They need to understand what that means first. Here's something that should clear up a major misconception: It is the workers organized, like the unions, who will end up with that ownership and not the political state. Workers already know their jobs from planning to production. Politicians do not. Socialist politicians can change the property relations in the same way slaveholders lost their property rights to slaves.
Unions are the only institutions that actually help the people. Congratulations to these brave workers for standing up for their rights and for the rights of all American workers.
My union helped me by negotiating away our step increases last contract period when we've had a desperate time getting any employees and had our employer by the balls. Thankfully management stepped in to increase our pay scale separately in order to retain a lot of us and try to boost recruiting. This is a public service union too

I believe it's known as the theorem of the second best, that The balancing of a market concentration of buyers of labor and market concentration of sellers of labor is better than either one existing on its own. Co-ops are indeed great. But unionization allows labor to take its share in a company that is not a co-op
@@personzorz I feel that unionization is a great first step because we have to start somewhere. Worker co-ops allow for the business to be run by the people who actually run it being the workers. Workers already learn new skills, teach new skills and budget. I look at this as an expansion of a union. I'll admit that I may be missing some important points that I am not seeing but as long as regulation can be tampered with workers will be forever fighting with the elite or upper class unless workers are the business and it is shown and understood as such.

I’m so happy for them. I wonder why they organized through the steel workers rather than the UAW. Maybe they aren’t comfortable with how confrontative the UAW no matter how badly they’ve been exploited per Southern manners etc. The UAW must meet people where they are if they want to have any success in the South.

As a retired bus driver, I drove these buses more than any other brand. It's probably the most frustrating job I ever had. but I loved❤ it. WE (the drivers) cared more about the safety of our kids than the schools themselves. I blew the whistle on one town when I moved out of state. I wrote a damning editorial in a local free "newspaper" who had the spine to take on small town governments. They would fudge their inspections with the DMV so many buses were unsafe. They also didn't report high school kids getting high on the buses.

I’ve never worked in manufacturing. I’ve had jobs from the lowly warehouse to management at an accounting firm. I’m 100% pro union. I hope this growth grows explosively !

They spend so much time and money trying to stop or avoid unions rather than just paying the workers fairly?! What did it cost to relocate the factory? I live in SC and people here are brainwashed into thinking unions are bad from birth. My father and grandfather before him were both in a union in NY and they loved it.
What's insane is that these companies drive their employees to unionize. Happy workers do not revolt... Hell content workers do not revolt. Wage slaves and slaves on the other hand... Seriously 2 days of vacation every 5 years and you can't cash it in until the 6th year? Where I'm from that's called no vacation.

Now if we can get school districts to compensate their bus drivers like they used to in the 80's & 90's when my mom drove. They used to pay the bus drivers for the entire day. Not just the time they were driving. Then they paid them for the summer months when school wasn't in. They had vacation time, sick days, & personal days. Then they could sign up to do field trips which would get you basically double pay on you hours between your normal route times. Then you can also sign up to do something similar during the summer. My mom basically got a paid vacation driving a school bus with kids fir a week stay at the lake where Fridy the 13th movie was filmed. Yeah all thats gone now for a very long time. Which puts unskilled drivers that doesn't care for the job transporting our most precious cargo.
I'm thrilled to hear this story. I hope the company doesn't throw them all a curve ball in the contract negotiations. I worked for an auto dealership in the southeast owned by Mile One Corporation, one of about 80 of their dealerships. The key issue that drove us to organize was wage theft. We teamed up with the I.A.M (Machinist Union) and carved out a craft unit with thoughts of bringing in other divisions and locations. When it went to a vote we had 73% YES votes and became the first unionized shop in the south. Things really came off the tracks when we started contract negotiations and we soon realized they were simply wasting time and had no intention of dealing with us. Shortly there after they had the local police lined up in the lot next door and locked us out of the shop. Everyone had to get out and would be notified when they could return to gather their tools. They'd broken federal law and were in breach of contract with General Motors Corporation...and didn't really care what it cost in legal fees and penalties. They couldn't risk our victory causing other divisions and departments coming on board. At this point I felt sick that I and a hand full of others had caused employees who voted Yes a major injury, morally and financially. But strangely enough as time went by and I spoke to everyone they were all proud of what we'd accomplished and felt a new level of self worth. Everyone found new employment and realized quite clearly how unfair the conditions they endured were. Not the happiest of endings but I believe there were many positive things that came from our attempt. Workers everywhere need to know their worth and not be afraid to organize and demand what they deserve. You go Bluebird employees. We'll be following your progress and cheering you and others on.

Used to be staff at a allergy free camp in Oregon to help a old friend. Now that it's fonder has went into retirement last summer, the board that runs the for profit program has been sipping like a wet sand castle and interacting with co-workers this winter brings conversations of relations between management who have trouble figuring out a path for the organization and the counselors that try to give the children a normal camp.

Spread the word on Ida Tarbell and T.R.'s fight against the robber barons from our last guilded age. The blueprint is there.
Extremely important to understand that the only reason these automobile plants are in the South .. is because Republican legislators sold the South as a NON-UNION. Moving plants south, was 1000% an intentional Union Busting movement. I'm glad y'all are finally fighting for unions. Paying dues is WELL worth the additional pay and benefits.

As a European I cannot understand why folks aren't supporting Biden. He's the most pro-union president you ever had and he's doing fine. Organised labour is the foundation of the welfare-society with all its graces. Without the unions we'd be in the same hole as most of the US. Organising ourselves and spreading democracy in all of our society is of utmost importance.
Because 45% of the population got manipulated by the 1% and push the narrative which only hurts the 99% and helps the 1%. Most of that 45% is concentrated in the south.

He's only meeting with workers and organizers for a photoshoot. Don't forget he broke the railroad worker's strike which would've been the biggest display of worker power in a generation and undoubtedly inspire other workers. He didn't even make his breaking of the strike contingent on the unions 1 sticking point- 7 UNPAID sick days. He just allowed workers to be screwed without a fight.
