I took the Williamson Tunnels Tour recently
It is another local tour that I was aware of in Liverpool and had to take it to explore myself and take in the quite bizarre history around it.
I hope you enjoy the video.
I took the tour with the Friends of Williamson Tunnels who can be found here:

Thank you, Nick, that was really interesting and such a conundrum as to why they were built x

Thanks for a great video, Nick. Very well researched, and you crammed in so much of the background story. It was a pleasure to show you round 👍

Thank you. As a transplanted Scouser, this was really interesting to me. I grew up in the City many years ago and never knew this. However, I will be visiting this summer (2024) and, thanks to you, will add this to my itinerary (as well as having a pint or two in the Rose of Mossley).

There is actually 2 separate groups working on the tunnels , excavating and making them safe to be enjoyed by all .Each group is working independent of the other and some distance apart in different tunnels , people like Martin Zero have videos on the other group

I like to believe he was a philanthropist, someone who cared for his fellow man ? If he had believed in possible armageddon would he have built vaulted ceilings ? Great vid mate.

Why were they only discovered in the 1990s? as child between ages 7-11 we went down there to explore in the 1960s-1970s we called it'-them, The Time Tunnel because it was like we went back in time. Back then, all the fresh fruit from the docks, would be on the railway sidings at Edge Hill and we would go get Oranges and Pineapples and sometimes we would go down the railway tunnels to the time tunnel to explore.

Joseph Williamson makes an appearance In Dr Who (see BBC Iplayer Whoniverse 2005-2022 series 13) at the start of episode 1 along with some drone footage of Liverpool. He explains the tunnels to the Doctor in episode 6 which shows the Soltarans invading Liverpool🤣🤣

Is it just me, or does anyone else also ask the question, why were they covered from top to bottom with rubble, and who exactly would have filled it in? When something goes undiscovered for so long, since the world war operations, it means they were purposely covered up. I also find it funny that they have such a story written about it. If they did not know the tunnels existed, how is it possible to have such a story? Is it made up? Just like much of our history, it seems to me that this is a false narrative to hide the fact that these tunnels are ancient, just like lots of the architecture, that is all apparently from the 1800s. Take a look around, it's older. Didn't Victorians have horses and carts? If so, how the hell did they build such an incredible city?
