On this episode we travel in our Jeep Gladiator to the East coast to wheel at the largest privately owned off-road park in the country; Windrock.
It's been over a year since we've seen our friends Steve and Angie from ‪@jeepgreatstories‬ so when it looked like our schedules would align, we jumped at the opportunity to spend a week with them! We wheeled together for nine weeks in Moab last year and it was really cool to catch up again. We also crossed paths with Brad from ‪@ProdigalOverland‬ and some of his family; such great people!
During our three days of wheeling we managed to complete a bunch of trails including 51, 53, 66, 67, 27, and 28. Because of mechanical issues and poor conditions we weren't able to finish 16. We checked out 15 and if we had better conditions we may have tried it! Although the rock bouncer on 43 stickys said he had a hard time so maybe we were better off not trying it.

A Diamond Back tonneau cover allows you to store items on top of it 400 to 1600 pounds…it has plenty of tie downs, ultra secure for things inside the bed.

I agree. I have one myself and it man be the best addition to my JT. Thing is practically bomb proof. Security and being waterproof is huge.

The DB cover is nice!! We were initially looking at this but we've kept everything light on this build and that cover has got some weight to it.

Another off the charts adventure you shared with us Nick! So I got myself up to desert country with a good job, and a place where the feeling that I got my head above water and continue my build. Did you ever hear that saying, we tell God our plans, and He laughs? And laughs and laughs and laughs... I lost my job just at that time, and my kid (The CoPilot [tm]) started having massive anxiety and over stimulation attacks, where he not only doesn't leave the house, but I never travel too far away from him. I'm so happy that our paths crossed though. My next big move is to get the articulation going to make the best use of that front axle. The kid'll be fine and we'll ride again. Meanwhile I'm getting some time to get my game up on desert pre-running. I can't wait to hit them rocks though! It was exciting to see you use that winch, no shame in it! Another tool I'm excited to use though (always learning) is my high lift jack. You can jack a jammed side of the truck up and slip rocks or a ramp of some sort under the wheel.

Great stuff. Glad to see you guys visiting us out here on the east coast. Wind Rock can definitely be a "slop" fest most of the time, but when it's dry there's plenty of articulating and crawling action. Plus it's a HUGE park.

@@FarFromOrdinary lol 😆. Yeah I was kidding. I've been when it's a little less wet, but the holes and tree covered areas are mostly slush all year long and the climbs are sometimes grippy.

Replace those stock driveshafts with double cardans. It’s not if but when the stock shafts will fail. And I feel your pain - I hate mud.

He got 120K miles out of the stock shaft! Not too bad. We're already running an Adams.

Colorado for the win! I did Windrock the same time of year last year. It was nice, but a few months later I came out to Colorado and did Red Cone- I was sold. The rock, the views, the weather-this was my kind of wheeling. I’m glad I did Windrock just do I could see what everyone was talking about, but I don’t care if I ever go back. East coast wheeling isn’t for me!
@FarFromOrdinary
@FarFromOrdinary Год назад
Yes!! Agreed all around. It was really cool to wheel in the park and I imagine it would have been totally different if it were dry!

That looks rough! Too bad you guys had problems with the driveshaft. Seems like every video I watch with Jeeps, at least one is always breaking. Don’t feel bad about your camp organization. Our family has been camping for many years and we still have a jumbled up mess in the back! It just adds to the adventure.

Thanks man!! We've been running the autoLYNX by Apex for well over a year now and they've done really well. A lot of the flex comes from the long travel Rocksport shocks, we removed all of the Mojave suspension last Sept.

Would you suggest any other upgrades if you go from stock 33s to 37s? I have a 22' Gladiator rubicon
@FarFromOrdinary
@FarFromOrdinary 11 месяцев назад
I'd add an AEV spacer lift to give more breathing room, some shock relocation brackets to get the most out of your OEM shocks, and if you're running stock wheels add some Synergy 1.75" wheel spacers to clear the arms.

Hey I'm trying to be respectful LMAO....you couldn't pay me to return to Windrock. If I lived out East would be different that's really the only place to go. But living out West...it's an entirely different world. Windrock compared to the West is a different planet.

Hey thanks! We went ahead and got the 10.5'. I was running the 10.5" since I was on 37's and a 1.5" spacer lift. Didn't want to repurchase them after moving to a 3.5" lift .

@FarFromOrdinary
@FarFromOrdinary 9 месяцев назад
Very few times we'll get into a position snaking through thick trees where we come close to hitting a back fender or light but overall the length is no issue. It's actually a benefit in more cases than it is a hinderance.

If you had to do it all over again, would you still go with the Mohave or the Rubicon? I’m torn. I love the suspension on the Mohave but giving up the that front locker and disconnect is hard to do. Truth be told in AZ I’d find the Mohave to be ideal but those occasions when you need that front locker and it’s not there…
@FarFromOrdinary
@FarFromOrdinary 8 месяцев назад
oh man that's a tough question. I would say since we our main thing is rock crawling, we should have gone with the Rubicon. I say this only because of lower gearing on the tranny in 4 LO. We have learned to get y without a front locker, and honestly man I can only count 2-3 times where we had to winch, but could have had a chance with a front locker. Also, for big events like EJS and Trail Hero, you can't actually book trails more than a 6 without actually having a front locker (a form you have to submit) so there's that. When it comes down to it, the lower gearing in the t case is the single biggest advantage that a Rubicon has over the Mojave. You just have to decide if that's important to you. And don't get caught up in the OEM Fox's; they are absolutely great but you can always add something on later that might be better like Bilsteins or Metalcloaks upcoming long travel resi's. hope this helps!@@christopherm.esparza705
