Thank you Jay, that's exactly what I think, your comments are very objective.

Jay, I totally respect your opinion, but just wanted to say that I have Sasha 2's in a treated room with a 30K front end and 10k worth of cables and I love them. The measured in room FR is also excellent (+\- 3db throughout the upper and lower midrange) but more importantly they allow me to get lost in the music. I expect your standards are higher than mine given your experience with such wonderful high-end equipment but anyone watching this review and thinking about Sasha 2's should not take Jay's opinion in isolation. I picked up a secondhand pair for £15,000 and my system they give me a huge amount of joy. thank you Jay for your reviews which I've always enjoyed.

Jay, what are those 3 way speakers with the matching sub in your intro? Thanks 🔊🎶 😊

Why not dynaudio? Dynamics at low volumes are excellent with ayre r series + opens up at volume very nicely. My confidence 30s are crammed against a wall but load the room fantastically.

Jay, will you ever compare a B&W speaker to a Wilson speaker? I have never found one.

Sasha 2 is probably not a "bad" speaker but i didnt like chord dacs or dave at all. After my amr dp777se (amazing dac) broke for a second time switching between 16 & 24 bit dacs, i upgraded to dcs bartok then apex. About to test ayre qx5 twenty (ayrehead r series) then perhaps playback designs and tidal. Im interested in a power cable without ferrite.

While I agree with ya on most points, nothing wrong with the Sasha 2. I listen to the Daws & 2’s side by side & heard no major diff. 2’s weren’t likely fully broken in. Likely something in the set up or room when you had them. Wilson’s run big & love ballsy amps & room to breath. And a bit to dependent on the Wilson dudes setting them up properly. For me the Sasha 2 beat out the Focals, Dyneaudio.

Your last claim is absolutely false. Magico S5, like ALL Magico speakers I’m familiar with, and Wilson’s for that matter, require amp with relatively high damping factor to control their bass drivers. That can be SS or valve, topology and execution is the key but even high damping factor amps is not a certainty for best sound. I have heard the S5 with the legendary Krell KSA250, while bass was tight, quick and impactful the overall sound was uninspiring. In fairness, I’m not the biggest Magico fan, especially the S-series, I much prefer the M-series, but this was not a good combo, despite the very high damping factor of all D’Agostino designs. The soundstage lacked depth and focus, female voices and violins were lacking crispness & detail. One of the best high damping factor SS amps was just a bad combo. The best amps I’ve heard with S5 in order from 3-1 is Pass Aleph 1.2, AGD Gran Vivace and VTL MB450. The first 2 are silicon mosfet devices, albeit unique topology. The last, and best sounding imo, is in fact a valve amp. Luke however designs his amps, much like his father did when he was at Manley Labs, to allow user to adapt circuit topology to best suit the load, ie speaker. For S5, run the amp in triode mode with medium damping factor, although it’s very easy via switch to change the damping from high, medium or low to your listening preferences. I always favor running VTL and Manley amps in triode mode but again, you can easily switch to tetrode to suit your tastes. Compared to those ARC monoblocks, any of these 3 amps will blow your mind 👍

The AGD Gran Vivace doesn’t use silicon MOSFETs. They use gallium nitride FETs which allows much faster switching than can be achieved with silicon devices.
@MichaelM-to4sg
@MichaelM-to4sg 10 месяцев назад
@@daniel77455 The AGD gain circuit within glass “tube” is certainly a mosfet. Have you ever seen an AGD amp or the gain device? I assume you can easily identify a mosfet from a binary fet. As for its materials, I’m pretty certain that’s polysilicon gated mosfet The dielectric is gallium nitride deposits. This makes sense from a production standpoint as fabrication tooling is relatively standard. The primary advantage of the gallium nitride dielectric is much improved efficiency and much greater thermal envelope, resulting in good power w/o a multitude of gain devices or stages. This also keeps the circuit extremely simple while also maintaining low distortion.

Jay you hit the nail on it's head 💥 the 160M's are the weakest link period👍 you know what you're talking about ✅💯🎶 I've modified the Ref 6 and other stuff and believe me,the mono's are just not made for dynamics and punch 👊👊👊 They perform fantastic with other brands but not in this set. You are just spot on 💥💯 Keep up the great work Jay.

"Pre Darryl" Wilson Audio, just wasn't that good, in my opinion. Especially for the money.

*I haven't had chance to listen to Wilson or Magico, but with Magico their engineering is all latest tech, so was wondering how they compared on a similar dollar basis etc,,,*
