I used to be a judgmental, supercilious person. I believed I was a good person and never felt the need to think otherwise about myself, or my world view. But after the shock of the Brexit referendum result and Trump winning in 2016, something in me changed. _“People who voted for these things must have their reasons…”_ Rather than label people as idiots/bigots (like I usually would), instead, I looked inward. I started to question my own beliefs and realised that I didn’t know everything - and if I didn’t know everything, how could I be so certain that I was right? Or better? Or morally superior? And what gives me the right to judge others who think differently? So, I did the one thing a *LIBERAL* person should do… respect the views of others (even if I don’t agree). I started to have discussions with people outside of my echo chamber, not to beat them in an argument to make myself look good, but to genuinely understand. Because, frankly, winning an argument doesn’t change anything. Resolution does. Are we “all in this together” or not? We may disagree with each other, but I see it as a good thing. Civil discourse is how progress is made, not the “our way or the gulag!” method adopted by self-proclaimed, tolerant, compassionate, group thinking moral police and truth arbiters. I still consider myself liberal (by definition) but where I was once blind, now I see - having an open mind is far-right now! “True knowledge exists in knowing that you know nothing.” - Socrates _(I think)_

Just stop the boats and reduce immigration or tell us the reasons why we're not doing so.
