As someone who has shopped at both winco and Walmart, the winco shopping experience is much better. Winco stores are always cleaner and better stocked. Additionally the checkout process is much better. They always have a good number of lines open and although you have to bag your own groceries you end up getting out faster because they have a unique dual conveyor belt system at the registers that allow multiple customers to bag at once. Also their prices are unbeatable.

Not in Dallas Texas. The WinCos here still close at 11. I work the night shift and it was so wonderful to be able to shop when I got off of work. My WinCo is not convenient to go to on my off days as its close to work which is not close to home. I now need to shop before going to work and I have to plan on being delayed and I some times show up at work 45 min early because I was in and out fast. Another thing that WinCo is infamous for is placing the prices of items at other grocery stores, and it really shows how they try to have the lowest price possible by adding the prices of items sold at other stores such as Walmart. Some locations also have two carts filled with the exact same items, except one cart has the total price of the items at a competing store, while the other has the price of the items at Winco. A smart strategy if you ask me.

One thing worth mentioning is that one of Winco's biggest strategies for cutting cost is to reduce variety of each individual object. You often won't find 15+ different brands of peanut butter, or shampoo or other staples. They stick with stocking just a few brands of each kind of item, and this really reflects in the savings they're able to pass onto consumers.

Since, my son and some friends have worked for WinCo. I am dedicated customer. Hint: bag your groceries at your trunk! You don't need to bag your groceries in a hurry to try and keep up with the checkout pace. I know that intimidates some older folks? The town I went to college in had both a WinCo and a Walmart. WinCo was where you went to buy all your food and Walmart was where you went to begrudgingly buy all your household goods. The prices were way higher at the Walmart since that's where all the new students from out of town would shop for everything until someone older took them to WinCo. I got to be in a meeting w/Bob Long in Boise about 20 years ago. The way they expand is by areas with larger families. They pull census and other proprietary data, it has to make sense from the distribution center. He has it down to if a shopping cart was stolen how much jars of pickles they’d have to sell. It was something like if one cart is stolen it means we have to sell over 1,000 jars of pickles to make up for the loss. It was amazing to see how he thought. Oh and prices are lower than Walmart.

When the first WinCo opened in the DFW area, several of my friends piled in a car and we drove the 45 minutes to marvel in it opening week. As the video stated , it was word of mouth - one of my friends had lived on the west coast and loved it so much. In most areas their grocery selection is wider than Wal-Mart's, and I have also seen that the WinCo employees are generally friendlier and more helpful than almost every other grocery store - except for one. Since HEB has expanded to my area I'm now deeply conflicted on who's getting my grocery dollars.

I absolutely love going to WinCo. Only started shopping there a few months ago, but I regret not shopping there sooner. Unbeatable prices, for example a bag of chicken wings is about $5-$6 at WinCo, but the same bag would be $10-$12 everywhere else. It's insane. I can get so much stuff for way cheaper than compared to shopping elsewhere. Plus the store is organized neatly, it's never a mess, the deli section is great, you don't need a membership to shop there, and the employees have always been friendly and helpful. If they're still open 24/7 after the pandemic, that right there will launch them to popularity. If I'm not mistaken, Walmart has never returned to having any of their stores be 24 hours after the pandemic (so I suppose the Super Walmart's are now dead...). Not sure how much of their sales happen after 11PM, but people like night time shopping when things are quieter, so there's still a market for 24 hour stores. Heh, I bet Walmart would bring it back if WinCo really began expanding. I'm hapoy to hear there is a company that can rival Walmart, though. Utah is a very brutal market for grocery store chains, especially on the Wasatch Front. For WinCo to even think of entering that market just to get a toehold much less establish themselves the way they have is very impressive. I can completely understand why they waited decades before entering the market here and why they would choose to expand to Seattle before Salt Lake City. The number of empty and abandoned grocery stores is still pretty significant where many have gone bankrupt in this market. The fact that the stores I have been to in Utah are not only in business but almost always busy no matter the time of day that I come there to shop. It really is quite impressive. Albertson's was shut down mainly because many of their stores were very close to or even in the same shopping complex as other Kroger stores. A whole lot was going on there, but I agree Albertson's also had much higher food prices. I love that you made this video. I've lived in Boise, Idaho since 2009 and I 100% go to Winco to grocery shop over Walmart. I will save $20+ a week doing that. I didn't know that it originated here, but I knew about it being named after the 5 states that it started in.

Winco and Walmart have always been next door neighbors here in central & eastern Washington. I shop primarily at Walmart (employee discount) for general goods, services, and some groceries if you can find them on the shelves. Winco is where I like to stock up on food without the need for a silly membership because the prices and selection have always been superior, especially now with the supply chain crisis.

Winco consistently has had the very best bulk bin section of any grocery store I've ever visited. Definite boon to those trying not add waste to the planet.

Screw the planet. I just like the variety. I can't imagine shopping at a store that DOESN'T have "Bulk Foods."

I love Winco's bulk bins. Especially the spices because if you are making a recipe with some unusual spice you don't have to invest in an expensive bottle. Their produce is excellent, fairly priced and a great variety.

Loveddd shopping at Winco when I lived in WA, CA and AZ. Now that I'm back on the east coast, I do miss it!

I love Winco. It's where I always go for 90% of my groceries We did do a full grocery haul at Walmart and Winco and I did save a bit more at Winco then I did at Walmart.

Yeah for my experience they're decent company and actually employ two of my disabled uncles and treat them fairly well. Oddly enough in my area there are three!

I remember going to Waremart as a child and using the grease pens in the big bins at the front of the store to write the prices on your items! It sure has changed. I love my Winco!!

When I took my friend to Winco for the first time couple years ago, she was completely shocked and told me I had open the door to a new world for her
