My grandmother lived in Wilmington in 1910 when our family came here from Italy. She said the city was clean and quite beautiful. She cried when she last saw her neighborhood in the 80's.
Did the bitch cry when the government moved thousands of jobs out the city and flooded the place with crack. People never speak on the government destabilizing these places and manufacturing otherwise non existent conditions.
My mom and dad lived in Wilmington for a couple of years back in the day and moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida when my mom was three months pregnant with me. Thank you momma and daddy!
This ain't even "Wilmington" tho... this is 4 blocks on Northside that you drove around six times & 3 blocks on Eastside. You got these ppl thinking this our city & these not even the craziest spots! Or you wasn't ready? 🤔🤔🤓🤣🤣
Stanley Lambert bruh I live like around the corner from where he drive around like he did forget about west side but like why not the city the city worse or how bout 8th street like tf😂
was looking forward for this video Had to drive through here on my way to B-More from Philadelphia So many Small towns thats really with the Business on the east coast u never hear about
Of course it looks like Philly, it's like 10 miles away. Every city from Fredericksburg VA, minus D.C. up through Baltimore, Wilmington, Philly, Camden, Trenton, Newark, New York, New Haven, Boston all got that old Colonial Era Post Industrial densely packed rundown look. Urban Decay. Baltimore, Wilmington, Reading, Philly, and Camden do all got that identical look though. Chester, Pottstown, Norristown, all those old shitty Cities got that look. But obviously, Camden looks the worst, Philly, then Baltimore, then Reading, and then Wilmington.
I see you riding down N. Market, you should of rode down Riverside Projects off Governor Prince, ride through S. Bridge Projects, Eastside Bennett St., or the Hilltop
I know nothing about Delaware and couldn't even find it on a map of the US. What's really fascinating to me is that there are so many row-houses and how similar these neighborhoods are to those in Baltimore and Philadelphia.
Hi Charlie. Big fan of your Channel. i have a question? it is ok for you when i use some vids from you for my instrumental beats? thad would be awsome. and sorry for my bad english. im from switzerland btw. keep on. greetz
It’s so sad to look at this video because I can tell This neighborhood and area must have been beautiful at one time. I love the architect of the buildings and houses, and oh the trees, such beautiful trees and color of the leaves. So sad to see the decay and deterioration of such beautiful places. I see a lot of people at street corners in this videos, just killing time, I guess. Then I see all the trash and think they could put their time to better use by picking up trash and cleaning yards to make their neighborhood a nicer place to live in.
It's dangerous enough to be a black man in these areas, why stick out like a sore thumb? I drove through black hoods in San Francisco with Oregon license plates , blasting music and didn't realize entering South Haight in the early 90s I would be the only white dude driving around the streets. Everyone was looking at me like I was from another planet. Gangsters hanging out on the sidewalks drinking 40s and some doing drug deals in broad daylight. I suddenly realized that I went into the wrong hood and was going to get whacked. So, I just smiled , acted like I knew where I was going , put on my beanie, didn't stare at them or act nervous and many probably thought I was looking to score some drugs or maybe i was Hispanic since I had a beanie on my head and sunglasses. Anyhow, I got the hell out of that neighborhood as fast as I could.. You don't just go joyriding in a dangerous hood, even if you are black. People catch on real quick if you don't belong somewhere. Being white, automatically makes you a target.
Yo Charlie enjoying the videos, keep up the good work! Just a suggestion, maybe you could play some quiet classical music in some videos? That would be very relaxing..
WL Walkin you talm bout Iowa over here... 😭 y’all got 100k more people than us and we still average more bodies. Charliebo never gonna go to yo city cuz he gone be driving through the burbs
@WL Walkin I be in des Moines, ain't nothing there but land and opportunity, totally different world, I would expect someone that lives out there to be either a farmer or s doctor ain't much to do but nice ass big houses big land...clean air, you can fit my city on somebody's backyard out der.n I be the only guy out der bumping sum hood music in my semi truck ...
Not really city boy has a point I use to visit Wilmington alot and I'm from jersey JC the jungle to be exact and I was raised in Gloucester county Wich is like 30 minutes from Wilmington Delaware and 20 away from Camden NJ and if I used to be in Wilmington all the time I know others from NJ were there I mean Wilmington fits rite in with jersey very wild and unpredictable I use to love it going there most times it was at night and it was summer as well
This wasn't even the worst part of Wilmington. And I have lived in Wilmington, Delaware for 50 years. I live about 10 miles from where this was taken. This was a yawn fest. The only bad thing that ever happened to me in this area was a 12 year old throwing me gang signs.
Not in Wilmington, this was recorded on Monday Nov 6th. Wilmington is heading a little bit south. The trees take longer the farther south you go, especially near the coast.
