Will there be a Godfather Part IV? - Explained 

Would rather see a movie about how Vito and the family progress during the 1920s-40s, and the "Olive Oil Wars."

*In my mind there is only 1 film known as The Godfather (Parts I and II) and an epilogue or ‘coda’ The Death of Michael Corleone* -Francis Ford Coppola

If they could do it right, I'd like to see Michael's character during his time in the service. His wartime experiences could reveal layers into his character.

I read Ed Falco's The Family Corleone, enjoyed it very much and I agree it would translate well to the screen. My question/comment is that both The Godfather 1 and 2 left out a lot of details and character development due obviously to time constraints. For example, there was much more to Sonny, Fredo and Luca Brasi than we saw in the movie. I know it just wasn't feasible in the 1970's but here in 2024 doesn't it make more sense to make The Family Corleone, or a Godfather IV, into a series like Boardwalk Empire? There would be virtually no time constraints like a cinema would have. I'm curious to hear other's opinions.

I also love the book, the family Corleone, one of my most favorite books to read… sometimes when I’m driving, I’ll listen to it on audible. Bobby Cannavale does a ridiculously great job turn the voice performance for all the characters he really sets the tone.

The fourth installment is already out. Thanks to Audible. And according to the story, I think it would be awesome. Vincent, handing down the reins of succession during a war with the Russian mafia. That’s another Oscar waiting to happen. I say they should do it.

The perfect time for Godfather 4 was 25 years ago when the Sopranos was hot. It couldve set things up for two more sequels mirroring when John Gotti was popular in the 80's.

I thought we all agreed that the Godfather Part III doesn’t really exist. Let’s keep it that way.

I have the Family Corleone. it's a fantastic read. Ed Falco(uncle of Edie Falco aka Carmella Soprano) does a superb job. it expands on the disturbing backstory of Luca Brasi. Which makes me wonder about Vito sending him to Sollozzo and the Tattaglias. Perhaps Vito finally had a conscience about keeping Brasi. And saw an opportunity to offload that weight.

The Actor’s name is Oscar Isaac. This literally happened to me on my last interview, was explaining the same story and forgot his name too. He is such a brilliant actor, hope to see the Godfather universe keep expanding. Keep up the great work 👍

GF #1 was an original cinematic statement. #2 had a nearly equal feel. #3 which I saw strained credulity. #4 would need to have the same core feel to be as good as #1.

Ed Falco’s book Family Corleone was a fantastic read and really bridged the years from a young Vito to Vito rising to power pre Godfather One.

I liked "The Godfather Part III", but really it should have been a "Part IV" to a "Part III" we should have gotten in the late 70s or early 80s, but didn't.

There is a Godfather Part IV. It's called Ocean's 11. Terry Benedict is latter-day Vincent Corleone.

Francis Ford Coppola has been wanting to make a GodFather Part IV since 2004, with Leonardo DiCaprio as the New Don Corleone!. with Andy Garcia reprising his Role, no longer as Vincent Mancini but as Vincent Corleone as The New Godfather!! So how does Leonardo DiCaprio fit in as The New Don, if Andy Garcia is the existing Don? We will just have to wait how it all plays out. Let's see if it is going to happen or not!?. I met Ed Falco at a book signing in Manhattan Beach for The Family Corleone novel and he is a first-class gentleman! I highly recommend his prequel to The Godfather! It's a very interesting and entertaining read! It gives the reader and fans plenty of insight into the early days of the Corleone Family. As a Godfather aficionado, I would love to this novel made into a film IF the production, casting, and directing were done correctly. It would also be very important to keep the dialog, acting, and storyline authentic and NOT politically correct!

Do you think if they would’ve made the Godfather III in 1976 which would start in the year 1959 & ending either in the 1960s or in 1976. I wonder if that could’ve been a good movie.

I´d love seeing Vincenzo played by Andy Garcia as the Don... He´s the synthesis of all the Dons... and lacks a Consiglieri as good as Tom (I bet Louie Pennino or Al Neri would get that position, being his closest men and Capos). Otherwise, I don´t know who that might be. The movie is supposed to show the complete downfall of the Corleone Family under Vincenzo´s leadership, after he brings it once again to the full-blown underworld dealing massive amounts of drugs, and starts getting chased by the DEA and the Army together in the bloodiest drug war ever in the same way Don Pablo "El Patrón" Escobar Gaviria got killed by Colombian Army´s "El Bloque" with the help of the CIA, the DEA and the "Pepes" (Paramilitary Colombian personnel against Pablo Escobar). That´d be awesome and worth to hit the movie theater after seeing "Joker" 5 years ago.

