Was fitted by my club pro at Kinross GC for the Dynapower Forged.,,,, (My old irons were Cobra Aerojet) Was out this morning 7am for the first time with the new irons. The feel is soft, compared to my old irons, higher ball flight thou STOPS fast on the greens. Now have confidence of firing into the green and know its going to stop, with the 8. to GW.. Have now taken the SM9 49 wedge out of the bag,,, Took a bit of getting used to a thicker top line,, smile on your coupon with the soft feel you get, deffo worth the money,,, and and club pro was £100 cheaper than American Golf,, always good to support your club pro
Hi fishcatcherfleas! That sounds awesome! I'm sure I've seen your name in my comments before and asked you this but Kinross GC as in home of the Montgomery and Bruce? If so that's right round the corner from where my parents now live! I've been in the clubhouse but not played the courses yet! Plan to later this year, weather permitting! All the best!
@@weekendtourpros it is indeed sir.. Played the Bruce this morning as wanted an easy ride with the new irons ,, Monty on club comp sunday ,, let me know when your up this way,, we can have a round on anyone of the 2 courses
Thanks for the review Luke. I did an iron demo last year where I tested the D9 forged. I suspect they're pretty much the same as these Dynapower forged irons. The D9 forged were a fantastic iron, especially for the price. Unfortunately, they didn't go in my bag. I haven't found anything yet to kick my Callaway Apex CF16s out the bag. I find my irons to be unicorn irons as I've tried every Apex release and they can touch my CF16s. I need to find something soon though as the CF16s are now 8 years old 😱
The grooves are starting to get pretty worn 😢 I'm sure I could look for another set of CF16s in better condition but it would be nice to find a new set. If you have any recommendations for irons I should try please let me know.
Hi Gary! I never got to test the D9 but they had a great reputation so good to hear you confirm that from your testing! Also, I think it’s great that you trust your current irons so much still! When you find a club you love it’s hard to part with them - you see the same with Tour Pros, so many have this one club in their bag they refuse to give up in their club deal or an old faithful they still play! So you’re not alone! Hope you’ve had a good week too pal! 👍🏼
100% agree John! If you’re looking for a forged iron but don’t want to pay forged iron prices - these are well worth a hit! Thanks for watching another video - I really appreciate the support! 👍🏼
I hear you Spod! We are strange at times as humans aren’t we? I’m convinced if Rory or Tiger played them so many people would! I think people think there must be something wrong with them because they are cheaper! But hopefully reviews like mine help put that to bed! Wilson are a massive brand in so many sports for a reason! 👍🏼
Not really. I just bought a set of Dynapower forged irons and I did so specifically because they're cheaper and I didn't want to spend above a certain amount on my new iron set.
Really appreciate your review given your average golfer swing speed that makes your data and results more relevant for me. But everyone on RU-vid who is testing these really likes them regardless of swing speed.
Hi John! Thanks for watching and your kind words! I think with any review there’s a mixture of subjectivity (looks, feels, sounds and enjoyment) and objectivity (the numbers, cost vs. the market) and I think with what I’ve seen the Wilson’s are objectively excellent and subjectively to my taste and it seems many others! If I was building a second bag tomorrow to keep at a family members, I’d be buying Wilson and Cobra almost exclusively. Great value and fantastic performance! All the best! 👍🏼
You can hear the excitement in your voice. Are you going to game them? My brother went to AG with unlimited budget, planned on getting the new ping, walked out with the standard dynapower, inc driver. He loves them
Hi Matt! Thank you so much for watching! Sadly I’ve only got the 7 iron for testing! However I keep debating whether to build a second bag to leave at my parents in Scotland to save space and cost when travelling and the thing that’s put me off is the cost vs usage (especially if I want to film and take all that equipment too), however after testing these irons I was tempted again! So it’s a possibility! As for the DynaPower driver - the review of that lands next week and it’s seriously impressive! So based on my testing your brother has made some great choices! Cobra and Wilson are as good as anything out there but just 20-30% cheaper! All the best! 👍🏼
mmmm you have me very intrigued in these irons nice review well done i'm 59 years old and an 8 handicap these may just be the next irons i get currently i have the Taylormade Stealths again well done Luke cheers from Vulcan Canada
Hi Golf Addict! It’s been a while since I tested the Stealth, but I think you’d find that the DynaPower Forged give you a bit more feedback, softer feel and maybe a bit more spin than the Stealth’s but that the Stealth might naturally offer a bit more launch and distance, so definitely depends what you’re looking for in your next set! I’ve really enjoyed my move to a set of forged irons! Have a great weekend! 👍🏼
Hi Roger! I never got the chance to test the D9 irons sadly but so many people told me they were, like most Wilson clubs, quietly brilliant! So your comment is not a surprise! Have you tried the Wilson drivers? I’ve also filmed the DynaPower driver, which lands next week on the channel and that’s equally as impressive! Wilson are doing a brilliant job at the moment! All the best! 👍🏼
Love that! I tested the Carbon and was so impressed - especially knowing the more forgiving Titanium option (that’s more suited to me!) was still out there!
