@@d24 I don't understand why Windows Search is so unreliable at making system searches. I tried both Spotlight Search on macOS and Gnome Search on Linux and they are both faster, have better UIs, and are more reliable.
Nice to see UI getting polished further. I wonder if they'll align buttons in File Explorer title bar - in Edge they increased the size of min/max/close to make the title bar look better. But I don't really like the pronounced/floating look of search/widgets in taskbar; previous build had them flat like rest of the buttons which looked better imo.
@@Mr.Reality It was probably because they introduced (and then killed before it was released) Sets right as they were planning to switch Edge to Chromium, so they had to build a completely new tab system, which as of now is just for File Explorer.
Windows 11 finally catching up with max os. Really love the glass design. I see pretty clean material icon in task bar left corner. Very excited for next big Release.
There wasn't a need to "catch up" with macOS. They are different things, used by people with different needs. Microsoft is killing their own OS because of some macOS fans inside the company.
If they really want to catch up, they should adopt the "new year, new number" scheme macOS finally adopted with macOS 11 Big Sur in 2020, rather than go backwards to a "new version every 3 years" model.
And not necessarily a good design choice to begin with. The currently selected tab should be connected to the webpage it's attached to for coherency. It also doesn't follow the design of other tabbed interfaces across Windows 11, so idk why Zac called it consistent. Lol
@@domibark Yeah, that's the reason why the tab is design such as way, the visual connection it provides means that active tab is affecting the window it is connected to. The new Tab design is disconnected, which looks like a floating button. But well if that's the new tab design they are going for, might as well update the OS-level of it. The issue is if Edge goes with that new Tab design, the File Explorer and Windows Terminal tabs has to be updated. Issue is with File Explorer which is tied to the OS, at least Windows Terminal can be updated independently. Heck current Tab design between Edge, File Explorer and Terminal aren't actually exactly similar.
@@domibark It uses rounded corners and Mica, and the menus use Acrylic. It's still not consistent because the UI frameworks are different, but that's typical Microsoft. You can turn rounded tabs off to return to connected tabs, but that might go once it leaves preview. Safari 15 was initially going to ship with rounded, disconnected tabs as well, but due to lots of complaints, the old, connected design was restored and made the default, with the new design as an option.
The whole point of the desktop is to customise it on how YOU want to see it / use it. If that search bar is non-optional, can you imagine the anger it will create with people who like to see their art of choice on the desktop
Though experimental, the Search button on the left hand side of the Taskbar is rather stupid since the Search flyout is still on the center, but moving it to the left means that it will be always jarring when pressing Windows key to Search as you will see Start menu on the center then cuts off to the left for searching with the Search Flyout on the left side. Unless they move the Start menu on the left as well.
Several builds ago they officially announced the search bar update, which is in the usual location on the taskbar, and insiders can end up with one of 3 design options. A major design change like this may end up not shipping until Windows 12 in 2024. The "Moments" updates that sit on top of the 22H2 OS won't bring major changes as far as the platform goes.
It would be call if they do it like QDir in addition to the tabs feature. Not in tabs but the explorer windows side by side (max of 4) all in a single window.
I think the Bing search bar that ties with Edge is fine. They do the same with Edge widget on Android, while Chrome's is of course is integrated with Google. With the possibility of this being preliminary proof of concept for third party widget support, all is great.
They need to bring back the bar and introduced for touch ui earlier this year I get it was buggy as all hell but that actually made using it as a tablet really nice on the surface line
Now that Microsoft has decided to left-align the search button and make it larger, maybe they could add Search Highlights like they have on Windows 10? (Icon on right side of search bar that shows current holiday)
Windows 11 is already fixed the thing is you need 2 external programs to do it First - StartAllBack for windows 11 to fix and setup taskbar as you desire . Second- Ultimate windows Tweaker 5 for 11 (has so many options its insane ,explorer,taskbar,menu's even fixing the right click context menu to go to the old options) They made the programs so aesthetically pleasing you cant really tell the difference between the Windows 11 interface and the programs one. Had the programs for about 3 months now and no issue what so ever.
They should add the possibility to put the start button on the left like they did with the search button. Being UI buttons makes them different from the other taskbar apps, and it would make much more sense to phisically split generic apps from these UI buttons.
Some of the early Fluent concepts showed exactly that--system buttons on left, apps in center, system tray on right. Windows 10X was the first real implementation of a centered taskbar, with everything but the clock/action center in the center. Start button to the left of apps, and task view either to the right of apps or to the right of the start button. I'm sure they can easily implement a way to arrange different taskbar buttons in different ways, since they were easily able to move the widgets button from the center to the left, and it changes with the taskbar alignment.
Tabs in file explorer? Fine. A search bar in the middle of the desktop? No ty. I mean, you can already search the web by going to the search icon in the taskbar and choosing 'web'. As far as I'm concerned there's no need for a new one. A PC is not a smartphone.