Very interesting video footage of my city. Sort of sad these days. To me, it looks like any other inner city that I have traveled through. I must say that I can remember when Wilmington took pride and looked much better in these very same places. You used to see the street sweeper all the time and now you almost never do. I believe I have traveled down every street seen in this video! If blame has to be placed anywhere, it starts with the citizens that live here. They have to care enough to clean in front of their homes. I lived on the eastside in the projects and in the 60s and 70s, we always had neatly manicured front lawns! Just because you're poor does NOT mean you have to be dirty! Secondly, the city has to care for the inner city! Get those street sweepers back out there and people, clean your own front areas to represent Wilmington! Post note... crime was much less back then too so if fear is a deterrent, I sort of understand. No one wants to get shot while sweeping in front of their own home! Prayers for my city that I still love!
Yall peep how quick he left 2-4😂 and mann Eastside, Westside, and South Bridge is a part of Wilmington too dude lmao he was juss scared... In from here I pull up in every hood🔥
Andrew Cadwallader i live in Wilmington on the north side and basically we have one tiny section of the city that’s still nice and beautiful and thriving but it’s literally like 10 blocks max everything else is pretty shitty there
I was born in Delaware .. it says it on my birth certificate but moved to Baltimore and started life from there .. didn't even know they had hoods there
I was watching virtual tours of south central LA and wanted to see if there were any like that from here. It looks like they don't know where to go to see anything interesting, or maybe it was cold outside
I lived in Wilmington long ago when I was a young kid back in the '70s. I was no where near this part of town. I lived in the northern area right by I-95 on Highway 202.
Crushes my heart. I was born and raised in Wilmington, on Elm Street, in between Union and Lincoln (South). Family has been in Wilmington since the late 1800s. We had a great neighborhood and existence growing up in the 70s and even some 80s. We had wonderful neighbors. I'm fortunate I left for the Midwest in 1994, although I really hadn't lived in Wilmington since 1981 (was in Virginia through 94).
I'm from Philly.I lived on fourth and DuPont, the Hill.J.B's Lounge.Swann Cleaners.Old mom and Pop's ice cream shop.Tony's liquor store. This was back in the 80's.The Italian festivals were fun. It's sad to look at how things have changed for bad-
#BAGLIFE MIKE oh no? Why was it on the COVER of Time magazine with the title "murdertown"? It's ranked as top 5 for cities of its size in violent crimes. Was number 1. The city has "shot tracker" cameras everywhere(which don't work). ABC even tried to do a show based in this city called 'Murdertown' with Jada Pinkett.
this is proof that "row houses" does not work for poor black people. also the mayor should organize a clean the streets day at least once a month in the worst areas.
I live in Delaware and I recognize everywhere he went 😂😂 but tbh Wilmington ain’t all that bad these are just the really messed up parts, I don’t live in the city / hood area but I have family that does and it isn’t that bad
Im from va but live in delaware & before i moved here i never really heard anything about de but it gets real here its hoods everywhere the sad thing about delaware alot of people be proud to be known to be where gunplay is active like being ghetto is hip its sad how they glorify being a shoota
That wasn't even close to the "WORST HOODS" in DE. Roll down to Riverside projects. Roll through the horse shoe. You will literally have 6-8 yr old kids throwing crack and heroin in your car. No joke. Heck even South Bridge is worse than where you were riding through. The start of the vid looked like near 202 Concord Pike area which isn't the best place. But still nothing compared to where the Prison is off Gov Prince AKA: Riverside. Good luck and be safe.
I'll be bringing body armor , AR-15, couple pistols and lots of mags... Fuck the gun laws in the state... Better to be judged by 12 then carried by 6 .. And, these are not even the worst hoods!
FromtheMudd419 Makes sense since most cities on the East Coast were built and planned by Europeans when we were colonial America, and Europe is known for its dense and packed cities
The neighborhoods are rundown, there are boarded-up useless buildings, trash in the streets - but the fall trees still stand in all their glory! Brings to my mind Maya Angelou's poem: "Just like moons and like suns, With the certainty of tides, Just like hopes springing high, Still I’ll rise. "
Lamel Prince my peoples are from Brooklyn. Been there a 100 times. But the north side, south bridge, riverside and east side of Wilmington are no joke. West side is right up there. Guess it depends on what part of Wilmington someone goes. Just like in Brooklyn . Hit up north market in wilmington in the summer. Jumpin
Whatssup with y’all New York niggas? Why y’all think y’all the hardest place ever lol........ it’s places out there that make y’all niggas look real soft, y’all just riding a rep from the 80’s and 90’s...... it’s not ev n bad in Brooklyn like that no more
@Beverley Hohn Chang really.... ? That's kinda foul. I was born and raised in the slums of this city and i take offense to that statement because I'm neither....
