Honestly pretty good mechanics for the 50s and 60s

What does the year have to do with good swing mechanics?

Hard to hit 660 home runs without good mechanics bud. Doesn’t matter what the era was.

@@hittingdoneright baseball wasn’t the same back then, you didn’t have to have the best mechanics

@@randymarsh6931 have you seen film of babe Ruth’s swing? He did not have good mechanics

@@lincolne.4326 How many home runs have you hit in your life at any level? Seriously. Let’s say the pitching in the 20s/30s was on par with high school pitching now. To hit 714 home runs, you have to do a very particular set of things in order to hit the ball far consistently. Ruth’s mechanics worked for him, and they generated the power necessary to do what he did. That’s all that matters.

Mays Height & weight : 5'10" & 170. Compare that to the players of today who are a lot bigger but can't hit or field or throw like Mays .

I don't think they were throwing 100mph+ fastballs back then. Probably a lot less steroid use back then as well.

@@arnonroyna4420 There were a number of pitchers throwing hard at 95 mph+ when Willie was playing.

Its pretty remarkable. If you know the actual heights of players of players now days, most fall between 5 10 and 6 feet even. You'll see guys that are 510 listed at 6 feet or 5 11 listed at 6 1. You get to looking at them next to people you know for sure their height and see they are much shorter. Example, look at Vladimir Guerrero jr standing next to his 6 3 father. He's easily 3 inches shorter yet he is listed at 6 2. Alex Bergman at 6 feet even. He's barely taller than the catcher squatting.