Hi Blackheart! I’ve tested lots of premium spinnier balls on my channel and they all cost me distance! Check them out! I’m just naturally a low spin player with my delivery and speed and I’m working to improve that! 👍🏼
Hi, been looking for some forged irons, its come down to p790, dynapower forged or cobra tec forged. I shoot 98-104 but im having lessons and my ball striking is improving. Which would you recommend the most for forgivness? I like the look of them all but just not sure.
Hi Josh! Thanks for watching and for your question! Sadly I’ve not tested the Cobra Tec Forged so can’t comment on them (although I do love Cobra irons more generally!). Out of P790 and Dynapower I think forgiveness is similar but the P790 feel a bit more solid which perhaps gives them the feeling of being a bit more forgiving… Honestly if I was building a second bag tomorrow it would be one of those two irons I’d pick from and I’d struggle to choose… my heart leans towards P790 slightly (mainly slightly preference for the looks) and my head (best value) leans towards DynaPower! I’m really sorry that doesn’t give you a definitive answer but I think it’s my way of saying I think both are great options and you can’t make a bad decision! All the best! 👍🏼
Nice review. I’m a 13.8 hcp and I have JPX921 Forged which I Love when I am playing well. When I am not I wonder if a club with more forgiveness would help. How did you find forgiveness vs your 923 Forged?
Hi Anthony! Thanks for watching! I wouldn't say I found them to be any more forgiving than my JPX923 Forged and in many ways found both clubs to feel and perform very similar (which is huge credit to the Wilson's at their price point!). It sounds like you're at a similar level to me where you're battling feel/playability on good days with forgiveness on your off days - and it's a tough balancing act isn't it?!? All the best with your journey and I hope that helps!
Thanks Ross! A really enjoyable one to film when you get on this well with the club! Seriously impressed by these irons for their price point! Also really cool to get my hands on a club before it’s released! A cool little milestone for my channel! 👍🏼
Wilson irons are very underrated. Irons have always been good but woods & hybrids not as good. Think Dynapower coming out last year has changed this as seem to perform as good as anything else. Just think price of golf clubs now is ridiculous, Wilson & Cobra fly under the radar I feel as they're a lot cheaper than the Taylormades, Callaways etc
just added the wilson D9 forged to my bag....exchanged them for the cobra forged tec one length cant compliment the wilson irons enough......it just shows cost does not compromise quality😊😊😊😊
Hi Jimmy! Thanks for watching and sharing your own experiences with Wilson clubs! You are absolutely spot on about the quality vs price! Totally agree! 👍🏼
Hey, Luke. Your channel popped up for the first time on my feed. Good review. I've been a Wilson fan boy since the early 90s. The Dynapowers look sweet, but I'll be hanging on to my D9s for a couple more seasons 😊
Hi Jay! Firstly thank you for being willing to click on the video and give my channel a go! I never got to test the D9’s but my gut feeling from what I’ve read and heard is the DynaPower are more evolution than revolution so I definitely understand why you wouldn’t upgrade! I’ve tested a lot of Wilson on my channel lately and fallen in love with them! Performance vs Price I think they are up there with Cobra as the best value brands! Have a great weekend! 👍🏼
Thanks Pete! I totally agree with you! I think them and Cobra have so much to offer at their price point! I’ve already filmed the driver too and it’s super impressive too! That’ll land next week! Hope you’re having a nice weekend!
Great review Luke as usual. Your excitement about these irons is understandable. I don't like the chunky monkey look, but I could live with the performance. These must be the best bang for the buck clubs of the major manufacturers out there. Glad to see Wilson rising to the top once again. Looking forward to the driver review.
