This is a perfect song imo. Willies voice, the steel guitar weeping, the harmonica wailing, and a guitar solo that can make a grown man cry. Great choice to react to.
Indeed, and it’s a great rabbit hole. It would be fun to see her be the first reacter to do this, rather than just listen to one or two of his songs. Willie is a true national treasure.
Amen. He’s my favorite - so much great stuff, spanning so many different styles, yet he makes them all his own. His Stardust album is a great example of this.
This song means so much to me. It was played often on vinyl in my home as a child. It was also played at my mother's funeral. She was the angel flying to close to the ground. She struggled with alcoholism her entire life. My dad picked her up time and time again for the duration of their life together (48 years). It simply parallels she and my dad's life. She flew to Heaven out of her pain in 2017. #cancersucks
Believe it or not, Willie has written more songs than Dolly. Although he is a badass Outlaw, he has written some of Country’s most beautiful ballads. Willie’s ever present sound…his guitar Trigger. Great YT clip on the story of Trigger. Also, the blues harmonica and his sister at the saloon piano.
I never cared too much for him as a solo artist although he has written some great songs. Voice is just a bit nasal for me but I love his collaborations with Waylon and Ray Charles.
Yes!!! I am so excited to see you react to Willie!! My favorite reacter listening to my favorite performer! This was a great one indeed. I think the other one you reacted to was “Always On My Mind” which is my all-time favorite. But this was a great choice by whoever recommended it. Kudos. Others: Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain, Crazy, The Last Thing I Needed First Thing This Morning, Remember Me, On the Road Again, Uncloudy Day, My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys, I’d Have to Be Crazy, All of Me, Good Hearted Woman, That Lucky Old Sun, Blue Skies, Can I Sleep In Your Arms, Whiskey River, He has a great 3 song medley of Funny How Time Slips Away/Crazy/Night Life which I highly recommend. For something in a totally different style, check out These Lonely Nights which is fun. You could react to nothing but Willie for months, he’s got so much great stuff.
Thank you darling! Willie did this song at the West Fargo, ND Fair back in the mid-80's and I watched him do it. The craziest crowd for a concert you'd ever see. Old, young, bikers, cowboys. Everybody. This song has resided in my heart ever since. Willie has so many great songs but this may be my favorite. Thank you so much for doing a Reaction for it!!!
There is no one on the planet that sounds like Willie Nelson, nor will there ever be...He is a one of a kind legend, and we should all be grateful that we were around to share his magic all these years...Bless you Willie!
Met Willie in 1977 in Pine Bluff Arkansas with Jerry Jeff Walker I had came from Nashville and it was a few days before Christmas and I was a cross country truck driver and I gave a ride to one of another country artist roadies whom I had met driving across Tennessee late one night who was driving thier tour bus back to Nashville he needed to get back to Austin and couldn't get a plane ticket and lucky for him I had a load going to Austin but on the way we stopped in Pine Bluff where Willie and Jerry Jeff were playing that night and since he knew everybody there including the roadies we were backstage and when we left and went on to Austin after I unloaded we partied all night at a bar down on the Colorado River and at a concert hall a couple of blocks away I got so drunk that I don't remember some of the last hour or so but I woke up the next morning in my sleeper with a case of Lonestar beer in long neck bottles 4 tee-shirts from the concert hall and one of the roadies old cowboy hats that was several years old and was shaped magnificent and that I had admired the night before needless to say it was one of the best Christmas early presents of my life Willie and Jerry Jeff and all of the roadies treated me like one of their old friends that they hadn't seen in a while thanks to all those people for one hell of a memory
Don’t get overwhelmed! This is a great song. Could you do willie and Waylon “momma’s don’t let your babies grow up to be cowboys “ or “Luchenbach, Texas “
My favorite Willie Nelson song because of the memories of working at a car dealership and one of the mechanics would tell out to me to duck right before Willie saying Angels flying to close the ground.
Willie was heart broken at this songs writing. Its about his son who passed due to addiction. On a happier note Ill have to share my Willie Nelson story sometime. Its a kicker.
Willie sings other genres as well. One of my favorites by Willie is his Stardust album that has lots of old standards, Moonlight in Vermont is a favorite on that album. He did an album with Ray Charles that was awesome.
This song was written for a fan of Willie's who's wife had died of cancer. He got to know them from seeing them at his concerts. He noticed his wife wasn't with him .
There is a duet that Willie Nelson does with his son Lucas Nelson called "Just Breathe" i truly wish that someone would do a reaction to that song. Also he has another son that appears breifly in the song as well. Micah Nelson.
