100%. Your reaction time loss following the start of Daylight Saving Time is equal to chugging a single beer. Part of why the sleep medicine industry is one of many groups advocating to abolish DST.
Unfortunately if you're charged with impaired while being sleepy they charge you as if you're on a chemical and that looks much worse on your record. There needs to be a separate law.
Recently I fell for a good 15 minutes. Once I hit the ground I was completely fine! I have to say that indoor skydiving is quite fun! And I would absolutely recommend it! :D
then I was younger and in college (US equivalent) we had to move from one side to the other side of the campus, it was more or less a long strait not too fast, my friend had got us in his car (if I remember correctly he had gotten new stuff in his trunk that was more expensive than the car itself so he didn't want to leave it too far) so what was the harm of not putting the seatbelt on for 2 min? well nothing except I've FELT it then he had to brake, it was low speed but still it made me realise that even for a short drive YOU SHOULD PUT YOUR SEATBELT! as for speeding, well... I'm guilty of it, usually in location where it make sense for the speed limit in the day but less in the night (11PM in front of a school) I don't go overboard with it but got a couple ticket over the years for 5-10 over... mostly because I was following someone else that was speeding and didn't pay attention... So yeah... Anyway the biggest risk isn't something you aren't usually doing, it's the opposite, like the time I was really tired then I was coming home and was about to park with a sigh of being home at least... except a car was coming (at slow speed) in the opposite direction (was turning left to park) and I was: "oh a car... (1 sec later) Oh S... I need to stop!" That's also why my beater of a car got into a couple accident in parking, nothing serious (bend door, big scrape) but mostly it was either me or the other person that was boing backward into the parking spot that didn't see me (and because of the sun being low me not seeing the reverse light)... So if you are doing something that have a low risk over and over and over you'll put the risks in your subconscious and forget about them...
Florida isn't actually an anomaly, it just has strong transparency laws so media outlets can continuously look for goofy police reports and make stories about them
I'm a paramedic and we deem every fall over 2 meters high as a high energy fall (i.e., warranting a full trauma response, even if the person looks and feels totally fine). For children, it's all heights over their own body height. Now, 2 meters doesn't look too high, but it can still create some issues, especially to the brain and spine.
@@mgratk I'm so sorry to hear! Yes, indeed. Internal hemorrhaging, especially in the brain, is so dangerous! Falls are the leading cause of accidental deaths among elderly people for example, and they typically trip and fall from their own height - not from an elevated structure.
I'm a truck driver and there's been a few fatal accidents where the truck driver is found several meters from the truck and the narrative amongst drivers is that the driver was jumping clear of the truck. I've had guys arguing with me when I tell them that no skid marks and a truck that rolled over with no other vehicles around means the driver was fast asleep and got launched out of the truck during the accident. Every single time the cab of the truck is intact and a driver wearing their seatbelt would possibly even walk away but instead they don't get to go home ever again. I've been involved personally in fatal accident investigations and have worked with others in safety with far more experience and yet I've never come across the mythical accident where not wearing your seatbelt saves a life.
Trucker here as well and I've also heard the jumping clear argument, but it's been a while. I would just ask what is it about pavement that makes it sound like a good landing pad. Not to mention the mere ability to react quick enough and strong enough to get the door open when moving at speed with the air trying to push it shut. I have read at least one news report where someone was thrown clear and survived, but that is an exceedingly rare one in 10 million chance. Certainly not something to promote as being a safe option.
@@matthewboire6843 if people want to be stupid in a way that only hurts themselves, that's their problem. It's when it becomes a case where their society could hurt others, like drunk driving, that it becomes everyone's problem.
Reduce your chance of death and injuries. 1) Be observe it. 2) Be visible 3) know your escape route 4) mitigate your risk 5) Visualise your action before doing Most people really can't multi-task.. We are really good at prioritizing and switching fairly quickly. 5)
My cousin was killed by a drunk driver, it was her prom date, he wrapped the car around a tree on the passenger side, he walked away without a scratch. I have such a disgust towards people who drink and drive
I have a medical condition that causes me to fall every time I walk, It's become normal now because it's been happening for so many years. So this video was a real wake-up call to be more careful since I've almost fallen downstairs multiple times. I've even fallen on wall corners more than a few times. I've been told repeatedly to be more careful, cause all it takes is one bad fall to ruin your life.
Assuming your medical condition doesn't prevent it, you might want to get some training from a Martial Arts instructor that teaches how to fall. It wouldn't do much for falling down stairs, but it can protect your head and neck when you fall on hard surfaces. Judo and Ju-jitsu are the two styles that I know of that specialize in this. There are probably other styles that are also good for this. In the unlikely case you are in the Seattle area, I might be able to help.
@@johnbennett1465 Thanks for the info. I will try to see if I can find any instructors in my area. Unfortunately, I'm not in the Seattle area so I won't be able to take up your offer.
@@petevenuti7355 _Check with your physical therapist_ to make sure a knee brace won't make it worse by causing muscle overcompensation problems, but if they let you, you can get something called a "hinged knee brace" that makes sure your knee can only bend in the direction it is supposed to. Also, are you using a cane? You should be using a cane.
Dude, I'm a high school drop out that just wanted to go to work after school. I love your videos, I'm now studying high school chemistry on Khan Acadamy and I really, really like it. Thanks for giving me a healthy hobby I can do in the evenings.
