Willys Jeep 4 speed swap: Dana 18 disassembly!
In this video I completely tear down an ancient Dana 18 transfer case. These were standard in Jeeps for decades. The Dana 18 is an easy rebuild that can be done over the weekend. After getting these vintage parts cleaned up I can start the rebuild of the transfer case for the 4 speed swap in my 1960 Willys CJ3B!

Nice explanation or "how to" for pulling these apart. Didn't know about the different size intermediate shafts - or if I did I forgot - getting old, lol. Thanks for sharing, now hanging out for the "put back together" video.

Fun story. After disassembly, it was 4 to 5 months before I went back to assemble my d18. I got my forks reversed (single stick) and had to disassemble twice to finally get it right.

Nice work, made it look easy! When I was rebuilding mine the output shaft had me scratching my head at first before I saw the snap ring. 🤔

Do you happen to have any videos on the Steering gearbox You seem to be very knowledgeable I cannot seem to figure out how to get it off of the frame rail The previous owner took the Steering shaft out of the gear box

I don’t think I have any video showing the removal. There should just be a couple bolts holding it on to the frame. Good luck!

@SevenBarSalvage Thank you for the response. I started looking to it a little bit further and found out That it has slotted holes Very small tolerance between the bolts and the engine This is my first jeep restoration Mainly just worked on 60's mustangs

What would let water into the transmission and transfer case working on one myself Just want to figure out where to direct most of my attention I don't want to do a full tear down

Nothing seals the top of the shifter except a little grease and the rubber boot. Almost any T90 left out in the weather with get water in it. Hope this helps!

Yes, the guy I got it from Had it outside Note protection at all Is There anything that I can put on the top of the shifter for More water sealing In case I drove it in the rain At the moment it doesn't Have a roof But it will be getting one Also so most of the water probably came from the top of the shifter?
