Interested, will wait for the series to complete. Thanks, I turned off my station in 1984 and started buying again about 3, or 4 years ago, but due to work, Gov comms, and the changes, I have to learn the new high-tech stuff, I feel like a novice, lol. If you want to get involved in US Coast Guard Emergency Comms Network, I can point you in the direction, both vhf, and hf.
Great series. Coincidentally, I bought a couple of Kantronics KPC-3+ TNCs a few months ago, right before your packet radio BBS series came out. My question is: the KPC-3+ is considered a "personal" BBS and makes reference to connecting to "full" BBSs. Is LinBPQ/BPQ32 considered a "full" BBS? It seems that one of the differences is that a full BBS can serve up custom content like games (Zork, etc.), files, etc., and the Kantronics TNC BBSs are fixed to BBS (personal mailbox), Node, and Chat options and that's about it. Thanks.
Honestly, I'd never heard of the term personal BBS. I would consider BPQ32 as full as it gets however, as I can't think of any packet node/BBS with more functionality. BPQ32 can serve up any application you want it to, and interface with just about any mode you would want it to as well.
@@ModernHam Got it. Yeah, I think Kantronics was either trying to keep the BBS interface as simple as possible for ease of use, or has memory limitations, or both. The TNC itself can be placed into more advanced modes, but the BBS function is just personal mail box, connecting to other BBSs, chat, etc. No file hosting/sharing or anything remotely advanced. I would like to host a BBS that maybe pulls in real-time local weather, or other basic info that can be scraped from the web. This is my first foray into packet besides some basic APRS, so your series is very welcomed and I look forward to more!
I really appreciate your videos. One thing I ran into with connecting to a remote 2m node, I was told over email that my password challenge and the response protocol was wrong. Could you explain how I could fix this in my config? I'm having difficulty finding answers online.
Great work, Billy. Now a challenge for you. I have a Winlink node with VaraFM and Packet running using SoundModem for Packet. how can I get the BBS to run on the same system?
I'm not sure anything good would come out of it to be honest. Lots of rumors going around and I didn't want my comment section to be the source of any more.
