Currently we must have an exact match to receive an organ from a donor, especially kidneys, but that may no longer be an issue.

New Procedure Allows Kidney Transplants From Any Donor
www.nytimes.com/2016/03/10/hea...
“In the anguishing wait for a new kidney, tens of thousands of patients on waiting lists may never find a match because their immune systems will reject almost any transplanted organ. Now, in a large national study that experts are calling revolutionary, researchers have found a way to get them the desperately needed procedure.”
Survival Benefit with Kidney Transplants from HLA-Incompatible Live Donors
www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/...
“Recipients of kidney transplants from incompatible live donors had a higher survival rate than either control group at 1 year (95.0%, vs. 94.0% for the waiting-list-or-transplant control group and 89.6% for the waiting-list-only control group)[...]”
Transplant rejection
www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/e...
“When a person receives an organ from someone else during transplant surgery, that person's immune system may recognize that it is foreign. This is because the person's immune system detects that the antigens on the cells of the organ are different or not "matched." Mismatched organs, or organs that are not matched closely enough, can trigger a blood transfusion reaction or transplant rejection.”

It is unfortunate and highly inconvenient that people cannot simply be able to accept organs and other body parts from anyone. It would be most convenient if an individual could accept any organ from a member of the same species. This desensitization method sounds like an amazing thing that could open up more people being able to get organs sooner.
@XxAPartofMexX
@XxAPartofMexX 8 лет назад
+Gabe Lee Really though, the ultimate solution would be lab grown body parts completely made from the cells of the recipient.
@Gears_Starting
@Gears_Starting 8 лет назад
The Vicatorian That sounds like it could be a good idea as well. That would certainly solve the problem for compatibility completely and allow for direct replacement. However, I wonder how much time, as well as resources, would that require to grow organs for specific individuals.

The Vicatorian Hopefully that will one day be the case. For now we can only hope that would be the case as time passes and that method becomes practiced and advanced enough to do so. I wonder how "not long at all" would actually in that method's finished state. For now though, it seems like desensitization is the best bet.

3D printing takes time. A transplant from a donor can go almost straight to surgery once a proper donor is found. When it comes to organ transplants, time is usually the deciding factor. We can't reliably perform either of these surgeries with zero risk, so neither preference is truly right or wrong at the moment.

As a dialysis patient for about 17 years now, this is a blessing. It's really hard to find a perfect match. And if I want a kidney patient, I would be more than willing to donate a kidney or even part of my liver to ANYONE. No one should have to suffer on dialysis. It's annoying, can be painful, and makes you weak and can cause even more health problems.

I received a kidney on March 25, 2015. A brother of mine that served with me in the 3rd Ranger Battalion donated one of his kidneys so that I could get moved to the top of the list. All I can say is that there is no way to pay him back other than leading my life the way he asked me to so I am. I have seen a different way where they remove every single cell from an organ except for the connecting cells and then inject cells from the recipient into the organ which will work, plus the recipient doesn't have to take meds.

FrozenEternity I just wonder if maybe the treatment would make the body less likely to attack the donor organ, but more likely to attack the other organs. Maybe cause an autoimmune condition where there was none before.

As someone who has been on dialysis for 10+ years now, I can say I would like if this actually became widely used. I have O+ blood, have anti-bodies in my system from my last rejected kidney and am an even harder match than I was when I was 17 and had my first transplant. But even if this does work, it's still in the experimental stages from what the video seems to be saying and probably isn't really that widespread around the world. I'll have to talk to the University of Iowa about it, but they haven't brought it up to me, so I'd imagine they have not adopted it yet.

A person who is declared "brain dead" is given a drug to paralyze them for the harvesting(because the body convulses) but no anesthesia (it's considered a waste of drugs). The persons heart rate and blood pressure increase tremendously as the organs are being harvested. If the brain is truly "dead" then the body would not get any pain signals to react the way it does. There is another youtuber "ANON Z"who posted a video about the laws and harvesting procedures. @

+Dolan I think it's perfectly acceptable for a person to hold onto their body parts in case someone they care about needs one. It's still their body and body parts. I personally don't care who gets my stuff as long as the parts fit and I didn't have any diseases.

Dolan I'm sorry but so long as I'm alive and kicking my organs are MINE and nobody elses.. I'll give a kidney to a loved one, but hell no to a stranger. When I'm dead anyone can have my organs (I indicated on my license hospitals can take my organs if I'm dead). The question in the video wasn't if you'd give your organs when you're dead, it was if you'd give ONE of your kidneys to a stranger (you only need 1 kidney to live). I answered no I would not give a kidney to a stranger (while I'm alive), but I would to my family or closest friends. If I'm dead however they can take whatever goddamn organs they want, what do I care, I'll be dead... they can dance on my corpse for all i care.

There once was a tv show where people would race across the US to get an organ located in another state

Can't remember where, but I already saw a video about a technique wich removed all the blood and other things from organs and turned them white and then you could insert everything from the recipient and then transplant it with no consequences, again don't remember where but I'm pretty sure that's a better way to do it than this one

John Adams if you donate a kidney you’re put on the top of the waiting list for a new kidney.

does desensitization affect a persons ability to fight off diseases since their antibodies are "desensitized"?

The Donor's family should receive $ for the organs . Not just the hospital. At least pay for the funeral. That family built and nurtured those organs through the ups and downs.
