Plasma table tip- Cut the holes out first, then cut the profile out. This will make sure the holes are in the right position, as the cutout can possibly move before the holes are cut.

Paul, you and Ben remind me of the days I ran a lawn equipment repair shop. Parts weren't always available so fabrication was the game. You and Ben don't tell each other it won't work which I had to endure from fellow workers. The secret when not sure about what might or might not work is to let on that you know what you are doing. It surprised everyone even me at times when it worked.

10+ year CNC Laser operator here.... you should always cut your internal profiles first (bolt holes and speed holes) then the outer profile, Because of work holding, being that your holding the whole sheet and not the small parts individually, that way it doesn't move while the small pieces are being cut and give you complete inaccuracy. In fact, I bet that's why the bolt holes didn't line up or even simply drop out the slugs, because the work piece moved while cutting and it didn't complete the cut.... and a bad, fouled up tip wouldn't help any here either

Paul - Years ago I chased overheating troubles in my FJ with a 350 chevy conversion for months. There was no one fix, but the biggest help was isolating the front of the radiator to the grill. Hot air was circulating around the sides and back through the radiator due to that small engine compartment. Good luck!

Just a thought on the aluminum hydraulic tank mounting. I have seen fuel tanks on fire truck mounted between the frame rails crack, because of the frame flexing, and the tank not. You may want to mount the tank on rubber mounts to avoid cracking the tank. Second thought, why not use a VIA air compressor? They have 100% duty cycle pumps that put out a fair amount of air, with out compressor oil. Love the videos.

Quick tech tip about your plasma, always cut the holes and/or small stuff out of the part first. Leave the main cut away from the larger piece for last to help keep everything in place better. Also, cut the holes slightly small and open up with a drill for a better/rounder hole.

Switcher combobulator, I love it Ben! :-) I used to confound coworkers with "that chingaletta thing" over there. I love watching you guys fab stuff up, but I think sometimes you should do as a Captain of one of the ships I was stationed on used to say to his supervisors, "time spent planning an event is time well spent". He explained to me one day what he meant by that; put your feet up and use the thinking part of your noggin to visualize it before putting it into action. That was in 1975 and I have never forgotten it and I try to always apply that concept when I am getting ready to do something, especially if it is something new to me. So when Michelle catches y'all with ya feet up, just tell her " time spent planning an event is time well spent". I hope you never break or throw a belt on that rig. Knowing my luck, it would be the one that required removing all of the others to change the thrown belt. Keep on giving us this great entertainment please, we love it!!!

I noticed when you cut that part out on the plasma table you cut the outside first and then the inside holes. Its much better to make the cuts inside the part first and then cut the outside of the part. That way it's less likely that the part will move while doing the inside cuts and it will be more accurate.

Hey Paul, about the plasma cutting table. it's not that your plasma tip is smoked, you have to tell the machine where it should start the plasma, and you need to tell it to start when it's inside the circle, then move out to the line, and cut it out. That way, the plasma flare at the beginning doesn't mess up the finished piece, it just messes up the part that's being cut out. Hope that helps

Overheating? I mentioned in the video when you were fabricating the exhaust. Running the exhaust in front of the oil pan could overheat the oil which would make the engine run hotter. You might have a problem with how you set up the York air compressor. It is not commonly known, but you aren't supposed to run an accessory off of the water pump pulley alone - you have to run the belt so that it loops around the crankshaft pulley also, so that the crank is the primary source of power. Otherwise, the belt will just slip. This is particularly true when trying to use it for something that draws a lot of power, like a compressor or alternator.

Of course this several times over the years & you end up with 3+ sets of various tools, then you have to get bigger cabinets & eventually a larger shop, it's a vicious cycle I tell ya. Compressors require a huge amount of electricity. There's plenty of 12v compressors available and do a good job but none of them perform even close to a York compressor. I have a Puma 12v that pulls around 60 amps and can barely run air tools. I also have a Geo Metro AC compressor converted to air and it moves about three or four times the air the Puma does. As for an electric A/C compressor, there's not really anything available for exactly the same reason. There are some on hybrid and electric vehicles but they operate using the high voltage batteries do reduce the amount current needed. A 12v A/C compressor would require easily 120 amps continuously to work.

I have used this method for "tracing" a pattern when it's out in the open like the end of the head. Use a piece of paper and a lumber crayon, and rub the crayon lightly over the detail you want, it works amazingly well. You get a sharp clear image with little distortion.

I've ran an industrial laser and cut material from 3/8ths down to 20 gauge, start with the small holes first when using a robotic cutter. It reduces the chances of the part shifting causing the holes be out of spec.

Those york compressors shake like the devil. They are robust but use as many bolts as available-bonus you can use the opposite plane as another mount.

Love the banter in this shop. It’s taken another turn with the Hunter cam stirring them up. 😂😉🤭🤔

26:19 Paul has the vice grips on upside down, that's why it slipped out. If you put them the other way the rotational force tends to make it grip MORE, rather than loosening.. Same as trying to use a pipe wrench upside down.

Just use the electric fan on the radiator. No need for 2 fans. Also on the FJ are your blades configured to pull or push the air through the radiator. Might can just reverse the polarity and pull through the raditor.

About the FJ, usually the air goes out the bottom. Is that all blocked up? And what was the results of your test run?

So long as he doesn't start going, "OK BOOMER"! You really do need to teach hunter what REAL music is though. I love how you show just how difficult real fabrication work is. Not everything comes in a kit that fits together. Oh well, it's coming together nicely. Youll be going after that 2ed place trophy before you know it. :D Love you guys, God Bless you all.

Hey Paul! Love the videos. Just a little tip with the plasma cutter. Try cutting the holes before doing the outline, otherwise the piece might move while it's doing the holes. Love watching you guys work, I've learned a lot!

Easiest way to tighten top compressor is slots in bracket and a tightening screw.
