As a teenager I spent countless hours on my dad's Massey Harris 44 diesel. I plowed, subsoiled and pulled a disc harrow with it in addition to using it to snake timber out of the woods for dad's sawmill customers. That 44 D was used to pull the sawmill too. Very strong tractor and never gave us a minute's trouble. It's only quirk was that no matter what time of year it was, whether it was below freezing or over 100* it would not start the first time of the day without a snort of ether/startdammit/Cosby sauce. After the first start it would crank easily for the rest of the day.
i enjoyed this video. i bet that you can straighten those push rods. others have. our neighboring farm had on of those mh. we got our 1954 olds stuck and my father borrowed the massey harris. the neighbor was sick in bed, dying i guess, but he told my father to go ahead without him. i drove the olds, my father the tractor, and we were out of trouble. my father really jerked the clutch. being a john deere man, operating the clutch by foot was the problem. we borrowed the tractor once again from the widow. a certain uncle had to drive it because of the foot clutch, but said it was a darn good tractor with lots of power. too bad none of us were willing to learn to drive with a foot clutch. those people, my people, were really set in their ways. nothing was gray. either black or white. thank you for saving these wonderful old tractors. best wishes from ball-acre farm.
@@russwabuda1556 I'm gonna use the push rods to make some sort of a metal working artwork. I usually do that. I may have to bed the pushrods back since we can't find them.
I enjoyed this video. I grew up in the 1950s and 1960s in New Jersey working on my uncle's farm which, unfortunately, is now all houses. my uncle had two row crop 44s, a 1950 and a 1951. I spent many an hour on them.
I see this all the time. I've been restoring old tractors for over 50 years. The first thing I do is pull the valve cover and check for stuck valves! If it's a flat head, pull the side cover. I never try to turn one over before I check the valves!
@@ThreeGenerationsRestoration They sold for about $2000 brand new back then and lasted the farmer's lifetime. In 1951 the average family income was about $20-$22,000. So the rig was very affordable and a good investment. They still sell for about $2000 in running condiition😀. Great old iron those Masseys.

Fantastic video, great to see another tractor rescued from the scrap heap. What is the plan with this 44 Special? I've only just got into old tractors in the last year or so and now the bug has well and truly bit. I have gone back watched a lot of your older videos. Keep making them and I'll gladly keep watching, this is great stuff! My favourite tractor channel so far, maybe even more than Farmall Fanatic?
hey guys. i have one way of releasing a clutch that has never failed me. release the clutch and keep it released, ie. tie or block the pedal down. find access to the clutch however, from the top, bottom or side. spray, make wet and soak the clutch with rubbing alcohol. wait a few minutes, apply a load and it will come loose. there will be no damage, not even a chatter. this is for a clutch that is stuck by disuse but otherwise ok. good luck.
O sub to you thaks for showing me this .Just me but lm going back to old school way. Of equipment. Hell of alot cheaper and they ran far better. In my opinion. My grandfather and my father as l remember had very little trouble with theis machine's . I'II be looking for you evey day Thats again. By the way what state you in you ever sell l will buy. the valves are set at O14 the intake and the exhaust and the sparkplugs are set O25 😊😊 the tractor 🚜 😊 sounds and runs good how did the sparkplugs look was they clean 😊😊 OMG 7 19 2O24
The pushrods because of the stuck valves. The auctioneer company said they started the tractor and ran it on one cylinder. They did more harm then good.
@@ThreeGenerationsRestoration yep I know sooner made a comment and finally saw in the video that you guys discovered that wish I had a way to send you guys a picture we just got a barn find of a 44 standard that's in original condition with possibly original tires on the back of it
