What I love about William Prince is that he is using an authentic voice in his singing. So many folk/bluegrass/country, or whatever genre you might call this, use an exaggerated almost southern accent and twang in their voice, and it detracts in a huge way. He does this in a small way to make his lyrics smooth and flow, but not in a way that ruins it.
This is why I love Tiny Desk. Ok, its good to see the big stars in a stripped back setting and all that... but... when you get introduced to a colossal new talent for the very first time - like here - it makes it all the more sweeter.
William Prince is *probably* the greatest songwriter to come out of Manitoba in the last 50 years. And he is the best singer from the province of all time. For my money, there's nobody like this man. What a treasure. Would love to hear him do something with Joey Landreth.
I love listening to William singing his songs. He has a few-Breathless, That's All I'll Ever Become, Earthly Days-that I must stop what I am doing to sit and listen. I hope everyone gets the opportunity to listen to more of his songs, he's brilliant and lovely.
The facebook lives he did at the start of the pandemic were amazing, not sure if you've watched those, or if they are still on Facebook, but if you can find them, they are amazing.
Thank you, Y*utube. Just as you start getting into the music they play an ad. It’s one thing to play an ad but it’s just tasteless to play it in the middle of a live performance. Especially, a short performance like this.
Love love William Prince. He is an amazing person and singer. ❤️ One of my first (and not last) indigenous musicians that I have had the privilege to listen to and enjoy.
Woah ... this just stopped me in my tracks, amazing voice, beautiful songs and soooo much soul in his voice. Thanks William and thanks Tiny Desk, the gems just keep coming.
I first heard him at a small folk festival near by...I was a vendor in the craft tent...and when his set began, my customer and I stopped talking and just listened, spellbound. It was silent! I'm so happy to see his exposure grow!
Winnipeg boy here. Its so cool to see people i would normally see at a local bar like Ariel Posen, Sweet Alibi, Red Moon Road, Curtis Nowosad, and now William Prince all showing up in BIG places, doing amazing things. I feel so fortunate to live in a place where music is KING.
Truly amazing, and with a big gift. 🙏🏽 definitely a great songs we has put out. Really enjoy hearing William prince’s songs. Breathless brings tears to my eyes, reminds me of my mom who I’ve lost cancer too. You’re whole album is amazing. My mom was big huge Elvis Presley fan and breathless could’ve been the most perfect song for her. Thanks for sharing this concert with all of us. Always be a song that means something to each and everyone of us in different ways. So thanks🙏🏽
I first saw William Prince in Toronto (Secret Path Live, 2019). He covered “Son” (from Gord Downie’s Secret Path album) and he hit a grand slam home run. His voice is very calming. I could listen to him all day. Thanks for sharing this video.
Great songs from a great artist. Those lyrics and melody really strike a note inside me ... Thanks William for sharing yourself with us and NPR Tiny Desk for presenting William Prince.
First heard William on the Buddy & Jim show on Outlaw Country (Sirius XM), his voice is so warm, comfortable. I'm so thankful for avenues like that and Tiny Desk to introduce an Ol' Boomer to all the wonderful new artists that keep music alive and interesting. Thanks
I found your music last year and have become an instant fan. As a songwriter myself, I love not only the depth of your songs but the flow of the lyrics.. One of the best I've heard in many years.
