I saw it in the theater when it first came out. It has stayed with me all these years. Haunting.

Films like Sorcerer is why out of the whole baby boom generation of auteur directors William Friedkin is my favorite. I would've loved to attend a screening introduction like this- the moment is past. R.I.P. maestro Billy Friedkin.

I just watched this film on bluray & cannot believe I hadn't seen it before or hear about it more often. Completely discovered it on my own and reaffirms my belief in giving a chance to new old discoveries! You never know how great some random movie may be and can lead to other great film discoveries.

It doesn't get more raw and gritty. The movie works almost like a documentary. Freidkin should be complimented on being so gutsy to release such a uncommercial product.

i finally got the chance to see this film. i heard that it flopped at the box office because all anyone wanted to see was star wars, and they were released at the same time. i liked star wars as a kid. but watching sorcerer now, i find it way more entertaining. and the stunt work was fantastic.

Sorcerer has got to be the most underrated film of all time. I first came across it when I realized Tangerine Dream had done the soundtrack (they did phenomenal work on Thief, Risky Business, Near Dark, and a number of other films) but knew I had to watch it when I realized it was Friedkin's follow up to The French Connection and The Exorcist. Even after almost 50 years, this film is still relatively unknown and I never hear anyone talk about it. It's truly a hidden gem and I would say it's William Friedkin's best work.

Strange and deep film. Almost no dialogue. All images.

Showed it to a group of friends during movie night. All of them praised the film and felt it deserves a much bigger audience than it has had. "Sorcerer" now has a bit of a cult following: certainly not like "Rocky Horror Picture Show" but devotees who love it.

This is certainly the best of the Friedkin films that I've seen but the title really, REALLY didn't help and probably contributed to its failure at the box-office. The link between the title and the film itself is very tenuous at best.

From what I remember, the trucks had names on them and Sorcerer was the name of one of the trucks (which has an eerie resemblance to the demonic face behind the film's logo at the start of the movie.) I like that it's the title and I think it works well as sort of a metaphor for fate itself being somewhat of a sorcerer that will not allow these men to escape their destiny. Obviously you're correct in that it didn't help draw in a wide audience, I think even Siskel/Ebert mentioned this in their review of the film, but I really like it.

I saw it new in my teens. The movie showed me how to open a long neck with a 1911. Just so you know. Sorcerer is the thread telling of the story.

Friedkin would not change one frame of Sorcerer, though it his not his most favourite film. In 1977 It was great in my opinion. Like, The French Connection, Exorcist, Friedkin knows how to put suspense in realism

This movie had to compete with Star Wars no wonder nobody saw it. That is also the reason now at this point. With the ugliness that Disney is spewing.