Welding puts out the full spectrum (A, B, and C) of UV radiation. That's why you should wear a helmet (not just goggles) and a sleeve jacket and gloves while welding.
it's a mistake you only make once if you're smart. Usually I was always good about that, but had a small weld to make in the shop and went "This will be fine" grabbed my mask and did the weld... I sunburn easily... you know where this is going, worst "sunburn" of my life was acquired indoors... Never went without the jacket and gloves again.
Those medical checkups are super important. I'm overdue on mine, I must go and book it this week. Mental health isn't taken seriously in my part of the world, many companies won't let you take sick leave for mental health issues with a note from a mental health specialist (fortunately not the case where I work). The stigma for mental health issues in my country is huge - even physical health is often laughed off, plenty of people die from appendicitis here because they don't want to go to the doctor when they're in pain.
Your comment around 6:15 reminds me of a xkcd or what if story about the most dangerous place in a reactor being just under water (bc radiation levels) but a military guy said you would already be full of holes. Bullet holes.
I realized a lot of this like 5 years ago. I knew someone that rode horses and heard about different things happened to them fell off, bump into something, and knew they kicked hard. They ended up like one of my biggest fears, then a few coworkers kept trying to talk me into trying a trail ride I was scared to but also realized a trail ride is not extreme like racing them, etc. Realized too people drive everyday think nothing of it but most dangerous thing you do. Finally decided maybe I should just try a ride if I don't like it or don't go well at least I tried and I felt somehow I would regret not trying. First time I held the saddle near the hole ride but I let go it was like I was flying and felt like the fear went away. Went on for riding lessons now into 5 years. I have always been into electronics a lot of people are just like you're going to die from that stuff. I think now that or horses someone says that I'll just say at least I was doing something I enjoy when it happens. There is a rather interesting movie involving a car wreck while wearing no seatbelt and horses called walk ride rodeo. I think very well shows what I finally realized.
Driving is so gd dangerous! I need to get a bumper sticker with the Technology Connections quote [you're driving a 2 ton death machine, treat it like the responsibility it is!] (from the vid on how turn signals work)
Also Seatbelt. Guys even if you do not give a damn about your life, not wearing it can hurt and kill other people. If you get propelled like a torpedo out of your car into another person. This is more common than you think.
I live in Portland Oregon. I've died 4 times in the last 3 years from overdosing on fentanyl. Last time was 4 months ago and I finally quit. 🙌 Wu-tang bless.
Never thought id still be getting safety briefings for the week in the civilian world. lol Pretty much the same things I heard every weekend. Don't drink and drive. Wear a seat belt. Don't sleep with the strippers off post. Don't swim while drinking. If you need help my phones on, otherwise fuck off till Monday. Standard stuff.
Sadly many crisis centers ceased caring about half the population. men. I've heard a LOT of horror stories of men calling up, at the end of their rope, needing help. and the female crisis councilor tells them to off themselves.
@@loosescrew42 physiologists lean heavily female because the schools have a mindset that if your a man trying to earn a degree in it. You're a sexual predator. similar to nursing, and 'especially' teaching. Some of my best teachers were men. This was back in the 80's/90's.
I would highly reccomend the "going nuclear" series by scott manley. Already gives some great explanations for the lay person. But having you react to it could give some great insights
The part about the dangers of driving is why it always baffles me when peoppe do super risky things while driving. The risk is already there, why are you exponentiating it by being a jagoff
I disagree that people are bad at judging risk. It would be more accurate to say they have motives they don't disclose and that the most important opinions are heard less than the most 'important' people.
Tyler I sometimes worry about your comprehension. They clearly got the wingsuit figure by just multiplying up the current wing suit deaths figure. Why would you think it has anything to do with training? (Not trying to be rude at all)
I had to take an Iodine-131 pill for my thyroid scan. I was both excited and nervous lol. Pff they treated it like it was hazardous or something😂 Obviously, that's a joke. It emits gamma radiation, but it was a cool experience that I hope none of you have to have
Another big common thing is... Look both ways before crossing the street please. dont care if its a one way. your YT short isnt more important than your life
funny enough....... used to drive 250kph... everyday to work..... never had a crash or anything...... but now that im more adult an safer driver....... other people drivei nto me -_-
ru-vid.comYHqQXs07mUY?feature=shared You might want to make a video on how crazy/stupid this is some genius took apart a smoke detector (Not to replace a battery, but to use their radiacode 103 on but srsly, don't mess with radioactive things espically smoke detectors)
I'm going to be....likely controversial here. You don't matter, the world is not better with you in it, but on that same line of thinking, that is all the more reason you should stay. Because, if you are at this point, and there are others that want you here, you owe them to stick around, certainly not for your sake, because you already know you aren't worth it just as I do. They are worth it though, those few individuals who matter to you, and you matter to them, don't take that from them, or clearly, you do think you matter, and you should survive anyway and prove it, instead of robbing these people of one of those that they value.
The way some people drive. It' amazes me they are still alive. I get around by bicycle and It just amazes me how inconsiderate people are. I have had people almost hit my handlebars they pass so close. I have been actually hit 3 times in the last 15 years. So many just don't seem to know or care about basic driving laws. I have even had drivers honk and speed by me while I was stopping to let pedestrians cross.
You said. Never drink and drive kids. I would change that to never drink and drive period. Better would be even do not drink in the first place but as you are doing probably only harm to yourself, it is none of my business.
After all this time you're still doing reaction videos and essentially making non transformative content. You're likeable, smart and honestly popular enough. MAKE YOUR OWN CONTENT
