Wilson keeps improving their line up each time they release a new product and the Staff forged iron is no different. See how it performed, then changes and my opinion of the new iron from Wilson Golf
Posting from Kitchener, Ontario Canada, home of the legendary ball striker Moe Norman. Season's greetings. Super review. Thank you so much for strengthening the loft 2 degrees and testing it out to make sure it didn't mess with the turf interaction. Given that the standard lofts of these clubs are quite high the adjustment would put them right in line with many of the competitors, but at a much more reasonable price. When you change out the shafts to your gamer the KBS graphite please do another testing video and share the data and your analysis about the playability and feel with graphite. Always learn so much from your videos. Be well and be safe.
Would love Wilson to bring back the red & black “Firestick” graphite shafts that you could get on the old Staff 45 irons! Would be awesome with these new Staff models.👍🏻
Great review, couldn’t agree more when it comes to feel. You know exactly what the ball is going to do as soon as you strike it. Phenomenal irons. First set of Wilson’s I’ve ever had. Moving over from Miura/PXG blades. Certainly more forgiving then both
I’ve been looking at these for a couple of years but the retro lofts are not my thing. Is a 3 degree stronger bend too much? Will it dramatically change the bounce?
I’ve always wanted a set of Wilson Staff forged irons. I might have to break down a buy a set. I don’t think they will fit my game because I simply don’t play enough to improve to that level of play. But DANG! Those are sweet looking irons!!
Wilson has come up with great clubs in the last year. I play with the D9's irons and hybrids now and I absolutely love them. For me, at this point, hitting 205yards with a hybrid wasn't possible. Well it is now with the D9's. They make it possible for me to get to the green in 2 shots on an average par 5. I understand Wilson did amazing R&D work with their most recent line of clubs and it pays off for us on the course. And the price point for such quality products is amazing. I have the Mitsubishi Tenseï shafts on them, good grips, they look good, feel good... I am totaly pleased.
Have you ever taken a set apart and measured the individual components, first measure swingweight, measure frequency progression, then measure clubhead weights and shaft weights? Had a set of custom Wilson irons years ago. Nothing in that set was consistent. Horrible quality control/construction.
Hi Jim.Love your Vids.I've had and played quite a few irons .I've played around 50 sets.I've got some wilson Staff FG43 Blades and they are beautiful. I believe they are the only set ever made. They have a thread in the hosel but the thread is the wrong way.No problem I just glued some steel shafts and they played nice.my quezstion is;should a golf club head be light if you wanted to have graphite shafts installed. I've removed the steel shafts and put them back in my mp37s.I've got some new graphite shafts and my grips have just arrived.but will the heads be too heavy for regular graphite shafts. Thanks Regards David.
Hi Jim, Great review and so detailed. Would these irons be out of the range of a 9 handicapper? Would there be enough forgiveness to warrant buying them or should I look for something else? Thanks
Merry Christmas from So California! Nice review. Q: Playing the Maltby ST2 right now, but looking for something with a little narrower sole. Would this fit a sweeper? Played V6 before this and loved them. 😎
Wilson makes good looking - and apparently good performing - clubs. It always surprised me that their red C300 driver didn't get more popular with better golfers. It has a center of gravity near the face which makes it swing more like an iron. Supposedly the farther the COG is from the face the easier the driver is to hit, but I have never found that to be true. When I worked at PGA Tour Superstore I could hit the C300 at least as far as any model of any other brand. And it was easy to hit straight.
Nice looking club that Jim. Topline and offset just a tad too much for me when compared to my '08 Cobra Pro MB's or the holiday set of FG-51's I leave at my Brothers in Phoenix. I quite like the 'Fluid Feel' bore through in them too 😉 It'll be interesting should Wilson introduce another set of true blades...if theyre as good as their previous efforts they may well find a way into my bag 😉
@@McGolf I've not looked at Wilson for years Jim, so I couldnt be sure😯 The last irons I seriously looked at were the Callaway Apex MB (18's). Beautiful bits of kit that tempt me every time I come across them on eBay...
I've been a Wilson fan my whole life , no more , not since I've found out that the Chinese bought them, but I do have some Commie Red Chinese Duo optix that I'll be hitting with EXTREME VIOLENCE .
I would disagree on needing to be an elite player with a 200yd 7 iron. My Staff V6s are very easy to hit. The bevelled leading edge and rounded sole is fantastic for turf interaction. Helps me get clean contact. Very accurate even on marginal swings. I get about 170 on the 35* 7 iron with soft stepped Dynamic Gold S300. Saying that, if you need the the distance, maybe the Staff C300 Forged instead? Different tool for different job.
