Nice review. I picked up both the Staccato C and P when they first came out. All I can say is I ended up keeping both. I like the holster that came with the C and feel it carries very well, but at first, aftermarket holster options were slim, especially if you wanted a light bearing one. I find takedown to be super simple. My very first outing I ran 500 rounds ranging everything from 115 up to 165 gr. This gun is crazy accurate for me and honestly surprised me at how nicely it managed recoil. Long story short, if you want it, just buy it and you wont be upset.
I love my Staccato C. Only a few weeks old, I'm approaching 1000 rounds. Shoots any type of ammo. Can use almost any magazine, though I have read some earlier models didn't like some magazines. Even cheaper Metalform mags work fine. The left side thumb safety does tend to dig into the thumb, but a pair of tactical gloves removes the pain, and maybe moving the thumb off the top of the safety will also help. Field stripping is unique; no tiny hole for the paperclip, and the double recoil springs make extracting and reinstalling the guide rod assembly a chore. But the more you field strip the easier it becomes. The Staccato has replaced by 1911 Officer .45acp as my carry gun. And for a "Commander" size pistol it shoots as well as my 5" 1911s.
Great assessment John! I do agree about the disassembly. I’d prefer the little hole in the guide rod. That makes things a lot easier. Thank you and cheers!
John Stanton are you just using the IWB holster that came with the Staccato C, or have you found another holster that will fit it? The rail and the shape of the trigger guard keep it from fitting in any of my other 1911 holsters.
@@HarleyBRider The kydex that came with it is a little hard on the flesh. I took an old IWB Blade Tech 1911 and cut it down. Since is is more rubbery; not so much irritation. I'd like to get a leather holster, but for now the Blade Tech works fine. I also use older Blade Tech 1911 holsters for Browning Hi Powers.
Great review as usual. My LGS has a rental, you made me reserve a lane for tomorrow!! A side note, you do some of the best in depth, unbiased reviews I watch (and I watch a lot before I buy). I cant believe your not well over 100k subs!! I tell all my gun folk about the channel! Keep up the great work.
I do not have any experience with this brand, but enjoy getting your perspective on guns that I don't have experience with as well as the ones that I do.
Nice review of a top shelf gun. The price puts it way outside our budget but you have viewers who can afford. I do believe the 2011 concept has merit especially as polymer and aluminum are being used. Double stack, 1911 trigger and reduced weight - all positives.
It’s definitely an interesting gun, though I prefer other 1911s frankly. I agree that it’s tough on the wallet. There’s probably some cool factor for some in the price? Who knows. The trigger is definitely nice. Thank you and cheers!
Nice review. Thanks. I have 600 rounds through my Staccato C so far. It feeds everything, is wonderfully accurate, and the 2.5 pound trigger is as nice as the trigger on my Nighthawk T4. The biggest problem so far is finding a good OWB holster to fit, as the trigger guard shape and the rail present some challenges. It comes with an IWB holster that is good quality, but I prefer OWB leather. George at One In The Chamber Gear made a very nice holster for me, and Lobo Gun Leather is making another one. Great shooting gun, but not quite enough to replace my Dan Wesson ECO for everyday carry.
That’s awesome! I’m glad you are liking yours. I hear nothing but good things about the DW ECO as well. Hope to try one at some point. Thank yo and cheers!
I have bought 4 holsters from outbags holsters. They make nice holster at a affordable price. Check them out I have been happy with the ones I have. 👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸. Made in the USA.
I've recently picked up a Staccato C2 DPO, and C DPO. I was a big fan of the Wilson EDCX9, but they lagged behind on the threaded barrel and RMR setup. The Staccato DPO is good to go with RMRCC and their limited edition came with a threaded barrel. I shot all three today and quite frankly while the EDC X9 feels the best in the hand, I shoot the Staccato C the best. I want a consistant presentation across my guns now, so I think the C model for concealed and the C2 for range / supprssor work will be the most consistent. Unfortunately I think the EDCX9 is going to have to find a new home.
