WINDSHIELD INSTALLATION ON JIM'S 1957 OLDSMOBILE ROCKET 88

Well done camera work on the Windshield install Jolene. Ages ago I was a Glazier's Apprentice for about 2 years, and put in hundreds of windshields. It was fun to watch these two gents go at it on this Oldsmobile. The rope was as least twice as large a diameter that was should have been used. We always cleaned everything pristine before starting, including the rubber gasket. We'd never use an oil derivative lubricant as if there was a gasket leak the caulking wouldn't stick. Hopefully it will seal up as is and you'll be golden.

I'm glad Chad went out to see Jim the first time and got him back into being around other people, loneliness can be horrible. I like privacy and not too much socializing ,but I do enjoy talking to someone once in a while and connecting.

hi chad-never put anything slick in the windshield groove-it will give it a place to come off the glass-place the bottom in to the car first and slap it in and down-pull the top of the glass and rubber down to seat the bottom. once the bottom is in; lube the inside on the rubber so it will slip in as you pull the rope-pull the rope about a foot at a time on each side until you get within a foot from the center-now pull both sides until the rope comes out. now slap the glass until it seats. I have been in the body shop 40 years. I am retired now and build hot rods. I really like your show and have picked up some great tips along the way. keep going and i will keep watching. Larry

Jim made me think of something. I bought a van with a 4.3 V6 that flooded terribly! So bad that in the mile from where I bought it to my house, it gained almost a quart of gas in the oil! Everyone said you need to try a temperature sensor. I would’ve bet money that they were wrong. But a $17 sensor cured it completely so that vehicle he was speaking of running poorly when it’s cold could have the same issue possibly. I’m not a big fan of computer control stuff, but we’re stuck with it so I better get used to it I guess. glad the windshield worked out. “👍Looking good!”

When I was 13 years old my Great Dad taught me to drive on our Blue and White 1957 Oldsmoblile Super88. I loved that car and wish I owned it now. Jims Olds reminds me of ours but we had more paint and parts and interior on ours. They are a beautiful design inside and out and I vividly remember how much Torque that Rocket engine had and how nice and smooth the entire car was. thanks for the videos to remind me of the good ole days.

Excellent, Im glad you guys decided to do this today the tutorial is really handy, I just pulled the upper tailgate off my Hillman estate to strip and paint it and I'll need to refit the window when I put it back spare windows I have so Im not bothered about braking the glass other than the mess it makes

Nice to watch. Reminded me of replacing a windscreen on my mk.1 Capri. Had completely forgotten the whole thing. My old dad helped me. We soaked the rubber in hot soapey water to make it flexible, passed a cord from inside to outside the car, and between us in went in like magic. Good times. Windscreen cost £5. Had to remove it from the scrap yard myself, broke the 1st one, pushed the 2nd one out with my feet. Think that was 1985. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
