Today's video, I'll be testing the Mobilinkd TNC4 and various radios I have at the shack here to see what works well. I'll also give a review of the device and compare it to my Kenwood TH-D74A.
Radios tested:
Icom IC-W32A
Icom ID-52
Icom IC-705
Yaesu FT-4X
TYT TH-UV88
TYT 9000D (I forgot to get video of this one, but it worked!)
Alinco DJ-MD5
One note on the Alinco DJ-MD5. They don't mention this radio on the Mobilinkd site when looking for cables. If you have this radio and want to use it with the TNC4 or NucleoTNC, I used the Icom cable they sell on their site at this link - store.mobilink...
FTM-400 Workaround:
• DigiRig - Mobilinkd TN...
If you're interested on building a NucleoTNC, here is the link to the video I mentioned - • Mobilinkd NucleoTNC Pa...

I would love to be able to do m17 on the mobile link tnc since I see under the modem settings one is for m17 but I don't know what vhf frequency to use for it or what program or applications on my android phone works for it

Good video, I have the great ICOM w32a as well the ft 857, I tested my TNC4& Yaesu pretty straight forward, so my question is: is there a way to keep the settings for each radio or once adjusted can be used with different radios( would like to use between the Yaesu and the ICOM)as plug and play? Thank you in advance

Not that I'm aware of unfortunately. That would be nice to have though

That workaround is here. I should have added a link to it in this video and will do now. Thanks for watching! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VYMLzuAU8HU.htmlsi=kVis9blYC2ZDReiw

What's 96000 buds what is does ? 12000 vs 96000
@The_Comms_Channel

9600 is just a bit faster data rate. There's not as much equipment that uses it though so most stuff out there is using 1200

So you're able to do conventional packet radio with the Mobilinkd TNC4?
@The_Comms_Channel
@The_Comms_Channel Год назад
Hi Joe. You sure can. Much of my use is conventional AX.25 on D-RATS.

Excellent video! I just ordered my TNC4. Thanks for the warning about the Baofeng. I’m actually planning to use an older Wouxun KG-UVD1P. Hopefully it won’t have problems.

Thank you! That's awesome! Let me know how things go with it! The Baofengs seem to be hit or miss. A buddy of mine has a few and didn't have any issues and then I have a few other friends with them that had issues. I've not used a Wouxun, but I believe that model has a superheterodyne receiver which is something that generally only higher quality radios have. A lot of these cheaper radios have terrible receivers in them. I think that Wouxun should work well for you!

@@The_Comms_Channel will do! I also ordered the 6 DIN cable for the TNC4 as I plan to have a TYT 9000D in a go box for packet when camping. I may end up with 2 TNC4s, one for the Wouxun and one for the TYT. I may even turn the TYT into a portable digipeater but I’m still new to all of this so I thought I’d start with just packet and APRS.

@The_Comms_Channel Год назад
Nice! I'll be doing a video series on setting up a digipeater based on our setup here, so stay tuned! For that we're using a DigiRig and Direwolf instead of a physical TNC.

Was never able to get a hold of one. Saw one at a hamfest, but it was gone before I came back around to that table. Love the form factor of it
