I mean i was a studying aspiring Jehovah Witness, i had my studies with them once a week but i would never go to the meetings, the guy i was studying with took away my ability to study with them until i logged into their meetings. 1 meeting for 1 study he said As someone who was surrounded by atheists those studies were a way for my faith to be reinforced and encouraged but he took that away from me, so i decided i was done with them

The shepherding aspect would take a big hit. Little Timmy wearing an inappropriate t-shirt to sister Sarah in an 'immodest' skirt. Did brother Camel smell of cigarettes? Why is brother Pete hanging around the single sisters so much? When COVID is finally out of the way, how will they socialise? You might be happy to invite someone to your home after meeting them many times in the Hall but, if you have only seen their face on Zoom? A shepherding call at your home would become a 'big event', possibly intimidating. And, there would be a stronger inclination to socialise, albeit casually, with non-witnesses.

I would suspect they would argue that it is the people that matter not the building, just as a number of Protestants do. That argument about being a dedicated building would make more sense if it was Catholic, Orthodox, or Anglican churches that were being sold. However, I get where you are coming from. It must be really annoying having spent all time and money building it, then to have the Watchtower come along sell it and pocket all the profits.

In the 1960’s KH’s couldn’t be sold to any other church! How times have changed.. EVERY KH in my area has been sold to other churches.. there’s only 3 left now.

When I attended meetings when I was young I often noticed that the oldies were somewhat ignored and considered a bit of a nuisance even for something like requiring a lift to the meetings. Most definently. For many that’s their only avenue of social interaction. Won’t be long before they start letting their guard down especially with whatever association they have at work. The only reason they’re able to control these people so well is the way they have them regularly meeting together. Zoom meetings may be somewhat effective but that will only hold for so long. Especially with the amount of information available and how easily accessible it is. I predict in 5 decades the religion will be completely gone, just with all the scrutiny they’re under combined with all the money they’re paying out for these pedophile cases. I was dissociated for smoking cigarettes. I have no idea who they were that reported that. Also, wearing a 'pencil skirt' was deemed by the elders as attracting too much attention. This was a long time ago though. I doubt much has changed.

I was just thinking of something similar last night. Suppose a jw snagged an interested person during an incidental witness? Time to start attending meetings... do they let this stranger into their home regularly to view zoom meetings or risk losing the interested one by giving zoom instructions? What if this "interested one" turns out to be a criminal - or worse yet an undercover apostate?

Was very surprised they ditched the book study! I was told it was practice for the great tribulation when we couldn't meet at the Kingdom Hall due to persecution and had to meet in small groups. The fact that currently they don't meet in Kingdom Halls or go witnessing is so shocking to me! You're right, anything is possible....

I’m guessing the alternative is zoom meetings for life.

I'm wondering if the GB is actually okay with that. They may not be so concerned with more people waking up from lack of physical attendance if it means saving huge $ on not having to maintain KH. Surprisingly the JW retention rate with zoom meetings is still pretty good, you will always have the die hard PIMIs and I think that's all the GB cares about is catering to keep them in.

Even if they get rid of all the halls won’t they still meet in person in each other’s homes like the old book study groups, after the pandemic ends, for witnessing? That would allow in person intimidation via the elders plus socialising for the rank and file. Maybe that will be the halfway house allowing them to retain control and grab the money at the same time?

Yes. When Zoom meetings started they were doing Judicial Committee meetings on Zoom. Then word came down from on high, Jesus I guess, that the only thing you can do at the Kingdom Hall is Judicial Meetings. Also, that Judicial Meetings should not be done on Zoom, at all. It is too easy to screen record, and that started to happen spring of 2020(or at least it was being encouraged by ex-JWs). Zoom JCs stopped abruptly and I have not heard of any JC meetings over the internet. Goatlike Personality did a video on Kingdom Halls only being used for JCs. I guess they would have to invite you to an elder's house? IDK. Edit to say: You can check the letter's to elders to see that headquarters told then not to use Zoom for Judicial meetings!

I'm grateful my elderly mother no longer has to drive miles at night by herself to get to the meetings. She's no longer risking her safety going door to door. She is on zoom every single morning for field service writing letters with the group. They talk about all sorts of things, there's lots of laughter and she enjoys it. At her age, there's no chance in her waking up so if she's going to stay in, I'd much prefer she do it this way. And most of her letters come back as undeliverable so it's unlikely she's converting anyone. Win, win, win! 😊

