The main competition for Williams? There are large S*K wrenches but I don't think they have any particular advantage over these but probably work -maybe don't feel as good in the hand
just subscribed, been watching your videos for years and was just able to figure out how to comment and sub...great videos the longer the better...full of details and i have learned a lot from you about tools, so much that i have started collecting tools myself. mainly ratchets there like man bling lol.. keep them coming, i dont watch tv or movies only youtube so i look forward to them. enjoy the wisdom of all tools mostly ratchet, sockets, and whrenches. my hobby is ATVs........more ratchets please.. thanks for the vids.
heavier is not always better. The strength comes form the material its made of and the heat treatment process. Thinner can be an advantage in many applications,especially on heavy equipment in tight spots.
Have you tried the USA made supercombo wrench? They have a mild anti slip design. BTW, I think they may have changed the pattern for the Blackhawk wrench. The satin set I've seen recently had a mild anti slip, too; I think it might be based on Proto's ASD. The largest wrench in that set was 1 3/16, I think, so maybe the bigger ones are different.
Looks very much like a "Supertorque" Don't think that thing is ever likely to malfunction although the Wright wrench made in that size could give it a lot of competition Wright by now probably has some antislip groves in the open end in those giant sizes (Wright not quite as neatly surfaced) look at how deep vertically the box ends are
Nice review as always! When I need wrenches of those sizes they are on low profile nuts. The chamfered flutes make that impossible. When I flea market and buy piles of rusty wrenches I am always pleasantly surprised to get a Williams, they can usually be returned to service.
@@CatusMaximus It pains me to do it but at times I have to grind off the flute and the outer radius on the box end to use them. If they work, they get a special place in my toolbox.
I dunno if you have access to Johnnesway wrenches ? I have some mbigger ones that were "inexpensive". China-Taiwan but industrial style. Beefy. 19-32 mm for $120 or so. They make them up to 40mm
I got a couple of those online from "Industrial Supply Denver" (Williams Official Dealer?) need to choose whether Williams USA or Williams Import as I recall,I think they also had some wrenches that come painted orange for making them harder to lose Epstein's (HJE) has Wrights,maybe some others
I suspect you are making too much fuss over the beam profile. It's far more likely the head/claw that's going to fail. Granted, bigger beam means bigger interface between the two but this can be accomplished with a taper rather than extra weight in the main stretch of the beam where it's mostly just for show. Notice the other ones aren't all bent up in the beam.
I believe the smaller size ones are Supercombo and when you go much above 1 inch they say "Supertorque" on them some of them come in shiny smooth chrome but I like the ones with more texture
I have been a boilermaker then pipefitter for 25 years. The OLD WILLIAMS ARE BETTER. I have many of the old and a 2 new Williams. The old Williams are longer with more leverage and lighter with a high quality of steel. Much better to work with and better for the work.
Wow, I don't know where you would need a wrench that size, Earth movers? 100 bucks for a low tech tool, I would pass on that, especially because I would not use it in my lifetime. You are now doing reviews for tools that very few ppl use or can relate to. How exactly are you planning to increase viewership with these videos?
You don't have to buy a wrench this size the video is generally about William super wrenches not this specific wrench you may actually end up with a set of normal size wrenches it's just that a large one is easier to see the design details. There is countless thousands of people out there who do use large wrenches in a variety of industrial applications. My channel caters to both the consumer and the professional. P.S. I'm here to talk about tools, and I don't discriminate against any tool regardless of brand or size I'll talk about them all.