I was trying to compare providence to this.......When I went to Providence it was nothing like I thought it would be. I was definitely in a Puerto Rican hood though.
keepmycash for income tax to be collected, income needs to be generated. This place doesn't look like it has any working people. Looks like a den of welfare collectors.
Alex - the people living in the area pay property tax and sales taxes. But DE has no sales tax. The people working and owning businesses in an area pay income taxes. Welfare or no welfare there is still alot of money in this city. But even if it was a city full of welfare recipents, they or the property management company that owns the building in which the may live still have to pay property tax. And the majority of this city urbanized. And as far as "looking like a den of welfare recipients" - In every affluent city in the US there are programs to assist unemployed people and low income earners. There are low income housing programs that allow someone to rent a 1 bedroom apartment that rents for $3200 and pay an amount reasonable to their income. I have seen payments as low as $400 and the program pays the rest. If cities did not participate in these types of programs, its occupants would leave and the burden of the necessary difference would be on the people paying taxes on anything in the immediate area. Your income and property taxt would quickly rise if the program recipients in your area decided to leave.
Toob247 - Property taxes increase depend on several factors. Read this: www.realtor.com/advice/finance/reasons-why-property-tax-bills-increase/ . Also where did you get your information from that led you to believe that these homeowners are section 8 recipients? Do you know what section 8 is? How many people in your own neighborhood are collection section 8, food stamps, etc...? Would you rather have homeless people in your neighborhood or Section 8 recipients? Do you know what section 8 provides for a city? I actually work in property management and have seen Section 8 recipients in Santa Monica, CA, Beverly Hills, in apartments where studio apartments cost $2,200 and up. Section 8 recipients come in all colors, shapes, forms and social classes. A Section 8 recipient can have $150,000 in their bank account and can qualify as long as a certain percentage of interest income does not exceed what the minimal income qualification is. This depends on what city you live in. Educate yourself of the facts before you become judgemental.
You sound like the typical racist whose small mind cannot see how little of a box you live in. Just because you own a few properties doesn't mean you have an idea about what you are talking about. Because I can tell- really you don't. Remember your properties are in the hood. You talk about poor people and section 8 BUT you yourself are thriving off of it. Why don't you refuse Section 8 payments if you don't like how it works? (Don't take your foot out of your mouth just yet!) You are ignorant just like the statement you made - "Most are section 8. If the programs dried up. The low income or welfare people woukd leave to cheaper places like southern states." however; you yourself would dry up also and be right down there with them. You still are a little fish in a very big pond but you think you are a shark. In other words - your false RU-vid persona to try to make an incorrect point is irrelevant. Have a nice life!
Gordon Street. I had the unfortunate experience of living in one of those garages.... (definitely moved up in life since then.) between 22nd and 23rd / Lamotte and market.
FACT: Most cats in Wilmington actually traveled from Philadelphia as part of their lifecycle. I guess you can say its really the cats MEOW, amirite guise?! jej
Eh looks a lil better than SOME parts of philly , sadly. 😬 but the architecture is similar ...Delaware , Maryland, eastern pa , and southern jersey are built similarly .
Lots of good places in the west coast... even in washington.. Yakima, Tukwila, Wapato, Spokane, Tacoma. The ghettos here in washington remind me of the south unless you're in the sea-tac area which is more modern & dense
Wapato is the poorest city in washington as of this year... Its in the Yakima Valley on the rez as is most of the yakima valley except the actual city of yakima itself. Yakima county is nothing but meth addicts, mexican gangs & dead grassy hills everywhere
Gabriel Ferretiz Tacoma hilltop is bad. Some areas in Seattle aren’t great , but mostly homeless . Caldwell Idaho has one of the highest gang violence rates per capita in the country. I’d still rather live in any of those places than Oakland though . I took the wrong exit into Oakland when I was in California a couple months ago . I ran two reds and a stop sign to get out of there because of the looks I was getting .
HammeringTruth highest murder rate per capita in the nation. Highest murder rate per capita amongst teenage killings. Ain't conditioning, nice cars, satellite dishes. Good drugs. Don't be fooled
As u can see my name, im not a american and in this video, most of people are african Americans. Do u have any reason to show african American for Worst hood? Im curious...
Crystal West. Ciao from Sicily. Well maybe it looks like Baltimore, but probably not as bad Dear. I was in Little Italy in Baltimore a few months ago. And that Neighborhood is almost gone. Then I went to my old Little Italy Neighborhood in Washington DC, and it is still around and doing fine. Well God Bless Dear and have a nice morning.
I remember in the early 2000s right when the state property movie came out. A couple of my friends and myself went to go see the movie and got lost in Wilmington. We must of been on the good side because we got out the car and just walked up on some dudes and told them where we was from (Dover) bust it up for a few and came back home.