I have both read & listened to the Family Corleone. If done right it would be a Fantastic movie or an even better show. The are so many different Characters like for instance all the Irish people even Sonny's best friend was an Irish boy. We'd see the back story of Luca Brasi Sunny in his youth and his coming up. Frankie 5 angles & Clemenza working together and the best part THE OLIVE OIL WAR!!! So much there I get excited thinking about it.

No, becuase Coppolla said he wouldn't develop oneIV without Puzo. So if IV was developed without Puzo (or Coppolla) it would be diabolical. Coppolla said the story was over.

Part 3 wasn't actually a bad movie in itself... just it paled in comparison to the previous 2 films. In any case, a Part 4? I certainly hope not, especially with all this "woke" movement co-opting good IP.

Naw. Hell no. They BETTER NOT!! We the real fans will boycott. Leave this masterpiece Trilogy alone. Some people felt a way about part 3. Part 3 in my humble opinion was not that bad, it wasn't horrible. It did expose certain connections and dig deeper into the financial aspects and things like that, so it wasn't terrible. But it just needs to be left alone. A lot of these remakes they are doing now are just not good. Please, for the LOVE OF GOD, leave our classics , alone!

after don vito's grandson and santino's illegitimate son, vincent (andy garcia) becomes godfather the movie abruptly ended there had to be a sequel so many unresolved issues left in the plot, no climax but mario puzo is no more, really wanted to see how vincent fared as godfather aa' respect vincent for all the murders he committed and the way he committed them, enemies of the family put to sleep he was santino's biological child but not through his spouse great man, even greater killer

In case anyone is asking and I know that you are not, I will give you my opinion anyway. There shouldn't have even been a Godfather III. Godfather I and Godfather II were CINEMATIC MASTERPIECES. Suffice it to say that Godfather II is the ONLY movie in cinema history to win Best Picture following Godfather I winning Best Picture. In addition, Godfather II was probably better (in my opinion) than Godfather I if that is even possible. Godfather III was nominated for Best Picture and was a good movie because it was associated with I & II. It is probably the best thing that I can say about Godfather III. You CANNOT follow up the Mona Lisa and the Sistine Chapel. My apologies to anyone that disagrees.

I love Puzo's original conception of Part 2, before he had to give way to the FFC bandwagon.

A Godfather prequel might be very interesting and entertaining. I don't think there's any point in making another sequel. The Godfather 3 was the finale of the Corleone family and Michael Corleone in particular. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would rate both The Godfather 1 and 2 a perfect 10. I would rate The Godfather 3 a 7 out of 10. Part 3 wasn't bad but no comparison to the first two. I doubt if a Godfather Part 4 would have much in the way of new information to add to the story.

The third one was not nearly as good as the other two.End it with the last.The ad nauseum sequels ruined the Terminator franchise and many others.

it would be a prequel. Family Corleone takes place before the events of the first movie. i hope Hollywood leaves the franchise alone.. why mess with it, you know it'll be horrible. I read most of the newer novels, even the Mark Winegardner ones. They're interesting (out of all the non mario puzo books, The Family Corleone by far is the best one out of the bunch.. but as far as bringing back old movie franchises 9 times out of 10 its just bad

I dont see any way to a Godfather IV. Parts I & II stand alone And together. Part III, although a decent movie, to me is "Cousin of Godfather" and a Part IV imo would be seen as a Band-Aid for Part III.. Too Little Too Late.

As far as I am concerned, the Godfather film series ended when the end credits rolled on Godfather 2. It closed out perfectly. Anything else is just a whorelike money grab from paramount. It could have ended after the first it so wanted. The first one showed Michael coming of age. The second showed the sacrafices made to trying to convert it into legitimate business machine.

There will be no Godfather IV..Ed Falco knows the deal.

The novel was amazing, but I'd rather not see it turned into a screenplay. Reason being, because we all know that Hollywood would absolutely butcher it with wokeness and PC culture

Godfather I and II were masterpieces and represent the Godfather brand. I don’t even recognize Godfather III because it was such a disaster and failure. I hope Hollywood greed doesn’t surface again to produce additional Godfather films. These additional films just tarnish the Godfather brand. Let it go.

GF4 would be nice if it was about the ‘olive oil wars’ involving Vito in his younger years, I don’t care for Vincent, forgettable character. But realistically, leave the franchise alone, Puzo died years ago, and so did the story with him. Coppola was a fine director, but the Godfather was Puzo’s creation.

It'd be like the new Star Wars movies. I'd go and see it, It'd be all new characters with maybe a few old ones, written and directed by new people. It would be ok but never measure up to the originals and the vast majority of people would be disappointed. Please don't make a new one.