A work of art, but my shovels don't need gold trim. My used VP9 is shooting dime sized groups at 7yrds. It does look better than Wilson's EDCX9, but both are 1% rich people guns. Great review. Thanks for sharing.
Nice review! My take, I'm sure it shoots great and looks cool, but not enough gun for the money. Capacity, sights, and pain points need to be dehorned out. But to each their own 😁
Not a tough sell for me! Look at some of the other reviews out there and watch the reaction’s of the shooters after they empty their first magazine. They are usually something to the effect of “Wow!“ When you shoot this you know your shooting a next level gun.
Love it, grip safety for my right hand must be mindful how its held but left feels more natural. Called them about the sharp trigger guard and the technician said to sand it down or scrap the edge off and use a little oil on the area after doing so. That fixed the uncomfortable grip edge for me. thanks
I shot the Staccato today. It just so happens that my local range has one in the rental counter. Although it’s very nice, for $1000 less I prefer my Sphinx SDP and I have 17 +1. Thank you so much for the video and cheers!
I have the STI C, as an EDC. Shooting is very pleasant, as you stated POA-POI which is very accurate. it has a bit of a bite when riding high on the grip, but that is ok with me as long as the rounds hit where I want them.
The Staccato P is now out. Double stack. With or without the H.O.S.T. cut for an optic. $1999 and $2499 The WC EDC X9 is around $2895 and you don't get the option for the optic cut. And it's $50 more for ambi safety. Thanks for the review.
WeeeThPpl as a EDC X9 owner I’ll confirm it’s over priced. The way it’s outfitted from Wilson it’s a $2200 gun max. A less refined version could be $1400 all day long. But the size is perfect. I doubt the Staccato P will accomplish that unfortunately.
Just bought the C. Loved everything about it. If someone wants capacity get the P. This was intended for an EDC not a duty firearm. That being said. The red fiber optic that came with mine is bright. I had not problem rapid firing 20 yards two in the chest one in the head. I carry two extra mags $45 a piece. Adjust the trigger and get a crisper shorter break and reset. Yes the slide release is awkward but I have adjusted to releasing the side with my support hand on the reload. The only thing I would change is the slide release. Dawson Precision will be doing milking for customers that want to have an optic plate. Run a couple boxes of +P to loosen the recoil spring and check out the slide. If you think it’s glass now? Is it a $1500 gun..? You bet. IMHO yes it’s the best carry gun. Of course that is up to the person shooting. If you have $600 more to spend and want more upgrades get the DVC Carry HOST. That’s my review on top of your review
I just got done shooting it at Bill's shooter's show up in Minnesota. I tell you what, It's pretty dang accurate for a small gun. It might be my next purchase. A little top heavy (thick I should say) but feels great!
@@hurt1704 Don't be jealous lol. You'll get your day in the sun to shoot it soon. It's pretty cool with the optic cut out for it too! It's got a great trigger on top of that. A little spendy but buy what you really want. I should say rent at the range first, then decide. All these reviews from KS, 1776, or Big Johnson are all subjective and their own opinions. They are great help in steering you one way or another but at the end of the day its your choice my friend.
BloodySoup74 luckily I have shot the x carry and think it's a great gun. I loved it , but once I heard they were coming out with a smaller version, I decided to hold off. Yeah their optics cut is a drawback to me due to not making a plate for trijicon. I think sig needs to stick to making guns and quit trying to push their crappy red dots
I agree about the takedown. I own a STI Guardian in 45 and it is absolutely my best shooter, but the take down is a pain - the little plastic piece will fit in both directions and only one direction will work, it is not marked so it becomes confusing, plus trying to install it with the slide off the frame is a lesson in finger strength trying to compress the spring. But, that being said, I am going to pick up this beauty as STI makes a great gun.
