Sir John de Graeme was the best friend of William Wallace. He is also an oft forgotten hero of he Scottish independence struggle, who died at the Battle of Falkirk. Scottish history tour guide Bruce Fummey tells his tale from Scottish history.
Hear the story of Andrew de Moray • The Battle of Stirling...
There are many Scottish heroes that fought for Scottish Independence. Some achieve acclaim, whilst others are forgotten. Like Andrew de Moray, Sir John de Graeme is one of the great heroes that people seldom mention. Here we set the record straight

Scotland History Tours is here for people who want to learn about Scottish history and get ideas for Scottish history tours. I try to make videos which tell you tales from Scotland's past and give you information about key dates in Scottish history and historical places to visit in Scotland. Not all videos are tales from Scotland's history, some of them are about men from Scotland's past or women from Scotland's past. Basically the people who made Scotland. From April 2020 onward I've tried to give ideas for historic days out in Scotland. Essentially these are days out in Scotland for adults who are interested in historical places to visit in Scotland.
As a Scottish history tour guide people ask: Help me plan a Scottish holiday, or help me plan a Scottish vacation if your from the US. So I've tried to give a bit of history, but some places of interest in Scotland as well.

I actually watched the Andrew de Moray video yesterday as I'm still playing 'catch up' with these wonderful, informative videos that you embellish with a definite Scottish sense of humor (like this one) or a somber reality check when needed (like the Highland Clearances). Very cool!

Andrew de Moray Don't we have another hero of the same name?.... Hahaha just a wee joke... I'm an English born son of Scottish parents , grandma from Wick and a nan from Dundee. My holidays in Scotland as a kid was less than easy with an English accent...my cousin's would rag me all the time but no one outside the family could have a go at me without feeling the pointed end of my cousin's boots. They enjoyed taking the pee out of an Englishman/ boy but I was family and no one touched family... It's a passion I see in all my family and friends ( I served in the royal navy and my best mates were always Kelts) it's kinda like the relationship between England and Scotland .... always taking a pop at each other yet would defend each other when the stuff hits the fan...I know it's not like that everywhere but it is my experience that blood is thicker than water. The passion for history and the way he tells the story is brilliant I wish I had found this long ago... well done ,( even though your passion for Scotland is very strong you don't let it spoil the way the story is told) Thanks for the entertainment and lesson all wrapped up in humour.

Spare a thought for the love forged by these warriors, who lived and died together, often for really worthy causes, laying down their lives for their kinsmen. Not many are capable of such genuinely heroic deeds, so both Wallace and his friend are worthy of our respect and honour, especially since they laid the foundations for the freedom from tyranny of the Sassenachs. AMEN!!!

Good to see you in Falkirk again! My gran was born in Grahamston and that's what's written on her birth certificate. I grew up drinking water from the old Graeme memorial fountain (unitl we were all warned to stop drinking from it!) and believing that the battle of Falkirk had taken place at Victoria Park. Historians keep changing their minds on the exact place, though. Well done the John de Graeme Society for preserving the fountain.

I'm so delighted I discovered your channel my Celtic brother. I was recommended the McGregor video and family history, however I'm not a Conor McGregor fan personally... although I have major respect for what he achieved in the highest level of martial arts and put Ireland on the map. I merely had interest in the history of the McGregor family and your video was so good it led me down the Scottish path and I discovered so many things about Scotland, it's give me a different appreciation for your history. Considering that we are related in many ways, Scot gets it's name from Roman writers who called us Celts Scotti. The Scot Irish are a crucial part of our own history here in Ireland and history tells me, not that there's differences between us but that we're so a like. Gia leat agus adh mor. Those people were the last truly free Scotts, not so much from English tyranny but their mentality was that of free human beings and they knew what it meant and how important it was. Unfortunately for us they weren't able to instill those same virtues on future generations, Likely due to the constant beat down and corruption of their royal oppressors.

I always thought Falkirk was named after a person, but now I know. There is a mine by that name not too far from where I live. Thank you for the content!

The confused image of Wallace, Graeme and their men sitting down the night after killing de Heselrig, around a campfire listening to "Get Up, Stand Up" or even "Burnin' and Lootin'" whilst passing around a dubbies - is now burned into my mind. Mel Gibson really missed an great scene opportunity......

Greetings from Australia. My husband's family has the Wallace surname and my husband is named Graeme. Part of the family are from Scotland. Hmmm! I must do some more work on his Family Tree.
