Great video, I got a couple of additions to this. 1: Sharing a folder using virtiofs will prevent virtual machines from entering save mode, so if you want to save your virtual machine as it was when rebooting the host this isn't an option 2. While I love xfreerdp there's also remmina that is a bit more user friendly.

Wow, 7 days ago. Thx a lot. Vbox stopped working on me, so had to switch. Even reinstall & upgrading to Linux Mint 21.2 didn't fix it. Luckily after that install QEMU/KVM all of a sudden was visible in apps list (earlier the install didn't reveal it). Seemed so simple - until folder sharing & the GPU driver stuff! Other YT tutorials were only partially useful, but you helped me out BIG TIME. Still no dedicated GPU, but it works.

This is what i needed! but now i am wondering, it would have been a nice idea to show us how to connect with SMB to make the video complete (not sure how different it would have been to RDP)

I have a question. You mentioned that you can use your Linux hotkeys while using the rdp windows. Does this cause conflicts in case there are similar hotkeys within windows that you want to use? Or is there a way to switch between which system is listening to hotkeys? I’m asking because I want to get a better idea of the advantages/disadvantages between this way or just using Virt-Manager. Thank you for the video!

Good question. I can use my Qtile key bindungs, like SUPER+F for fullscreen, SUPER+1,2,3 for switching workspaces even if the focus is on the RDP window. So I can work on Windows 11 in RDP and switch immediately to another workspace in Qtile if required.
@onred_
@onred_ 11 месяцев назад
@@mylinuxforwork what happens when you do super+r, which is run in both qtile and windows. Does the windows run prompt just not show?
@mylinuxforwork
@mylinuxforwork 11 месяцев назад
@@onred_ For Super+r nothing happens on my configuration. When I have the focus on my Win11 VM and I press Super, the Windows start menu opens. When I press Super+1, it moves to the first workspace on Qtile. And this happens with any other key bindings. If a key binding exists in Qtile, the system reacts first on that. Hope I could help?!

Hi there! I appreciate the video. The changes don't take effect when I restart my machine after installing the Spice Guest tools. Paste and copy doesn't work... Exists another option? I appreciate your tutorials.

Great question. I had a better graphical performance with RDP especially with GPU passthrough. You cannot access virt viewer when you passthrough a GPU.

Also I have another question which is unrelated to this topic but you are a Linux expert so I think you can help me. I am trying to install VMware ESXI 8 on kvm and I am trying to do nested virtualization. I have AMD Ryzen 7 processor and my ESXI is working but I am unable to do nested virtualization. I have turned on AMD virtualization on my processor but still ESXI is not detecting it and giving error that the virtualization is not on. Can you help me what am I messing?
