Except for OEM preinstallations and the odd compatible soundcard. For instance, my Dell Dimension 4100 has some sort of SoundBlaster PCI card, and I heard this music on it after a clean XP installation.
I didn't even realize it was supposed to be playing in the installer until I just got recommended this video. I just found it while browsing exploring the Windows folders.
@@SonicPower Yes, I thought about to do a end credit movie that can play during my funeral, with a highlight reel with my most important moment together with a text scroll, to thank all my friends, family members etc =) 😊👍
Story time: as a ~13-14 year old, I accidentally stumbled upon this song among the install files on my family PC, fell in love with it, and burned it to a CD as many times as it would fit, so I could fall asleep to it on a loop. (My Karaoke machine which was my CD player at the time did not have a working "repeat all" feature.) I fell asleep to this every single night for eons. I still have the disk somewhere.
People that were born the year XP came out are now graduating from high school and have become old enough to go vote, join the military, work full-time, and live lives of their own. Incredible how time flies.
@@gcnelite5983 tbh it's quite the opposite. Back then, OS were just that, and trying to be as efficient as they could be. That,I think that it gave them a personality, and now they're trying to be your "buddy" while fucking with your data, with such a puncheable fake personality,it makes me want to yell at whoever thought this was good design. This is so nostalgic. Windows 98 was on my first family computer but when we got it upgraded to XP, it felt like a jump into what the future would bring. Such a brilliant OS

A legend does not die. Windows XP is the longest lasting operating system, and is still the #1 operating system in some countries. Windows XP is truly legendary.
Windows XP really made me feel like my computer "suddenly spring to life" immediately once I got past the basic text install prompts. It felt like I opened a portal to the future. Now, installing Windows feels cold and slightly ominous. An accurate reflection of how the company has changed.

Windows XP changed Windows forever. Even when looking at just the interface, it stayed the same between Windows 95 and Windows 2000. And all of a sudden... *This masterpiece.*
I grew up with Windows 7 and only used to have XP when I was so young that I hardly remember it. Even though I've never heard this before, it's still nostalgic.
My dad has worked at Microsoft since 1994, and ever since I was born he's occasionally taken me into the MSFT buildings on the Redmond campus to take me exploring. I remember going around the offices, watching the same people that made Windows XP play foosball with my dad or playing Halo CE in after work parties. I didn't know it at the time, but I was there to witness a part of the Personal Computer Revolution, and I count myself lucky to have been a witness of it. This song is a nice reminder of those times I spent in Redmond, and it also reminds me to work hard in school so that I can be a part of the next revolution of my time. 2023 Update: For anyone reading this today, I was recently hired at Microsoft to be a software engineer at their Redmond campus. It's been fun being able to explore all the old buildings with my own badge now!
@@valterpedro1 why? In this generations, you get the both worlds. Anyone can get XP on a vm, we got the literal source code of xp too recently! It's cool af!
SpeedyDaCat - A Person In The Furry Fandom I just learnt a lesson for the 100th time: never be sarcastic on the Internet. Not even preceding an over-the-top hateful comment with "I'll do the job."
Believe it or not i still use it on my old PC. Most of the things still work, but you can barely go to RU-vid now, I mean you can still play the video, but the access is almost impossible from Firefox, while from Chrome there are some bugs, but you can still go to RU-vid.
I remember this music. Now, it reminds me more of hold music... "Your computer is very important to us! Please stay on the line and the installation will finish shortly..."
I never remember hearing this in my childhood, but I still find it nostalgic and it makes me feel safe and comfortable wherever I am. RIP Windows XP. RIP Stan LePard.
Windows XP is still used in tons of third world countries lol ... not every country is as rich as america/europe. Putin himself still uses windows XP to this day. So can't really say its dead.
Windows XP will NEVER die! I use it and enjoy it in a virtual machine every day. It is the most iconic OS Microsoft has ever released. XP was so popular back in the day (and rightfully so), that Microsoft had to support it for literally 12.5 years (or 17.5 years for ESU), which is a significantly longer lifespan than any other OS ever released. XP was the sole version of Windows to include ONLY improvements compared to its predecessors, in every single aspect -- stability, security, performance, appearance, interface, features, customizabilty, and more. Unlike any other version of Windows, XP did not remove any useful features and gave you complete and total freedom to customize the look and feel of your PC without having to rely on some hacks or third-party tools. Not to mention its unique and iconic default desktop background, which is by far the most calming and beautiful among all Windows versions. It actually became the most recognizable picture in the world, thanks to XP's huge popularity and people's understandable refusal to upgrade for so many years. For these reasons (and many more), XP will always have a special place in the hearts of so many people. Even today, 22.5 years after release and a full DECADE after support ended, XP is still used on approximately 9 million PCs around the world. It is insane, but not really surprising given how perfect this OS is!
My school computers still use it, and I've been convincing them to upgrade to Windows 7 since it first came out. Now that I think about it, it's still a great operating system and maybe they shouldn't be forced to upgrade it because some dumb 15-year-old told them so.
This, Ladies & Gentlemen- This is and will forever be the Official Anthem for All Computers Everywhere. A Real Toast to Mainframes, Minitowers, and PCs & Mobiles alike, and to Tech that's Yet to Come. Bless You Windows XP. 💾
When I was a kid I used to fix up my friends and family's PCs and this would always play in the background when I was installing XP. Takes me back to those days where monitors were big and fat and there was such a nice balance between going out to play outside and chatting on IRC & MSN after school! Miss those days.
3:49 Imagine being the people who sung at this part, you're wondering what you're singing for and the person just tells you "Windows XP installation music"
man this takes me back in the old RU-vid days where everyone making tutorials would use this song while filming with unregistered hypercam 2 and communicating to us by notepad.
Legendary OS, Very Advanced, Very Popular (29% Of Computers In This World Still Operated XP on 2019, Making it the 2nd most popular OS in 2019, 1st place being Windows 7 with 44.28% And 3rd place being Windows 10 with 18.29%) The Catchphrase for this OS is: XP= Xtremely Popular
Damn, says something about the collective minds of many from a slightly happier past. Their vision of the future was different. Theirs, knowing that technology can only get better and better. Ours, knowing that Moore's law is ending and the only next advancement we could really significantly make is space exploration into other systems, being way farther then our lifetime. In fact, to get there (assuming sub-light travel) people will be born and will die on that ship. Sometimes I wish I was born in the 90's for this reason. Because it was a time when RTX 3080 kind-of developments were basically monthly.
Yeah back then manufacturers could completely take over the OOBE Now MS streamlined it across all OEMs so most OOBEs are pretty much the same Too bad Windows 10 doesn't have OOBE music tho
Usually if you heard this it was because you bought a brand new computer and it had the correct drivers installed. If you heard this after installing from 98 or something else, you were lucky.

