Wilson was working on the Clash line of racquets for around five years and they really set the bar high. I quote from their Clash info page: “Wilson LABS set out with an audacious goal: make a racket that renders all other rackets obsolete." Is the hype true? Is this truly a #racketrevolution?

Hi coming from a pure strike 16x19 (2019), i would like ti change with the clash 98 or 100 cause i need to solve my constant arm problems and the clash giving up some problems seems like a good opportunity with the amazing balance and low stiffness. I can opt for the 100? Or maybe to light?which one do you recommend between the 3 clash? 98/100/100 tour? Many thanks

Jonas, doesn't the weird, asymmetric string pattern on the Clash 100/Tour (densest pattern in upper hoop, less dense in the middle, MUCH more open in the lower hoop) make the launch angle inconsistent? I wonder what Wilson had in mind?... I think you have to hit the same spot on the face very consistently to get a reasonably consistent response from this racquet.

Finally bit the bullet and bought this and all I can think is why didn't I buy it earlier!! It plays like the Babolat pure drive but with so much more control for me, slightly less power and very arm friendly. The pure drive I always had to rein my self in. Same shot dynamics and actually lower string tension and I just hit the lines off both sides. Added a leather grip and added weight at 3, 9, 12 Strung with Diadem Solstice Power 17 at 50lbs

I bought it and have weighted it up to 360 grams strung, and it's nice and comfortable. Comfort is seen a bit as a nice bonus but really its my primary goal. It would be no fun having an arm injury.

I ever played with. But then I changed strings and lowered the tension as recommended, and wow what a feeling , very easy to play with , easy on the arm good control and great spin , it’s really a good Rac. Good racket. I use is since it was released (two months now). When with my former Babolat Pure Drive, strings would break after 8-10 hours of play, they made it 20 hours with the Clash Tour and then I replaced the string although it did not break. In the end, a cheap cost of ownership.

Hello i want to ask if iam going to choose between one of those new clash rackets, whats better for a clay court player with an eastern forehand grip and double handed backhand like me that needs more spin on his shots, and needs more spin serves that suits the nature of clay courts, i want easy access to power and spin and depth. Iam playing now with babolat aeropro drive 300 gm and want to change to a better racket that offers more comfort and feel and stability with almost the same spin and free power that i need for my type of game. Thanks for the review! Awesome as usual! Is this one easier to play than a Ezone 98(305g)? Could you please compare the racket to the Ezone 98?
@a2casius
@a2casius 5 лет назад
From my own experience, with every iteration of the Ezone line, Yonex has sought to "stiffen the hoop" to create a more "point and shoot" experience at the cost of comfort. Even though the Quake shut gel in the handle takes some of the vibrations out, the stiffer hoop gives a harsher feel (see TW review). Wilson Clash goes the exact opposite direction and argues that a flexible hoop provides the much needed comfort and stiffening up the throat section provides much of the control and stability needed to point and shoot. Same aim, but putting comfort first.
5 лет назад
@@a2casius Thanks
@Tennisnerd
@Tennisnerd 5 лет назад
Yes, I would say this one is easier. The Ezone 98 is crisper though and will give you more direct feedback. I personally prefer the Clash, I thought the new Ezone 98 was my least favorite of that line historically.

I used Pure Drive and hit with Pure Aero occasionally. I put the Clash Tour at slightly below PA in power which I believe gives it more control. It plays like a soft version of the PA - much better on your arm- stiffens when you swing fast from low to high, but also flexes on shots that come at you with heavy pace and on slices and volleys.

I would really like to know what this frame does that a Prince Phantom doesn't provide, except for the insane level of marketing verbiage and the 30% higher price tag. Also, with Wilson's infamous level of QC, I'd expect the actual frames to vary as much as 10g around the stated weight.
@Tennisnerd

It plays a bit more stable and with a bigger sweet spot. The Clash is quite easy to use, you get pretty good depth without trying too hard. The Prince Phantom line requires more from the user. About flat shots, it's not a spin-friendly racquet, even though it has a 16x18 string pattern, so if you usually play flat-ish, it will do exactly that. @Tennisnerd
@Tennisnerd 5 лет назад
Thanks. Hmm...this is quite far from an Ultra Tour, but it is muted like the Countervail tech, but I still prefer the feedback from the Clash. I would say it plays more like a Wilson Ultra 100 CV, but with 10 pts lower RA, more arm comfort and a plusher response, but the same stability and power.

