Wilson is probably the most underrated brand out there, despite their pedigree. I think they still have the most major wins in history.

Thank you very much for taking the time to slow the speed of the swing down. I have been looking into the game improvement irons as a gift for a senior player, which all the advertisements talk about these types of clubs being ideal for, especially with the slower swing speeds. I have probably gone through 20 or more videos and online articles for a variety of clubs in this sector, trying to get any sort of feedback, reviews, or data for ~80MPH speed, and came across this which is the first that seems to actually show that sort of data. Right around 7:46 you talk about wanting to test with your normal speed but that's not the point, which I agree with, yet everything I see in this sector for the most part is more above average players doing the testing with those normal speeds, and then trying to scale down the results. Long story short, thank you for taking the time to slow down the swings.

Thanks Matt, appreciate your kind comment. I regularly try to do the reviews for specific equipment at the swing speed they are designed for. More releases coming soon so make sure you subscribe so you don't miss out on them 👍🏻👍🏻

Thank you for slowing down your swing speed. I get a better understanding of performance compared to the other pros on RU-vid hitting 7-irons up to and over 200 yards. Hitting terrible is good as that is how a majority of high handicap golfers hit. Good to see the forgiveness. I still use the Titleist 718 AP3. Probably time for new clubs. Assessing these and the T-350, ZX 4 MK2, 923 Hot Metal, and PXG Gen 6 0311 XF. I use Hybrid for 6-5. Thank you.

Got a set of these custom fitted after a 15 year absence from golf. They are great, i love them, they are really helping me with distance and forgiveness. They were the obvious choice from my fitting. The numbers didn't lie and they look great. Good review I thought.

You make incredibly sensible points as in your comment around minute 14 about strong lofts enabling one to maintain normal gaps, not just chase max distance. I am looking at these irons and also the D-9s, for my 50 year old son who wants to pick golf up again. Along with other options like the Takomo 101s. Thinking regular flex would be best, but hope he can find a pro at a range near where he lives to if not do an actual detailed fitting, at least measure his swing speed to be sure. And watching this video as well as a few others who address the issue of age and swing speed, I definitely realize that I would no doubt benefit from these irons. I am 82, have played for over 60 years, as mentioned previously. For decades I have played solid forged blades with traditional lofts, and still do. 34 degree 7 iron. I just like the look and feel. But as I have been making almost daily use of the practice bays with Foresight GC Hawk launch monitors at the PGA Superstore near me and can see hard data about my swing with every club (except for club speed which these monitors don't register) and the distances I hit with each, it seems increasingly clear I should switch to clubs like these or one level up with say a 30.5 degree 7 iron. I think of my 7 iron as a 130+ yard carry club. 10 years ago it was 140, and 25 years ago 150. Now I get a carry that ranges from as low as 124 with a ball speed of 91.5 on not so good hits, to 133 carry total 143 with 95.6 ball speed, 24.3 launch, 4539 backspin, height 77 feet, descent 44.3. And once in a while I have carried up to 140 with an absolutely perfect swing. I think of my gaps for average carries as being 10 yards: 110 with 9 iron, 120 with 8, 130 with 7, 140 with 6, 150 with 5 and 160 with 4 iron. However, this year I have begun to replace the 5 iron with a 24 degree 9 wood that will carry 150-155, and my 4 iron with a 21 degree 7 wood that I use to carry 165-170. However, having said all this, I also can find that the gaps between my 7, 6 and 5 irons have often been closer to 8 yards than 10, which is the issue you address here. I suppose I could rework my entire bag by replacing my forged blades with a set of irons like these and might have a better setup for the next few years. But I am on a pension with limited budget, so even at these very reasonable prices, there are budget constraints. And I have recently found that another solution is to move up from the 6400 tees to the 5950 tees where par 4s run from 339 to 378 except for one of 410 yards. This allows me, given my average 215-235 yard drive, to use my irons instead of fairway woods on second shots. I can always go back if I want to work on 7w and 5W approaches, but it's refreshing to play combinations of clubs closer to what a scratch or low single digit player would use.

Interesting, I have a slow swing speed and got fitted for Hot Metal HL irons which I love, based on wanting higher spin and descent angle. I think however I'm losing out on distance quite a bit from this review!

