1983 Cabover Peterbilt found on Facebook Marketplace locally, took a look but ended up not working out. Found another marketplace score in Oklahoma for a 1982 Cabover Freightliner!!!
Good episode. Freightliner was nice catch. Biggest thing to make it ride is taper leaf front springs, or Mack cabover front springs. And decent shocks. Not to firm. Those are light cabs so they don't load the suspension as much. Add as much sound deadening as you can so you can hear the radios gone down the road.
Replacing the frame rails on that Pete is a HUGE job. And that's even if you've got some decent rails forward to tie into. Otherwise pull the cab and engine and use them as a glider kit on a decent frame. It'd be an easier job.
O-H-I-O Porter greetings.🇺🇸 Cabovers Rule!! How’s that for the cabover community? That Pete looked so promising & the paint was done on the cab already. WOW! But that frame….I’m glad it’s a steel frame, but it’s SO FAR GONE! The truck is still worth saving. I imagine that the owner saw that frame & thought he had some BIG mice or Godzilla living in the barn! A big disappointment is an understatement! That Freightliner is a nice reward though! What is the new owner gonna do with it? An you get some action of it before you let it go? Hey, I’m glad that there are those of us that still are interested in them there cabovers!!! Those old trucks, especially cabovers, have lots of style & use yet!! I guess it’s good to jump out of boxes & toot your horn. Hehehe! Blessings.🤩🥰✌️
White painted engine in the Pete is most likely a Caterpillar. That Pete 362, although nice looking paint on the cab, appeared to be in pretty rough shape. The Freightliner is nice! Not much to say about the cab paint, it's pretty plain. The 70's and 80's saw some really nice paint schemes from most of the manufacturers, it would have been really nice if it had been restored in its original paint scheme.
I had a '72 White Freightliner short sleeper (about a 6 inch notch was cut out of the sleeper behind the driver). Built for Bronco Freight out of Colorado. 10 speed and a 290.
Nice. This reminds me of truck I used to play in. My grandfather had a 78? Not to sure on year white freightliner it was green. Poor truck after he passed well I know where that cabover is would love another never find the white Freightliner always ones like this the Freightliner... Nice rig.
I went shopping for an old Peterbilt and now i own a 1986 FLC 120 Freightliner that has only had two previous owners and you dont see 500 of them at every truck show likee KW. And Petes
I would agree, I like those trucks too. There is a gentleman that lives in my town that has a 1984 FLC 120 with a 3406 cat that I’m trying to buy cause it’s just been sitting for as long as I can remember but I have had no luck yet getting it purchased. I think there may be some sentimental value to the owner yet.
I like the Freightliners that had the diamond tucked interior and still had round headlights. It would be a lot of work but I think it would be worth it to strip the cab and repaint it. I'm not trying to be rude, but the paint on the cab is terrible...
Probably could do that, I saw a guy do it with a Cabover kenworth out in California years ago. Took the cab and mounted it to at late 2000’s Kenworth chassis that had the emissions needed to run in California
Can't understand why drivers put regular highway tires on the rear axles. You will cuss the first time you park on wet grass and all you do is spin. Repeat after me. Lug tires on the rear
Uh, most of us don't ever park on grass. So we want the better fuel mileage. Now, I'll always argue for open shoulder tread, because closed shoulder will leave you struggling in winter.
Hot hot Rod thirty 3408 cat motors. You're going for over a $100000 right now. Have seen him with over a million miles onum and no blow by and can still outpull most cummins, Detroit's macks
Bad about breaking bell housing bolts, cracking oil pans yes they make power ,yes they eat fuel ,most old truckers will tell you ,if you listen .If your a owner operator have deep pockets go ahead run what you brung ,Cummins and Detroit will out last most cats if properly maintained
