The amazing thing about this is how at the beginning the audience are distinctly uninterested and yet by the time he’d finished they were begging for more - that’s a true performer! Hats off to Cliff!

To sing unaccompanied like that is fantastic, especially as it was absolutely impromptu. Not a duff note anywhere. Sir Cliff so deserves his National Treasure status.

Yes, dashingwomble, you're right not many people can just get up & entertain a crowd & w/o even a guitar to accompany him, maybe for someone who's a beginner & wanting to be known will take the advantageof the big crowd. Sir Cliff is really a Nat'l. treasure.

I watched this live. But it never ceases to amaze me how capable and amazing cliff is at singing live, yet almost everything you online is him miming. Such a talented man yet mimes at every opportunity.
Seemed the audience weren't too impressed to begin with, they don't know a living legend when they see one, until the bug began to affect them and they paricipated. How many can say they were at Wimbledon and see Cliff in concert too. He sure made a memorable occasion. Takes some courage to sing like that, a real performer and one of the best to come out of the UK.
I was 12 watching live on tv...didnt know him them neither follwed the words as English was not my mother tongue. My uncle and elder brother told me about the iconic singer. But i remembered how wonderstruck i was by his voice and energy...later as i grew up i started listening to him and he's such an inspiration. Love you Cliff
I remember watching the tennis when it rained and Cliff Richard sang to entertain the crowd.. He was my pop idol in the 60's, so I thoroughly enjoyed his kind gesture here.. What a man!
A true artist. How he engaged the crowd along the way was sublime. An actually artist and musician! I could count on half a finger the number of musos out there who could possibly do this today. As for the Ladies who joined in - what Class and Character they showed, Pure Beauty! Ms. AB Fab just a cherry on the top!!! Queens live aid performance was something - this was something else!!! Salute Sir Cliff and Ladies of the WTA who made History and created a rainbow in the middle of the rain!
Remember this well, but hadn't seen it since then. Forgot how good he sang for this rain delay. That's some incredible quality for impromptu live singing without any instrumentals! Better than a lot of proper concerts lol
I will always remember this Wimbledon tournament. there was a terrible lighting thunderstorm up in the Outer Hebrides. Our Home got struck by lightning.
Always came across bit up himself.Tho watched him sing to Sue Barker in 2022 Wimbledon.I had to find this clip.Cant imagine a more up to date singer doing a similar performance.Good bloke.

Cliff Richard is a well known tennis fan. That day he could have sat there like the hundreds of others waiting for the rain to finish but what he did just goes to show the difference between an entertainer and a TRUE entertainer because he knew the hundreds of people will not only be getting wet but bored out of their minds as well so what do he do? what a TRUE entertainer does, he entertained the crowd so they wouldn't be bored wet and miserable waiting for the rain to stop and he did it all of his own doing, he wasn't paid to do it. How many of todays top entertainers would have done the same thing?
Apparently he was asked quietly by management, so he said in his interview with Sue Barker afterwards lol. But I know what you mean, he still had to agree to do it and actually get out there and do it! Not easy when the mood was sombre because of the rotten weather that day.