I don't own a staccato yet. I DO own an STI GUARDIAN 45ACP. Regarding your problem with take down. The "two plastic" pieces are really one, and an extra one. Don't use both at the same time. "If" it takes down like mine, (I'm pretty sure it does) when you fit ONE of the inserts, it comes apart and goes together very easy. If you don't use them, you can field strip easily, but putting it back together is a work out for your fingers as you have to over power the dual recoil springs during reassembly.
Hey KS I have an sti marauder and have experienced some similar discomfort while shooting. I adjusted my grip to keeping my strong hand thumb on the safety while shooting. Great video and I look forward to the staccato p review.
I just bought it and went to the range. I also have an Escort and single stack Hex. This a great gun. Not a hiccup with 200 reds. One issue. Very difficult to dro a mag with tactical reload. It will loosen up but grip is thick enough you have to twist pistol radically to reach release. Poor design STI. Love gun but this is a workaround so beware. Amazingly light and dead accurate. Very concealable. Holster included is ok but like other brands better. Glad it came though with accessory rail needs specific holster.
Comments on reviews for any gun over $500 = “It’s overpriced” “It’s a tack driver” Ok, 95% of guns are pretty accurate nowadays. There’s really only a couple guns that directly compare to this gun (The optic ready duo version) So, $1500+ isn’t too bad for an optic ready 1911 9mm.
Wow, that is one delicious pistol brother. As you said, the video probably doesn't do it justice but it sure looks amazing! Hope you are having a great weekend!
Thanks for he review! I’d love to see STI’s double stack carry options reviewed. I have to say that for such a refined gun it’s disappointing that the grip safety is chewing up your first web space. Gorgeous 1911 though.
For an Executive EDC, the Wilson Combat EDC X9 is THE BEST, but also the most expensive, but since we are talking executives here. If I had the money I would not hesitate on the Wilson Combat.
It's inevitable that when you get a new gun you're going to disassemble it at some point. When you do turn on the camera. If you happen to struggle a bit, edit it down to an acceptable time frame. I think it would have been interesting to see a take down of this weapon. Gr8 vid as usual. 🔫
1911 has an all metal lower and came out in 1911. The 2011 is the same design, but has a 2-piece lower where the upper part is metal and the lower part is composite. This lowers the recoil and allows a thinner handle to allow wider magazines and therefore more rounds.
I had a STI rangemaster in 9mm that couldnt go a box of 50 124 fmj when i first got it. New recoil spring fixed that as Long as i kept it clean'ish. Great gun but its a huge price tag
Excellent review, bro! Definitely do a follow-up after you get comfortable with it. I wouldn't worry about the few sharp edges, since it is a carry gun and for the two or three shots you might ever need to defend yourself...who cares. I know you were in a rush to get this out with me and quite a few others, who kept pestering you about it...only cuz, we love your reviews (no one is more detailed)...even STI's own commercial pales by comparison. I know, you don't want to take it down due to RU-vid's Nazi's, but perhaps, a snapshot of the insides? As for price, it's still cheaper than my Dan Wesson Valor (9mm Commander-size). Btw, the 25.6 lb model is reserved for John Wick...press a button and a tripod pops out, the chamber rotates and a .50 BMG barrel extends out....
Thank you Mean! Yeah, a bit of a slip with the 25 pounds, lol. I usually catch that stuff in post. As for the takedown, I just don’t like the dissasembly on this one. It’s truly a pain. I love the John Wick reference!! Priceless. Cheers brother!
Awesome video🇺🇸🕺🏿Did you have to take the slide off to clean the grease off the gun before shooting it❓Heard it wouldn't shoot well if you don't clean the grease off pretty good.
