I took the 1949 Willys CJ3A to Haspin along for the 6x6 ride. It performed really well for how nasty the peanut-butter leaves-covered mud was. She smokes like a banshee but keeps on trekking.
Looks like you guys had some real fun.. You could get on a little better with a better mud tyre.. Great to see you are using it for what it was made for.. :)
Love to see the stockish Willys on the trail having some fun. sharing one from our club called "flying Flatty" 1946 Willys CJ2A Dauntless v6: Flying Flatty at Ma and Pa Rockers Off-road Park
Cool i have a CJ 3A too but i am in australia. Mine is running Original 2.2 litre Go Devil F Head Motor. I was lucky to have it used in a few films made over here.
No. Due to Film Production companies.. But it was used in ...Mother Son and the Socialites starring Mary Tyler Moore..... Evil Never Dies... and Salems Lot remake with Donald Sutherland... Each times was used as the HERO car....
too much bloody fun being had here .50 plus year old jeep is a still kickn along... Either a CJ-2A or a CJ3A.. Is it still running original go devil F Head motor.....
And if your winch isn't strong enough to pull you out get yourself a snatch block and a tow strap to make the pull out hook tow strap to anchor point the snatch block to tow strap then winch cable threw snatch block and back to jeep! ......this works 99% of the time my friend, and cost less than a more powerful winch. and gives you longer distant reach too!
+MuddOxRacing I don't know what year it is but there are lockers available for the Dana 41 and the 25. Not air lockers but they would be a vast improvement over open diffs.
+MuddOxRacing No, it doesn't need to be tuned up. I would check the carb to see if it's got any gunk in it. You can ONLY run non-ethanol fuel in these old vehicles. They have a hard time because Ethanol Fuel is so much less explosive. Ethanol also is filled full of junk from pieces of dirt to pieces of corn husks. It is hard to see but trust me when you separate it you can see. To separate the fuel all you do is add water to the fuel. That is all it takes to separate the fuel from the gas. Then you just need to get the fuel on top away from the Ethanol water mix on the bottom. (if you don't know how this works, it is because water is more dense than gas and would rather bond to the ethanol. So the heavier liquids sink to the bottom of the can) What we do to drain out the ethanol is we have a cut in half propane tank, with the nozzles sticking downward. We welded on a base, and added a valve on the bottom of the tank. Then you can watch the ethanol level drop as you drain it out into some container. Ethanol under gas looks like lard. Now you can just drain the Non-Ethanol fuel back into you fuel can and use it. It is way more powerful and efficient for old vehicles, chainsaws, lawnmowers and weed whackers to use. I'm certain you can find a use for the Ethanol.
+Fishermanthebest Good writeup but we special order non-ethanol gas for the shop. The engine had trashed cylinder rings which caused the smoke. Those tires still had the nipples on them. Again, the Jeep has been completely restored and is like new.
