I have a Yashica Minister II which I was given ages ago by an ex-friend (long story) who said "can you fix it?" I never did have the time, and now, years later, after long since having abandoned my old film Canons for digital cameras -- and with a partner whose child is into photography -- I looked at resurrecting the old film cameras. And I found the Yashica Minister II. (Mine does not say M-II; all I could tell was that it was a "Yashica Minister", and further digging identified it as being the II...) The viewfinder window is quite hazy, and it's possible the lens is smudged -- a lens cleaner doesn't seem to have done much for it -- so maybe it's a waste of time, but I'm going to take it out on the weekend and run a roll of film through it. After years of digital, it's kinda interesting to take photos that can't immediately be inspected for quality. I'm ... excited! Looking forward to playing with my Canon SLRs too! (FWIW: I have no idea what the problem was with this camera that required fixing originally -- but if it doesn't work, I'm quite tempted to pick up another one on eBay or similar!)
Ah that’s Awesome absolutely get out there and shoot with them. totally agree about the fun and interest side of film. It’s a totally different experience. The nice thing about these older camera is a lot of them are mechanical and can be repaired easily which can’t be said for newer ones. When we looked at this one we worked out that as long as the film advance lever worked and the shutter opened the aperture leaf then the camera would work cos there’s no batteries needed or anything like that. You might also be able to work out what’s wrong and buy another one that’s broken in a different way and swap parts which is cool. Hopefully you get it working 🤙👌
Nice video showing the minister ii. I have a minister iii that I found in an antique shop last week. I walked by the camera and something said to me “go back and look at it again”. I then came out with it after falling in love with the design and feel of it. since then I’ve cleaned it all up and repaired the sticky shutter that I didn’t realise until closer Inspection, cosmetically it’s in unreal condition looks almost unused. I have some film on its way….Must say I’m excited to get out shooting with it, I’ve added a red shutter button and red strap and it looks so cool ! She’s a beauty.
Ah that class, yeah totally agree it s beautiful camera, it feels sturdy and heavy. That a great idea upgrading the button, I want to take mine a part and clean it all up and brush the metal back. Great fun camera to use. Let me know how the film shots go. be keen to see how other set on with the camera
@@DillonOsborne yea totally, once I’ve used this film and get it developed I will let you know how they turn out. I’ve trusted the selenium light meter to see if it actually works as it should, it does seem to work well so hopefully it’s all good . If they come out underexposed I will use an app or light meter before shooting but I would much prefer to use the cameras metering, yeah the design is so cool, noticed a lot of people while I was out looking at it around my neck … they do looks cool 👌🏼
Am I losing my mind or does it actually almost make the photos look dated? Absolutely no interest in getting all technical about the age of the boats or whatever to burst my bubble but the photos themselves look like they could have been taken in the 60’s? It’s like a little time machine vibe 📷 - really interesting , thanks for sharing! 👏👏
oh yeah absolutely does. It the combo of the camera and that film. Kodak Colour 200 has a particular look. I was hoping for it to be a little sunnier because the film works real nice and gives warm tones, but I think in the overcast settings it's quite subdued and flat which makes it feel old.
Great video mate, so glad I watched the whole thing now 👌🏻. Great looking camera and I loved the “cock-ups” with film. I don’t mean in a nasty way but it just shows that we’re all human 😂😂
Hahaha thanks dude yeah there were a lot of cockups tbf haha I have definitely become very used to the instant review on digital but also the ability to change in post. Film is humbling and a bit of a reality check. Thanks for taking the time to watch it all man 🙏👌
But when are you going to shot with that Ansco? But do the whole vlog in b&w, and all fast like a Charlie Chapman flik, and one of those weird 1920s voices.