The issue is there is still inconsistencies between the team in regards to UI design. Apparently Edge team is experimenting with new Tab design, though not sure if they really will release that because if it is. Then the Windows team is basically left behind to update the looks and will wait for at last another year for the update. Even the Windows Terminal tab is different from Edge and the File Explorer.
Edge uses the Chromium engine and it's design elements are very similar to that. There was a third party tool around a while back that made your explorer use the Chromium engine and also gave us tabs as a result, I forgot what the name of it was.
Different UI frameworks (win32 Chromium in Edge vs win32 + WinUI in File Explorer). Then again, it's Microsoft and I guess they'll never be consistent. Apple also has some inconsistency, but at least the controls themselves are consistent everywhere, something Windows couldn't do as it would break older apps' layout.
Is there any word on Microsoft adding the ability to move the Task Bar to the top? (Without having to change the darn code). I will revert back to Windows 10 if this will not be implemented.
I have the exact same build just installed yet none of the feature updates shown in this video are included. I couldn't find anything new which was why I went looking for your video to find out what it was that I was missing and yet with 25136.rs_prerelease.220606-1236 I can not replicate any of these new features. :|
@@f3rzz476 I don't understand the point of A/B testing. The whole point of beta-testing is to try out new features early, but if you get put into the group that doesn't get a certain feature, you end up missing the whole point of beta-testing when it comes to that feature!
@@domibark countries such as those in the European Union are targeting Apple and Google with antitrust crap they could also and would also likely target Microsoft too over this Like literally the EU are targeting Apple for putting their own apps such as Pages Keynote and Numbers as well as GarageBand and iMovie on iPhone and iPad preinstalled how is that different from this new bing desktop search bar?
That search bar is dead upon arrival if they don't enable it to use the system's default browser and search engine instead forcing bing/edge on everyone as they always have been doing.

if i could search my apps, files, system AND the web AND if i could configure how my search gets interpreted as a url or choose search engines AND if the search would search every search engine all at once. Now that would be cool and useful.
Linux Mint ( all three desktop flavors) have AND STILL DO..allow you to move the taskbar( called a Panel in the Linux world) anywhere you want and resize it and customize things within it. ;)
@@motoryzen macOS also kept it with the macOS 11 UI redesign and the macOS 13 Settings redesign/rename. I guess the telemetry data showed that not many people moved it.

You meant button ..not bottom and you are too lazy to press the win logo button on your keyboard...why? It does the EXACT ...same..thing as left clicking on the start button...always has since guaranteed Windows vista days.
Bit disappointing really I don't understand why explorer is still so lacking, especially when for Windows11 it looked like they were trying to completely overhaul it. 3 fairly simple things they should have introduced years ago that still go ignored. 1. Option to toggle the navigation bar quickly. If you want a narrow window its irritating. Turn it off and its buried 3 click menus deep to reenable it. I think it should be a toggle/hamburger menu with a keyboard shortcut. 2. Allow folder colour coding or even better reintroduce libraries as simple colour tags. This would be inline with categories in emails too & allow for better filtering. 3. Tabs are a slight move forward but until they introduce some sort of quick splitting feature I dont see the point. They have this in windows itself now but then you are wasting real estate with all the extra UI. Put a split view in for tabs
2:25 to 3:03 so for over two decade easily..windows users have begged microshit for tabs in file explorer. Linux world has had those for around that long of time..and STILL microshit..half-asses it..( facepalms laughing)
Yeah, Microsoft now has a Insider Dev "Chosen" channel, so I'm yet to see the Search Bar on the Desktop which they distributed about a month ago, never mind the File Explorer Tabs. Maybe its because I keep moaning to them each week to fix the Widget and Calendar on the right of the screen that smothers out the Taskbar when it comes out of hidden mode. This was fixed moths ago, then someone messed it up again. Go figure.
You know what be cool is getting rid of all the Spyware, bloatware, bring back the windows 7 start menu, getting rid of that stupid contextual menu when right clicking, and most of all give the user full control back and stop trying to be apple.. Do that and I will come back to windows from Linux.
Somehow they've made everything look worse. I feel like all of the Windows 11 UI looks like those bad "Windows 11" mockup videos people post. What a mess of an OS.
Everyone's going in the futuristic concept-y design direction, but it's definitely better than 10. 10's taskbar from the start was due for a rewrite as it was still win32, but no one expected reduced functionality, let alone raised system requirements.
@@1zy The perfect OS is one that doesn't spy on you, mine your data and sell it all without your permission and without giving you one penny of the sales. That NEVER was windows since guaranteed XP's launching fall of 2001. Linux Mint Cinnamon ( and arguably Mate and XFCE desktops too) however, is a different story ;)
Except when it comes to versioning. macOS is now incrementing the number every year, while Windows is reportedly going back to a 3-year update cycle. At least that means 2024 will bring us Windows 12, macOS 15, iOS 18, but it will only be that way for a year as macOS 16 and iOS 19 will come in 2025, but Windows 13 won't come until 2027. Then again, macOS and Windows were never consistent with their update models since Windows 10 1507.