The High Launch irons work really well for slow swingers of the clubs. If you are anywhere near the 75mph area I'd stick with your original choice 👍🏻

What fantastic irons for the target market. As people always say Wilson do make brilliant irons but getting a fit can be an issue. Look forward to the CB and MB irons. What would be interesting is to know what percentage of your golf club purchase is for the marketing that includes sponsored players.

FYI: Dick’s Sporting Goods provides fittings for these irons. Some of the fitters are surprisingly knowledgeable and competent. Others are not so good. At least worth considering…

Maybe not on price though 🙂 but yep if the budget allows then always go with the best option. I do feel that Wilson offer and increasingly helpful iron range with a lower budget golfer in mind 👍

Hi Jay hope your well , im a senior with a club speed of 75mph with a 7 iron just wondering with a senior shaft would the 7 iron in the dynapower launch higher and have a better decent angle to your shots at that speed with a steel shaft thanks
@AskGolfNut
@AskGolfNut 5 месяцев назад
Hi Joe, how you swing individually compared to me will have the biggest factor in how the clubs will perform than the change of shaft. For example if you are someone that delivers more dynamic loft than me then your launch angle will be higher etc etc, the change to a graphite shaft will or may assist in additional height compared to mine, but if you are someone that delivers less dynamic loft than me, the change to a graphite shaft is kind of irrelevant as its the swing that's the dominating factor. If that makes sense? 👍🏻 👍🏻

What's more suitable for a high handicap player - the Dynapower or D9 or D9 forged?
@AskGolfNut
@AskGolfNut 8 месяцев назад
Hi, to answer that question I'd need much more information... Strike tendencies, club head speed, club delivery in general and patterns. Ball patterns (peak height, descent angles etc), as club choice should be made of requirements, e.g forgiveness requirements along with head speed etc etc.... Anyone that answers that question without asking many more is either trying to sell you something or is massively generalising I'm a world on very individual golfers 👍🏻 👍🏻
@FatTony444
@FatTony444 8 месяцев назад
@@AskGolfNut I really don't know the answer to those questions. I used to play when I was in my 20s and 30s. Now looking to get back into playing but I'm nearly 60. I guess I'm just looking for forgiveness and value as a whole set of golf gear is certainly adding up!
@AskGolfNut
@AskGolfNut 8 месяцев назад
@FatTony444 it certainly does and it doesn't take long to mount up quickly. I would say absolutely yes to forgiveness but due to the string lofts really they are only for a slow to medium swing speed player 👍🏻

I wouldn’t touch Wilson golf clubs with a barge pole. Ordered a custom set of Wilson Dynapower irons via American Golf. On collection, I immediately went to the driving range next door to AG to try them out. A few shots in, I was using the 5 iron and, on the backswing, the head flew off and hit the wall behind me. Luckily no one was walking along the gangway at the time else there could have been a fatality. That evening, I was inspecting the rest of the new clubs and discovered that the head on the pitching wedge was also loose and could easily be pulled off! To their credit, AG have been brilliant and immediately offered me an alternative brand of more expensive irons at no additional cost to me. Wilson, however, have been a different story - hard to contact, slow to respond, and not particularly interested in my complaint, the hassle I’ve been put through and my experiences as a customer. The clubs Wilson delivered to me were unfit for purpose and potentially lethal and I will not buy Wilson again

I've bought several Wilson sets and have resold them to others. Never had or heard of an issue. I wouldn't just Wilson on the bad set you got. Were these kept in a hot area for a matter of time? Ever heard of people keeping their clubs in a trunk in a hot day? To me, this sounds like Taylormade and their cracked heads. Those issues are bound to hit someone you know. However, the manufacturer should be easy to talk to and get the issue resolved if you bought from an official retailer and have your receipt.

I have a question: Tell us please WHO is NOT a “game improvement” player?
@AskGolfNut
@AskGolfNut 4 месяца назад
We all want to improve, and we all have different wants for the equipment we play. Objectively the chances are that on miss hits I would be better not playing my shiny blades but on balance, the enjoyment I get from looking and using them is the justification for not potentially performing at my very best. We all like this game for different reasons, I guess thats why manufacturers make so many different types of product 🙂👍