@DamnMerasmus enjoy the thousands of security risks you're exposing yourself to. since you live under a rock, just know that the source code for XP was leaked, and that alone isn't good. your choice
10 years ago today, Windows XP began its journey to the computing graveyard. The OS itself may have just been thousands of codelines wrapped into a neat package, but the memories it helped provide for countless people worldwide are what make it special. You did good son, real good. Maybe even the best.
Well they did make Windows 7. 7 is basically the next XP and its going to hang on to life like XP because M$ couldnt be bothered to release a good OS after it
@@P7777-u7r Considering the crap they're doing with the forced updates and what not, maybe not? Microsoft seems to have gotten it into their heads that they know better than you do what you want installed on your computer.
@@techosarusrex "Quality updates" is concerningly vague. Frankly I don't care what kind of updates it is, don't force updates. If I want an insecure OS that's what I'll use, I just installed Windows XP on a VM to play some older games I have, and at least I have that freedom. I worry about the day when I can no longer do that with the future's equivalent. Microsoft has said they're not going to make a new OS for a while. Imagine if next there's an update that changes something so significant, that older programs may struggle to run, even though they're written for that same OS. It'd be like the OS changes from before, but more subtle. Now it'll forcibly update me to the new version that has issues with older stuff, and I might not be able to run those things anymore. I know that sounds like a scenario that Microsoft wouldn't cause, but I don't want to put my trust in someone else to not be incompetent. Just let me have control over my own computer, and if they don't screw things up, I'll happily update. This new way of doing things is just weird, and I'm not even some old fart who's stuck in some way he's been doing things for years.
I remember coming here and rating this 5 stars if anyone remembers that RU-vid, was such an entertaining time, all homebrews, no bs, just having a good time before it turned into a career choice. The age of XP truly was remarkable, flash and java were what thrived. There just isn't anything that can compete with the community we had in those times.
RU-vid before the buyout, Microsoft when they were still worth a shit and competent...man such good times. I used to come home from middle school with burger king and watch the Angry Video Game Nerd on Cinemassacre's website for an hour. The video just barely buffering ahead of the play time, stuttering sometimes. On a CRT monitor and a early 2000s desktop.
@@MrWolfSnack That's some hardcore nostalgic vibes, I really miss it. It truly is a shame all these businesses grew up and so out of touch with us. Even back when Flash Player was really getting into its user base, so many memorable silly little games. People that made content could just be themselves, so many things you could say back then and it offends someone/ends a career these days. I miss those simple times.

I'm sad because I was too young to understand anything about Windows XP, much less about computers... I was born a couple years before Vista came out. I built a Win98 PC as well as restored an old Optiplex GX620 (had no OS, was in dire need of cleaning, sat in a closet for four years, etc) for the sake of learning why these systems were so nostalgic for everyone else. The Win98 PC isn't quite old enough (only parts I had were from 2000s era) but it boots with no issues. My only memory of WinXP is some old desktop we used to have until it was donated recently
@@aidancommenting I have an old Windows 98 computer myself. I don't remember much about its early history, but it belonged to an old family friend whose name is Steve Loforte (I think he is still alive, but it's been probably almost 20 years since I saw him as a little kid) and I believe it originally ran Windows 95 until I upgraded it with some family help to Windows 98 Second Edition sometime in the very early 2000s.

I know, nowadays the whole thrill of new operating systems and hardware is completely gone. Remember when everyone had a unique PC and there was always something interesting to do with them? Nowadays they've really standardized everything and made it pretty bland. Weird how this picture kinda shows 3 versions of the Windows logo since XP. *(edited because of W11)* Windows XP : Obvious to see. Windows 7/Vista : In the reflection. Windows 8/8.1/10 : The reflection in the blue part of the XP logo looks flat, doesn't it? Edit : As of Windows 11 now being released, I'm screwed for finding this one in the picture. The blue reflection has the slight angle of Windows 8/8.1/10, and isn't 100% flat like Windows 11. One could argue the green reflection doesn't have the "slight angle" visible, but the colours in the reflection are wrong.

Same here. I'm 26 now, but I remember saving up my money back in 2003 - a whole $99 - just to get the upgrade CD for Windows XP Home Edition from Walmart. I used it to upgrade my Windows 98 HP computer. When I heard this music for the first time, I was so excited - being on the cutting edge of technology (well, in the sense of software, anyway) and getting something pristine and new without the OEM junk. I eventually sold it on eBay once I moved on to a different computer. Somewhere, out there, a small part of my childhood - a product key - is hopefully helping someone else put new life into an old computer. RIP Windows XP.