I play with a weighted up ultra tour due to arm issue from my old pro staff K factor. It has been very nice on my arm and I appreciated the precise and solid feel. But there is no free power and limited spin. I’ve been playing with all 3 versions of the clash the last couple days and it is nothing like my ultra tour. Clash has much more spin, much easier power, and fees more “plush” on contact. Still having trouble with drop shots and backhand with the clash, but my serve and forehands feel significantly more powerful and spinny.

Hi Jonas, good info as always. The million dollar question...do you prefer Clash 100, Clash 100 Tour or Head 360+ Speed MP? I assume you will say the Speed MP because of the better feedback on shots due to the 360+ spiral fibers.

I was using a Pro Staff 97 but hit too many balls into the tape. The launch angle just demanded more leg work then my lazy body was willing to give shot after shot. Switched to the Pure Strike. Way more power, so much so that I can't go back to the pro staff. Solved the launch angle problem but i struggle with mid court balls (too much power) and elbow issues that I've never experience before. Question on the clash tour. The biggest complaint I found was difficulty to volley. Tennisnerd, in the video you seemed to volley just fine and you recommend the racket as a doubles stick (for its low swing weight, i think). Did you notice any issues with volleying? Did you hit touch volleys as well as firm put away volleys? Thanks for the review! Also, what would you say your average net clearance is? Seems pretty high.
@Tennisnerd
@Tennisnerd 5 лет назад
I liked it from everywhere on the court, but I did struggle to dial in touch volleys. I am sure it is a matter of time spent on court, but the muted feel takes longer time to get used to. The net clearance, in general, is definitely high. It is very easy to achieve depth with it.

Finally got round to testing this racquet. Not sure what to make of it. The feel is definitely different - stiffens up with harder shots, softens with soft ones. Very open 16x19 pattern, not necessarily the most control orientated in terms of precision but it does produce easy spin / depth if you hit it right. A bit similar to a Head Speed MP but softer feeling. I think I'm going to wait for the 98 - hopefully that will have a slightly denser 16x19 pattern which is my preference.

You can hit flat shots with this kind of power/spin racket by simply installing "control" strings that are less elastic than average, then dialing down the tension to about 50 lbs. This allows you to hit controllable flat shots with good power, while also letting you whip angle shots with spin when needed.

They are quite different racquets. The Pure Strike is stiffer and offers better directional control. Power is similar, the Clash gives a bit more spin and a higher launch angle. @Tennisnerd
@Tennisnerd 5 лет назад
The VCORE will give you more control, but I think that one plays better with some lead tape. For doubles, this one will give you easy depth and point and shoot ability. The spin can easily get the ball to dive down to your opponent's feet. But ultimately, like with all things around tennis racquets, it is a matter of taste.

45lbs - this tech is great for lower tensions - better ball pocketing and comfort IMO. I tried higher and it's way too stiff. The frame stiffens when you swing fast and flexes on slices, volleys, etc. That's why they call it the Clash - it is stiff AND flexible, which was unheard of in the past.

The Speed Pro 360 has a lower launch angle, is crisper, more controlled, but requires more from the user. I loved the 360 Pro, but my wrist did not like it as much with a full poly. The Clash is more comfortable and spin-friendly.
@LarzB
@LarzB 5 лет назад
@@Tennisnerd i have the speed pro 360 and i love it. But only with a full poly with much lower tension. I have solinco tour bite at 21 kg. I tried tour bite partially because of your videos and some other reviews. That poly is more rigid than other poly's, so i had to drop the tension with 3 kg to prevent it to be too harsh. At 21kg the speed pro is crisp, but also nice feel. Not like you're playing with a wooden board. Poly strings differ very much in how rigid or soft they feel. I used polyfibre venom rough at 24kg which was good for that string while the tour bite i had to drop 3kg for a similar feel. I do think the clash tour is a very interesting racket. It might give me too much power and i don't like a too high launch angle. I'm going to demo it some day. Just to try it out.

Been playing with this racquet for over 2 months now, I gotta say I really love it. I bought it like 3 days after it came on the market. It is really easy on the wrist and arm and really rewarding if you go big. It also very forgiving because of the large sweet spot. If you do hit the ball dead centre it gives a feeling that no racquet on the market can give atm. I come from a Wilson Pro Staff 97, and never touched that racquet again since I bought the Clash Tour. And as Tennisnerd said, you need to play with a lot of spin. A friend of mine also bought it but really struggled because he hits way flatter than me.
