Worked great, the explanation of renaming the files is a bit finicky, but it got the point across >add .ba to the file without .bak >delete .bak from the file that has .bak >now the k to complete the .bak for the file that only has .ba Easy. Thanks for your help!

I was completely locked out of my Windows 7 laptop because of an extra layer of security. Though it may be helpful to go to a "restore point" as noted in the comments below, I first had to gain access to all of my files. This video helped me to do that so THANK YOU! I might add that the following, verbatim is the error message I got: "The User Profile Service service... etc., etc." Yes, there was "Service service". And all was good until Microsoft tried to update on its very own, and that is when the error occurred. So again, Thank You MDTechVideos! Unfortunately, it may be time to retire my Windows 7 laptop which, in my opinion, was the most stable, non-polluted system that Microsoft has put out to date.

When I try and launch in safe mode it scrolls through a bunch of files but then puts me right back on the logon screen. No safe mode options are available.

hey, for me the two folders you said to swap aren't the same and none of them say bac at the end of them. Do I have to swap them anyway or do I just have to make one a backup?

Question: under profile list I only see S-1-5-18 S-1-5-19 S-1-5-20 sub folders

I had to pull the plug & battery out while windows was running & then restart it because that was the only way to get to the 'safe mode' options. I have no idea where you learn this stuff but it works. I'd like to know what caused the problem in the first place? Thanks.

Trying to fix this issue on my laptop running Windows 7 Home but when i get to the Regedit portion, it does not appear when I type Regedit into the search bar. I am assuming that it is blocked and I cannot find how to unlock this in safe mode. Any suggestions?

I have an admin and standard account, and the standard is the one with this error. When I go into safe mode with networking, it still gives me the option to sign into both accounts, but when I press the standard account it still gives me the error. Am I supposed to sign into the admin account and do this, or am I doing something wrong?

Every option I try takes me to a system recovery page which asks for my username and password. I can't get past this page, as it's rejecting everything I'm trying. I originally only set up a password, no username, but it's requiring both.

Hey At the part where you click profile list my computer writes the same thing twice but it changes the last numbers after the hyphen. It's says 1001 on the top And 501 at the bottom. Is that back up as well
