In 2019, Wilmington, NC became the first official WWII Heritage City in the United States, after a 12 year long initiative led by Captain Wilbur Jones (author and Navy veteran). NC Weekend host Deborah Holt Noel meets with Captain Jones at the Hannah Block Historic USO building in Wilmington to learn more about WWII Heritage Cities, and Wilmington’s many historic monuments, markers and memorials to the Second World War.