Great review Luke, the most underrated brand in the industry. Wilson need to step their marketing and get another top player like Harrington and Woodland.. in the meantime most people will go for brand snobbery and continue to be fleeced but I’ve come to the conclusion that consumers 8n the UK love to pay premium prices. In the meantime I shall be investing in some new Wilson clubs.
Hi Seve Sellors! Thank you for watching and for your kind comment. I absolutely hear you and agree. I talk a lot on my channel about how great value Wilson and Cobra clubs are! I think you’ve hit the nail on the head - Wilson don’t appear to invest in the (top level) tour pro contracts and marketing but like you say Padraig still using many of their clubs and playing as well as ever and Woodland won his US Open using them! I always say to people, there’s a reason they’ve been around so long and are so big in so many sports - because they are good! 👍🏼
Got a used set but only a couple of hits on a few of the irons so essentially new set of the forged dynapwr for $611 5-GW - nice deal. Can't wait to take 'em out!
Hi Paulie! Yes, you are absolutely spot on! Almost identical to my custom fit, £500 more expensive irons that I’ve had for 6 months+! Worth noting during my fitting the Mizuno’s were the absolute best we could find for me - and I’ve got near identical numbers out of the Wilson straight off the rack, having never hit them before! I think that’s incredible! Thanks for watching my video and for your comment! All the best! 👍🏼
Hi Ron! Thanks for watching! That’s exactly what my channel is about - a real golfer with a mid handicap and an average swing speed testing equipment! All the best! 👍🏼
Haha love that Swieri2003! To be honest that must put me in the fool category because I’m certainly not a pro and don’t like to be flashy! Haha! To be fair, I think if these were out when I bought new irons I would have 100% considered them! They are excellent value for money! 👍🏼
Hi MrMatthew! I sadly never got a chance to test the D9’s but I know they were well respected and loved so my gut feeling would be evolution not revolution. I can just confirm that I really enjoyed them and would happily game them in an instant! Sorry I can’t help much more! 👍🏼
I've been playing the Dynapower titanium driver and the 3, 5, & 7 woods for a year now and I absolutely love them. Last week I demo'ed the Dynapower forged iron and I was shocked how good they are. It may be time to bring in the Wilson irons to keep company with my woods.
Hi ES! Honestly I’ve fallen in love with all of the Wilson products I’ve tested recently! The driver and woods you’re using are awesome and these irons were just incredible! I’ve still got the wedge to film and can’t wait to see how that performs too! Glad I’m not alone and that your demo of these irons was good too! Thanks for watching! 👍🏼
Love your review of the Wilson Dynapower Forged irons. I was already considering these irons and your remarks have me wanting to hit them at my local golf store. I love that you’re a moderate swing speed golfer that makes it a lot more meaningful to me a slower swing speed player. Thanks so much and keep p the good work. BTW, would love to see a review on the new Ping I530 irons and may be how they compare to these Wilson Dynapower Forged.
Thanks Rick! That’s really kind of you! I’m aiming to film my review of the Ping i530 in the next couple of weeks so that’ll be on the channel some point soon! All the best! 👍🏼
Luke, I’m looking at choosing between the Wilson Dynapower Forged irons and the Mizuno JPX 923 Forged Irons. I know you had already chosen the Mizunos before you got a chance to hit the Dynapower Forged. In the US; I am seeing that they’ve dropped the price of the Mizunos so the price is comparable to the the Dynapower Forged. I want to ask this question. With everything being equal according to price, which irons would you choose? The only thing that comes up as a difference maker is that I would make an educated guess that the Mizunos might tend to have a higher value in the resale market. I would like to get your thoughts since you are infinitely familiar with both irons.
@ricklott6037 Hi Rick! Now that is a tough question! If the prices were identical I’d probably go for the Mizuno but my sole reason is looks only… I love the feel of both and think in the right setup both would perform identical for me but I personally prefer the looks of the Mizuno ever so slightly and that’s more to do with me preferring a matte finish on golf clubs over a shinier finish… although the negative to my Mizuno’s is despite me always cleaning them they do tend to look a tad dirtier than I think the Wilson’s would and that’s probably my only long term review criticism of the Mizuno’s. What I would say is that does speak volumes for how highly I rate the Wilson’s… also not to throw a curveball in but spoiler alert for this weeks video is I’ve tested the new Ping i530 irons in this category and they were seriously impressive and felt a lot better than previous Ping irons - they are a tad pricier though! I hope that’s helped! 👍🏼
