Maybe stroke is not your final chapter? How I recovered from a debilitating stroke. An inspirational, personal journey with methods and attitudes than allowed me to recover from stroke. I follow my personal progress through several episodes. My message is "Don't Give in to Stroke!"
I had a debilitating stroke and I came back despite a not very optimistic prognosis from the medical community. Methods I used to accelerate recovery. When to push yourself and when to ease up. It is important, every day, to accomplish something, no matter how small and trivial, Get back in your life a sense of success!
Covering through the episodes topics like major concerns for the stroke patient, stretching, aphasia and speech, getting back your balance etc.

It made me cry seeing you playing the guitar. I had a massive crippling stroke in 2021. Despite intensive rehabilitation, I still have many deficits. I couldnt eat, talk, walk or use my left arm and hand. I was told I will have thise lifrlong disabilities. I can properly eat now? Talk and walk with a brace and cane but no left function still. It is difficult but I let my faith lead me to slow but at least moving forward ecovery. Some days I feel hopeless like nothing is happening, but I refuse to remain broken. I am teying to write a book about my experience to motivate myself that Im not totally useless. I playvmusical instruments and really miss doing so. I love cooking too and quite creative with my hands, painting, crochet, sewing. I want to exercise my hand but it can't do anything, just closed all the time. I am excited to learn exercises you made to recover. Im glad to find this channel. Thank you for osting

I am weeping. I'm 72. i had several mini strokes in 2019 that i dealt with and put behind me fairly easily. Then in Oct. of 2022 i had the big one. On top of that the following June i fell out the door of my van and landeod on top of my head breaking my neck in 3 places and 4 ribs. This past year has been an absolute nightmare. All alone with no one to call or any help from anyone, i have barely managed to keep myself fed and alive. My home is a disgusting place. It makes me think of Jackie Kennedy's aunt and cousin ,, Big and Little Edie, and how they lived at Grey Garden. I'm typing this using my right index finger only. My left hand is useless. I can't speak or walk. But this man has given me the hope I need to start fighting back. I WILL NOT give in to stroke! i want my life back.

I now walk with a limp. I get brain fog when I even get home from church I’m exhausted. I’m like you I try to use my right hand. I’m right handed. I even had to get up off the ground in rehab with my right leg. No feeling but I can move the whole side now. I have strange sensations on this side. I wonder if the feeling will ever return. I am glad to have come across your video. It has been 14 years since my stroke that caused paralysis of my left side. With physical therapy, I was able to relearn basic movements, but after a few months my insurance stopped paying for therapy because they determined I had reached my plateau and will no longer have progress. First of all, thank you for your first hand experience about stroke. I'm quite fortunate to have viewed your vlog because it inspires me a great deal. Like you, as a hemorrhagic stroke victim barely 3 years ago, I can't help but share my struggle how I was able to overcome it gradually. Only one thing I am most grateful of is my faith in the Lord. If not of Him I must have been in my eternal rest. So, perhaps God still has a mission for to fulfill, that is to share the story about how God will restore life as it is. As long as there is hope, there is life. Keep safe and may God bless you.

Good to hear the story of someone many years past their stroke. I’m coming up on a year (age 55) and feel very lucky in some ways but also impatient for more progress. My left side was wiped out but no speech or cognitive impacts. I’m also a guitar player and was fortunate to get full recovery in the arm within a few months. The leg is taking much longer. I can walk but pretty badly, especially in public. Six months ago I could already walk pretty badly, so it’s easy to feel like I’m not making much progress. I really miss being able to move stuff around the house or take care of the yard. But I’ve never gotten really down, and generally feel pretty lucky. I quit golf a long time ago but have thought about hitting balls again just to challenge my body.

@@robertowalla6718 It’s not much of a story. I spent seven weeks in rehab hospitals working on my left arm and leg, which were both paralyzed after my stroke. I started getting some leg motion in the second week. The arm started moving in about week four, and I began trying to play piano and guitar shortly after that. My technique was rough at first but I think it was good therapy, both physically and mentally. My therapists were using some e-stim (electrical) devices on my arm, plus various exercises and challenges like grasping and moving objects. Did any of that matter? No idea. Possibly my arm was just going to heal on its own and my leg wasn’t. It has definitely made my post-stroke life more tolerable, since I practice a lot and am always checking out new guitar gear. Good luck to you.

My brother had a double stroke late November last year, followed by two strokes in April. His balance is badly affected. Please can you tell me whether your balance was affected and if so, how long did it take for you to regain your sense of balance? My brother had no physiotherapy until recently as his case was badly managed where he lived before and then when he moved he was on a 12 week waiting list. Even then, the physiotherapist only looked at his balance, ignoring everything else, now he has subluxation of the shoulder and I had to call her back because of this.

I’m curious if you had spasticity …and about how long it was until you started to use your right hand to type?
@HowIConqueredStroke
@HowIConqueredStroke 10 месяцев назад
I address the spasticity issue in Episode 6. But the short answer for typing was from not being able to move the limb at all to starting to try typing at 5 words per minute at roughly 3 or so months to 30 words after a year. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-J2oSppEitXc.html&si=2HJzfXRFdZTF964-

Hi Rick, could you tell me what area of the brain your stroke effected? And also how much of your brain was impacted? According to doctors, what was your initial diagnosis? Thanks for any info you can pass along.
@HowIConqueredStroke
@HowIConqueredStroke Год назад
A doctor estimated I lost 1/3rd of my brain. The areas of muscle coordination, speech and memory were impacted. Hearing and eyesight were spared. .

Every stroke, unfortunately, is different to some degree. I don't know the circumstances but I can only hope you see, with work, improvement. It took me 20 years to get to the stage at which I made the videos. Here is wishing him all the best possible recovery.

I had a stroke 3 months ago. It came out of nowhere. I have trouble with language. The most troubling thing is they don't know why I had the stroke and I'm scared to death I'll have another one.

I can understand.. Even though they did enough tests to find out why, there will always be the fear of having another.. at least I have such a fear. Best wishes to you!

You certainly are in a difficult situation. I know nothing about your personal situation and it seems more complicated than is usual but I would start with a social worker to see what government programs exist to help people in your situation? I can only wish you the best.