For me, I think it seems like a nicely made gun that shoots well out of the box, but the price point for a defensive gun is high. A Glock 19, Sig or M&P are priced better for defensive carry guns. $1,400 is pricey to lose in a defensive shooting investigation should that ever happen. I have two identical G19’s with the same sights for defensive purposes so if I had to hand one over to LEO for investigation purposes, I still have one. But that’s just me. For competitive shooting, $1,400 makes more sense. Even spending money on a good 1911, I would not have a problem but just not for purely defensive use. Good review as always
I won't joke on the weight, same as a B.A.R. rifle! LOL.... From appearance it reminds me of a CZ 2075 Rami BD except the trigger. I don't think capacity is an issue for me, though some guys will whine about it. 8 rounds of 230 gr .45 A.C.P. equals 16 rounds of 9 mm in bullet weight so properly placed shot matters, just guys that need 16 rounds can't properly place their shots and need 16 rounds. If you need more than 2 hits with a .45 a.c.p. then 4 rounds from a 9 mm isn't going to be any better IMHO. Oh yeah! as always.... Great review! Mumble,Mumble capacity.....LOL
I have only one 1911 and it is an STI Ranger II in 45ACP. Got it new many years ago and I will never let it go. I don't carry a 1911 so this will never be an option for me. I do love a nice 1911, but I believe it should be in 45.
This gun looks amazing and STI makes excellent stuff. However, for the capacity you get with the STI it is kind of low. If one wants to carry SAO, the P01 Omega with the safety installed gives you double the capacity. Now the Staccato P has my interest!
This gun is not difficult to disassemble. All you have to do is line up the take down pin with the cut out in the slide and then pop the take down pin out.
Ambi-safety is a deal-breaker for me on a carry weapon. Too easily bumped OFF when carrying at 5 O'Clock. Also, $1500 is too much to spend on a single-stack pistol. I'd prefer to spend an extra $800 and go for the Wilson EDC X-9 for an "executive" carry pistol (although not a "true" 1911). I have the "P" version of this STI pistol and its an amazing range toy!!
I’ve been looking for something new to carry and that looks great but for a 2011 I expected higher capacity, considering the size anyways. Not a fan of ambi safeties on 1911s either so the search continues You mentioned your struggle while on the range, it’s frickin awesome when you shoot so many different firearms you get to complain about that stuff ain’t it? I buy all the time and even a bad range day with 1 firearm, doesn’t mean it’s bad with all the others. Just make sure to take a shadow 2 along or something else super accurate to get that confidence back
Yeah, the capacity is more mainstream for 1911s on this one. As for the shooting, not everyday can be on point, lol. The Shadow 2 will definitely be out soon! Thank you and cheers Rooster!
I love my 4.25” and 5” 1911’s, and I do carry them. For me, the ultimate “1911” carry pistol in 9mm, is the Sig P938. It’s very small, and very accurate.
I just picked up the Range officer elite Champion and love it!! Group size is similar to these! Only difference is the Springfield has a 6 o'clock hold.. me personally I don't see paying $1000 more for the staccato.. I'll stick with my RO Elite Champion
sweet pistol, I just cant justify carry guns being more than $500-700 too many other good options out there in that range of price plus always the chance it might be confiscated if you had to use it in self defense.
So I ended up trading the Staccato C back in. It's not fun to shoot if you have big hands. You were right about those grooves. Attempted to have a lower purchase but didnt do much good. I'll get the P later down the road .
It’s really too bad. I wanted to love that gun but just couldn’t. Glad to hear I’m not the only one who found the ergos to be less than ideal. Thank you for sharing and cheers Kevin!
Great review! Been waiting for one for this baby, even though I already bought it lol just haven't shot it. If you get your hands on the staccato P please review because that's going to be my next purchase!
in todays market there are so many reliabe handguns to choose from for under $500. (and several under $400. from Turkey, Itay, etc.) I can not see these hi-end guns doing very well in sales in todays economy. Unless you are the type of person that thinks more $$$$ means better ? And I am sure some will say - "would you really trust your life on those lower priced pistols" ? my answer to that is - absolutely ! Most of the people I know can not afford a $1,500. hand gun. You can buy 3 good guns for that price, 1 for your home, 1 for your vehicle, and one for your waistband. Now, for a long gun (rifle) I'm willing to dig a little deeper.