I agree. I married a member who had faded for over two decades. He went back to the meetings after the birth of our son. He turned into a hypothetical asshole overnight. It frustrates him of my refusal to study. It's just not for me. He defends every decision that is made by calling it "new light". I have stopped trying to show him how things make no sense. I then have to remind myself he barely made it out of high school and his ignorance is supported by ignorant people too. So, it's safety in numbers. The most recent thing I told him? I don't understand how he would take vaccine advice from an organization who discouraged members from getting them over 50 years ago because they didn't trust doctors or the government. He says its not the government pushing the vaccines despite Trump calling the program "Operation Warp Speed" to get them mass produced and on the market. He didn't want to listen. I am not anti vaccine. I am very skeptical about the government encouraging its citizens to willingly take something it hasn't approved for administration. The thing most people don't understand is when you are willingly taking the shot, you are also waiving the right to sue the company that made it. The government is going to use its very own constitution to protect itself from the citizens it was created to protect. The only good thing about it? The organization is going to have a massive die out in the next decade. There are some kids born into it now that might be their future hope, but the same internet the organization frowned upon, now their great white hope, will be their undoing. The organization doesn't like anyone questioning them, but with no face to face meetings, the elders can only exude moments of control during meetings. They can't control what happens before and after them. I giggle my butt off when I see my son and his father wear boxers with dress shirts and ties and nothing else. So, I see small cracks in the brainwashing. I ask him about it. He says they can't see him so what difference does it make? He is absolutely right! I live in Florida. A lot of the KH parking lots look unkempt and dirty. The grass in some places don't look like its getting cut, no trees getting pruned, and trash is not getting picked up. He says that happened overnight. I just shake my head. If we weren't married, I would sell him my timeshare week on the Moon. I am just waiting for the day the announcement is made where they say the new light tells them they are selling off all of the KH here to finance those "poor misguided people over in Africa". It might hold water at first. However, if someone takes the time out to investigate what is really going on over there, they will know it's a lie, and they are attempting a "Hail Mary" to keep from going bankrupt from all of the court ordered payments because of the two witnesses rule biting them in their asses and pockets. My son speaks freely with me. A lot of the parents from the hall they attended thinks their children can walk on water because they aren't "worldly". My son told me those kids hate the meetings, curse, and confess they can't wait to grow up so they can get the hell out. One kid confessed to being gay. He begged my son not to tell. He told my son because the boy knows I am not a witness and he knows my son only goes through the motions around his father to keep him happy like he does for his parents. I think the KH will be a thing of the past by 2026. That is the target year for that 26 million dollars media center to be completed. With the membership numbers dwindling, and the lawsuit payments on the rise, the money is going to have to come from somewhere. The selling of prime real estate would be the best solution. We will just have to wait and see. The only way for them to survive is to come into the 21st century with the replacement of the 8 old dinosaurs with young, progressive members full of new light in the form of ideas (survival instincts). They will most likely be relatives of the current body members just to make sure they don't stray too far from their indoctrination. .

Using Virtual Video Backgrounds on Zoom isn’t the easiest thing to setup. Back in the late 70 early 80s we hard to write out a pledge for the amount of money we will be giving towards the new hall, new assembly hall and branch office and all the free labour. The real hard sell was on given talks about saving up worldly possessions when we could be giving glory to Jehovah. Quick builds will be a fine wittness to the world. I thought it was a bit rich coming on the back of the failed 1975 when some sold their homes and used the money so they could preach full time to the end. Everyone was so relieved when we payed our new hall off because we were expected to just keep giving and all the work we had given it never stopped I wonder how long it will be before it is sold as it's on prime real estate offers in the 90's of millions of dollers but everyone was exhausted from all the buildings. Then the big steel the hall was given back to the society and now the congregation has the privilege of paying rent and doing the maintenance on a hall they don't own. After giving 65 years to the lies I'm done now my eyes are wide open because of all the new light

In the mid 2000s our local hall also was trying to build a kh. Same tactics, lots of local needs talk with charts and graphs detailing how much money we needed and what land sale prices were going for, voting on pledges from publishers to promise a certain amount and so forth and so forth. Btw it never happened , instead they ended up using all the money to remodel and relandscape two kingdom halls in the area lol. What a joke.

@@FakefulandDisgracedSlaveClass even worse my Dad worked 5 days a week then weekends holidays slaving sorry serving on the building committee he traveled all over the country at his experience missed seeing his grandkids grow serving on this so called privilege committee. To add salt into the wound he loaned a large amount of money towards building the new branch to be repaid in 5 years we could never find out if it had even been repaid he would never talk about it my guess it wasn't. My parent's gave over 75 years both I can only imagine what a wonderful life they could of lived.

They are not all wicked. All religion is a form of a cult. There are MANY GOOD JEHIVAHS WITNESSES. I was raised a Jehobahs Witness, but have always chosen not to be a Jehovahs Witness. Not because I specifically dont like JW''s, but because I dont feel I need to be a part of any group of religion to have a relationship with my higher power. All the money spent building huge ridiculous buildings to worship is unnecessary. Take all that money and help the poor, the abused women, children. Men. No other religion gathers to build their churches to save on costs, works as hard to spread what they believe to be the words of God and help teach others about God. To say all Jehovah's witnesses are evil cult members is just ignorant. Some of the most loving, kind, generous, compassionate people I have EVER known were Jehovah's witnesses, like my precious and beautiful grandma and papa when we lost in the past couple of years. My mom is also a witness and she is exactly like my grandma and papa, and would give the shirt off her back to help someone in need. As far as the child abuse policy, I absolutely do not agree. As someone who was sexually abused by a stranger when I was 14, the policy makes my blood boil. But each individual witness doesn't necessarily agree with the policy either. Another thing I greatly disagree with is it is 100% men lead, so much so, that some of the men actually treat women and their wives as "less than" , and the fact that the wives duty is to be submissive to her husband's sexual wants or needs , EVEN IF SHE DOESNT WANT TO !!! No woman, or man should ever be obligated to have sex, of not comfortable for any reason I dont give a shit who says they should. Maybe the elders who made that "rule" should go spend a little time in prison, and be forced to be the submissive one. Then let's see what your opinion of that rule is. If you have never been traumatized by sexual abuse, you have no damn clue what it is like.i dont care how many degrees you have. I have met many wonderful witnesses over the 48 years i have been associated with them through my mom and grandparents being witnesses.

When the words like "JW cult", "JW organisation" or just "cult" are used, please know that those behind the steering wheels are being referred to. Baptised in 1968 and left in 1990, I have all my loving children, grandchildren, uncles and wife (seperated) in there, though shunning me ever since. Imagine my joy if the cult organisation and its leaders are no more, then my captive loved ones become free!
