Wind Noise Reduction for Toyota Rav4 2019 2020 2021 

Decibels are a bad way to measure this. It lacks tone or pitch measurement, which can really change the perceived "loudness" to the ear. If it cuts the wind howl tone, that's pretty good. Go by the ear on this one.

@@bryanoliveira9513 I used high quality weather strip on my 3rd Gen TRD and I removed it in a very short time for all the reasons above. Though it reduced wind noise, it wasn't enough to warrant the damage and hassle the extra stripping caused. It's not that bad to begin.

@@OhMySack gotcha. Outta curiosity have you ever tried P shaped weather stripping that only applies to the side to side door seams (hinges)? Figure that area is different from apply to the top Just curious. Appreciate all the advice my friend

It works great so far. At least I didn’t hear as much wind noise around 60mph right now. Definitely worth the money

What year did you use

Mine is a 2020 rav4. But this is applicable to all 5th generation.

I think by "Taco" he means the "Taco Marine Weather Strip". There is no "year" on that product as far as I know.

@@SuperMan-uj7dh Yes I did, it's much better now with the noise insulation, you still hear the engine but it doesn't sound so thrashy anymore. It took a lot of figuring out to do and improvisation though.

@@2t_mxrider thank you for replying! May I know what material you used under the hood? I was thinking of adding the dynamat hoodliner but it's... quite expensive

@@SuperMan-uj7dh Ok, here's the thing. Dynamat is not absorbing the noise but merely reflecting it and it's heavy. I used inexpensive materials, foil covered, like a high temperature felt. Check these items on summit racing website (type in search on their website): THE-14130 and SFT-INSUL1, plus the thermo reflective tape DEI-010396. I simply used various size pieces of those materials, THE-14130 in the vicinity of the exhaust manifold heatshield and SFT-INSUL1 in the less heated areas and joined all those cut and fit pieces with the high temp golden reflective tape. You can add more layers as needed - I had up to 3 layers of SFT-INSUL1 on the firewall and a two layered blanket above the engine.

@@DryUrEyesM8 yeah I’ve noticed a reduction in wind noise especially at highway speeds, but it’s not 100%, more like 50%. Given how cheap it is, I’m happy with it!

Yeap. That is also a problem and sound deadening does help. You hear that more when you have wind noise reduced too. Always something.

But it is noisy as it is not covering the gaps properly. Definitely looks nicer but point is to stop/reduce wind noise.

Good feedback. Certainly everyone's experience will be different. The Rav4 is basically a brick in terms of aerodynamics. =/

@@Rav4Gen5 yeah, it’s also possible that I put too much in the bottom and makes the top part not touching, I think I’ll try remove the bottom portion to the length you have and see if it’s better. Great videos tho, I watched your speaker videos and did those and they are a huge improvement, thanks!

It’s wind noise after you hit like 55 It’s rides amazing in city but freeway it’s noisy 🤷🏻‍♀️

The striping I have installed in this video is holding very well after multiple summers and winters. I don't see impact to OEM stripping.

@@Rav4Gen5 perfect! And you said sound got reduced from a 10 to a 3? I'll try it on my 2021 Rav4 Hybrid XLE. It's very windy and noisy on the highway at 60+ mph

I would not say sound went from a 10 to a 3. It's still a noisy car. I think better value (but more work) would be sound deadening.

It does help reduce road noise. Wind is still an issue

It's not a Lexus, just a cheap Japanese car. It's normal in this price range.

I did this 3 months ago too. Id say the noise is now 3/10. Totally worth it! Don't think twice. You'll see. The ride is way nicer with this.

I did not measure a before or after and everyone's ears are the difference so my experience will be different than others. I will say that I don't complain as much about it any more.

Toyota is awful. Nobody believes me. Cheaply made poorly designed vehicles. They're getting by selling this crap based on their reputation of selling reliable vehicles in the past.

Yes I’ve always had mini coopers and they are a blast and if on freeway I’d close sun roof it was quiet It’s just this surprised me with the wind noise ,,, but I’m not on freeway much I love my rav 4 just surprised at wind noise
