My friend in high school had a CJ2a. I helped him rebuild the carburetor. I remember driving it up in the mountains on a snow day. My ass got frost bite from sitting on that cold piece of steel. He sold it to fund his ticket for our band trip to Ireland.

A long time ago, I was driving through the Ardennes in Belgium in a rented Renault 5 when a tire blew. It was a Sunday, and there was no spare. I managed to stop a passing truck, and the driver gave me a lift to a man who would be able to help me. In the middle of the woods I spotted an enormous pile of tires, underneath which a workshop was barely visible. The owner/mechanic appeared to be an avid collector of WWII army vehicles, as I noticed several jeeps, halftracks, trucks and the odd Sherman tank. He was happy to help, got out a few tires, and directed me to his car, a Willys, not unlike the one in your video. He drove me cross-country, through the woods in record time to my car, which in itself was an experience , sitting in a seat, previously occupied only by a GI in the Battle of the Bulge. His seat was a Recaro, with the racing seat-belts, which wasn't a luxury, as he had converted the Willys with rally suspension and gears to get the most, performance-wise out of a Peugeot 205 GTI engine. Ever since, when renting a car, I check e-ve-ry-thing.

Years ago I knew a guy that had one of these with a hopped up Buick V 6 engine. It was amazingly quick, but not very fast with those tractor gears!

Spoke to a guy driving a 1946 Willy's the other day. He was there when his parents bought it new. He was 3 years old at the time. He said his mother taught him how to drive in that Willy's and he taught his son how to drive in that Willy's. I told him his old Jeep was an heirloom. Pretty cool.

I had one of those when I was young, same year and model. I took what was left of it apart, but decided to go back to school cause I was working in a warehouse. Long term it was a better decision, but man do I ever regret not finishing it.

Just gotta say thank you for removing all of the wind sound when you're driving the jeep. So many other car channels dont actually take the time to do that and I thank you for it!

I actually have a wheel from one of these cars, and it was the military version my grandpa restored the wheel and turned it into a table.

I absolutely love the way first gear sounds. There's something about driving these old, simple vehicles that it just so enjoyable. In 2017, I finally got to drive my grandmother's Fiat Panda while in Italy, and that thing was so much more like a go-kart than I was expecting. Supercars make for excellent weekend toys, but these open-top, relatively slow, scary manuals truly bring out the thrills.
