Funny you decided to cover this as I never saw this topic reviewed. I personally have avoided subscriptions on things that I don't value or think shouldn't exist as a subscription. I value quality music streaming, but what I did was download all of my playlists from amazon ultra in the highest quality into an sd card on my phone so that I wouldn't need to use up my data. No wifi needed if it's in your device. I hate being nickeled and dimed. I have a 2019 GS350 now and rarely use GPS in the car. Always use Waze. I don't like to throw money away or give it away to someone every month for something that I was already getting for free. I have had countless disagreements with my 12-year-old over continuously wanting to purchase Roblox cards. I think, you buy a game and now you are the owner. The idea that someone thought up a way to suck up money from kids who don't know they are being scammed, drives me crazy. That's my rant. Lol

I think many people have the same thoughts as you. I do agree with your thoughts as well. To have these services, Lexus needs to pay for a mobile data connection and supposedly it's paid as part of the car purchase.

This subject is very different in Europe, the services are not the same, and the "free" period is 4 years for all services. However, on my side, THIS is THE most annoying commercial and relationship problem that I have with Lexus. When I ordered my NX450h+ on the 1st week of September 2021, my dealer was taking his 1st order for an NX450h+ and seemed to know less than myself about the commercialization at that time... On the day I ordered, I knew there were some subscription based services, and I asked my dealer details about these and the conditions. But my dealer was not aware and he told me there were no subscription based services ! I asked 3 times the question and I told him I was pretty sure there were some subscription based services, but he kept telling me the opposite and we could not discuss it... A few months later, my dealer recognized his mistake... Today, this is still a negociation point that I have with my dealer and with Lexus. Obviously, I am absolutely not ready to pay for these services which , in addition, appreared to be mostly defective since I have the car.

One of the biggest cost of these subscriptions is the continuous 4G data cost - since all cars rely on data to get remote services and music streaming and navigation. Depending on where you live/market data cost can still be expensive. Canada's celluar cost is quite high in the world as in cost as we have 40 million people, but such a large land mass to cover. I doubt Lexus would absorb that cost and that is why some of these subscriptions would be needed. But for areas where mobile data is not that expensive, I would think that it could be absorbed or a much lower price. But Tesla also doing the same thing with their new vehicles as there would be a subscription cost for their services. So it's a trend in the market that we would need to accept - I assume. Keep me posted on your dealing with Lexus.. but at least you still have a few years before that comes. I have 1.5 years left before my subscription to Remote Connect and Drive Connect ends.

Really informative video, thanks LSFT. For those who have only just got their cars or are waiting for their cars it will be interesting what the arrangements evolve to be in three years time? You would hope that additional technologies will be included as subscriptions are definitely on the agenda as revenue streams for not just Lexus, but other manufacturers as well. it would make sense if the subscriptions were affordable and attractive, but I doubt that is going to be the case e longer term. I agree that most people’s (and mine) preference will be to use their phone navigation rather than pay for a subscription. I also very much agree that you won’t be able to live without charging data through your phone and it will be a shame if you have to pay for this, as it feels like it should be part of the Car package.

Australia is a small market and we are used to Apps not having full control. The App does not work with the smart watch. Parking assist is not available and nor is the digital key. With the Apple Watch, we often wait a little for accessibility such as when the ECG was brought out. We are in an App connected world and I would prefer to pay a subscription than be limited. I have friends that refuse to pay for Apps and, as they say, “you pay peanuts you get monkeys”. My BMW and Peugeot were not connected and I had to pay for map updates. Having an efficient mapping system saves money, time and risk. Yet, I am starting to wonder whether the Lexus maps (TomTom I think) are good enough. I am comparing with Google Maps and Wayze in particular. By the way, in early autumn when I received my car, I had an EV range of about 62km. Now it is about 79 km in our winter (14-22ºC). Yet when I started with 79 last week and hit the highway at 112kph, I managed only 58 km. Of more importance to me is running around town at average less than average 50kph.

