufficiently depleted, maybe even had 2nd production run so management will look not to bad. Apparently Lumix S is all the fuzz now, the only cameras that have increased the Panasonic market share from 1 to 1,1 per cent. 😛

@@GrenlandUnderVann Yeah it's just those little additional features that would be nice to have. They seem to have been quite biased with features in the MFT lineup. The G9m2 received all the video features but the GH6 got very few of the photography features. I'm not interested in ever going back to full frame and am very happy with my GH5 and GH6 for the work I do. I will get the next iteration of the GH line camera if it ever comes and is a significant upgrade but I am not expecting to see it for a long while. That will likely be the last standalone camera I ever buy. To my mind, Lumix's issue is that they have always appeared to be very corporate and stuffy and now they are trying to shake that off by using influencers to promote the cameras. The trouble is that their unlying methodologies of how technology should work are very outdated. You only have to look at the S9 to see that. Its ethos is all based on removing the effort from posting to social channels. In which case you may as well just use a phone because the final deliverable quality is going to be so low that no one would be able to tell it was shot on a camera anyway. Sure you can achieve a lovely natural shallow depth of field due to the fact it's full-frame but then you need a bigger lens and you may as well just get the S5m2 or S5m2X.

@@stevelitton It's hard to see why the S9 would be preferable to most over a Samsung S24 Ultra or iPhone 15 Pro Max. I would argue that even the DJI Pocket3 is more fun and easier to use (supports two wireless mics without any extra receiver hardware). You could even get an additional DJI MIni4 Pro drone and basically pay the same as the S9 with a decent lens. All for some FF craze.

@@GrenlandUnderVann Yeah it makes no sense to me, but I am clearly not the market they are targeting 🙂 I think ultimately it's really just to get a wider audience on board with the L Mount system at the end of the day.