Your winter is not really winter. 14-22C. if it was -14 and -22 then that is a different question. Yes - if you do drive higher speeds, the battery drains faster and you get less range. In Canada, ECG was the same for watches. It required Health Canada to approve, before it could be added. If you compare the Canada Lexus App vs the US, the US has way more functions. The reason is the laws of privacy and stuff are limited the functions. It's sad.

I agree with your review of these apps, but I must admit that I don't use any of the apps. The exception is knowing % of the battery charge. This is a requirement.

If you don't have remote connect - I'm not sure if you will be able to know the battery charge on the phone.

I guess the charging status still remains after sub is cancelled/expired. You just won't get other remote control and convenient features from remote connect. Might as well ask the dealer (if they have the info). PS. Unrelated to this but something I see in other RU-vid videos. 2024 US spec 450h+ actually have the updated interior colour (i.e. the seat colour on glove box & passenger centre console padding you saw on 2023/2024 Japan models) Yay!

That's correct. The 2024 gets the same color glove box. Even the FSport in Canada gets advanced park - that's not on my 2022

To me the most confusing is what each subscriptions entails. I even looked on the Lexus website and googled it and had a hard time understanding. Likewise understanding what services I need to pay to use the app and digital key. Looks like you need two separate subscriptions in order to see the vehicle’s status and use the digital key.

When you sign up for the Lexus App the tech did not provide any details on how long the trial periods were? I think many are in the dark. It's also a bit confusing. Assuming 2022 was the first model year.. by 2025 many of us would hit the wall and learn the hard way on what will continue to work if we didn't go for any subscriptions.

The question is after the trial. I also got the same for those services. I'm into year 2 so next year I'll need to consider this question.

@@lsft I’m in Canada, and we don’t get many options. We have two services, remote connect, and drive connect. That’s it, there is no options such as premium, music lover, or anything. :(

I think this feature is only available on the 2nd generation NXs.

How do we know that we have the subscription because I bought the car in Cambodia but the dealer was imported it from UAE? I really want to use the Lexus Connect App? Please help to advise

There is not much you can do without Lexus Europe getting involved. The car has a data module that is programmed for a particular carrier and if they do not have agreements with the carrier, it's not going to roam in your country. I'm not sure what can be done, but the dealership imported it for you, they should help you set it up.

Correct me if I’m wrong. If we do not pay for Drive Connect, do we lose the ability to say “Hey Lexus” raise or lower the temperature?

I think that will stay. The hey Lexus has two parts. But I don't have definite answer. The Hey Lexus for questions on weather etc would no longer work. But the temperature, I believe will work. But this still needs to be validated with Lexus. I know they are working with Google to get offline voice recognition and that could mean that it doesn't need to connect to the network to get results.

If you have tire hazard or tire protection. Repairs aren't included as part of service connect. It does cover towing to the nearest Lexus dealership

No....hint at least for me....on my 450h+ "F" Sport......about once every month I notice a message pop up..I ignore said message and the very next my iPhone car play works perfect.....had my car for over 1 1/2 years same procedure is clearly working for My Japan only made NX others made all in Canada...can not speak for!

CarPlay and Android Auto works fine on my 450h+ FSport as well. So I assume you don't care about how long your car will take to charge?

@@lsft You are correct, I do not care!....To me what is more important is the integrity / condition of the battery..or Battery longevity,,,,,...That said I try to keep my traction battery 3/4 full = or = or minus.....extensive research has shown do not keep your traction battery Fully charged.....the enemies are Extreme cold and extream heat....japan / Lexus has tried to address this with actual cooling / fluid circulating in the new batteries...the 210 to 2017 Prius older batts did not have this advancement of cooling...longevity of battery is of FAR more importance than how Quick / schedule of charge. Studies have shown that RAPID charge is Not good for any battery but rather, Slow charge via 120V.

I guess it all depends on how long you plan to keep the car. The battery warranty is 10 years. I mostly charge with 120V.. so I don't think that would be a problem.
