I sent this video to several friends a few days ago via text message and received a big thumbs up for doing it. One friend said he actually made notes for his next shopping trip.
My wife and I enjoyed a 2010 Chateau Brane-Cantenac last year for our anniversary dinner with some really good steak. I have to say, it was absolutely delicious and one of the best wines I've ever had! Thank you for including that one, I whole-heartedly agree!
Thank you for these outstanding Bordeaux wine recommendations, John. It’s great to have these options since wine coming from this famous region can be quite expensive. I’m definitely saving this video for future reference. I appreciate your detailed explanation on each wine. You are well-versed on Bordeaux wines, and I trust your expertise. Well done! Cheers! 🍷🍷
We had a 2009 Saint Pierre last night and it was amazing. Hints of spearmint on the nose, ripe fruit and earthy complexity on the palate, silky tannins. Paired so well with herb roasted lamb, potatoes, and quinoa salad. It was a phenomenal meal with good friends.
@@AttorneySomm how would you compare against the chev of that year? Seemed reasonably comparable in terms of price/quantity so I was rather torn between which bottle would get the spot in my remain fridge space.
Thanks for the excellent video John, you rule ! One of my fav under $75 is Duo by Conseillante. As you know it´s La Conseillante 2nd label and it runs for about $75 or so. I would love to see a video about Cayuse someday. I just returned from a trip to Seattle and we had a wine tasting 14 of us. Of the wines we opened that I never had before and that were extremely unique were Cayuse "Bionic Frog" and Cayuse " Flying pig". Very very hard to get wines unless you buy them in the secondary market at a huge price increase, but the wines were VERY unique indeed. Blood, iron, soy sauce, feet, and funk....yup VERY weird. Keep up the excellent work
Thanks so much! Excellent suggestion! I’m a big fan of Conseillante as well! I also enjoy Cayuse and have been on the list for a few years. Fantastic wines! My favorite from Washington for sure. Cheers! 👍🍷
I've had several bottles of Domaine de Chevalier, mostly 2010's (a few I can't recall) with a 2010 currently in the cellar for a future special occasion. Lovely wines, the 2010 was one of the wines that really put me onto the idea that higher price Bordeaux could really be worth the extra money spent. Might have to check out the Saint-Pierre as well as that seems to have me written all over it!
Just as I started this video, my World Atlas of Wine 8th Edition arrived in the mail LOL. You're a good luck charm for wine! Can't wait to open up a Bordeaux soon.
Great video. My favorite Bordeaux’s unfortunately have climbed in price the past several years. Haven’t been inclined to purchase a Leoville Las Cases, Lynch Bages or Decru Beauacaillou since. I did however stumble recently on a Dufort-Vivens (2nd growth Margaux) for $88 after coupon and thought that was a bargain. Bought four, opened one and decanted it for 6+ hours. It was amazing. Sitting on the others. I appreciate your content. You have a new subscriber. Thanks!
Thoroughly enjoyed this video. Bordeaux is my absolute favorite. Enjoyed hearing your 10 of favorites Bordeaux wines at this price range, John! I'm looking for good vintages now so I can stock up my cellar. Thanks a lot for your detailed analyses of these wines. It was very helpful. Looking forward for more great videos. Cheers John!
So many of my favorites! Pomerol and it's seductive silkiness is my current favorite, but maybe it's time for another blind lineup of left vs right bank? Will look for Saint-Pierre and Les Cases Le Petit Lion next
@@AttorneySomm I will say that some of your content does send me into a slight depression as I live in Vancouver Canada and the price difference from what you are quoting in US pricing to our pricing up here is insane. Most of the bottles you outlined in this video that can be had for around 70 in the US are 150-180 here…. :(
@@danielplainview4778 Sorry, yes that is unfortunate. Many are even less than $75 in the EU because of the 3 tier system in the US. All I can say is they are at least relative values at this tier. Last time I was in Canada I was shocked at wine prices and just ordered cocktails and tried some Canadian wine.
Great selections, John! Absolutely love Bordeaux! This is such a great series and I always enjoy the insights on producers and your favorite vintages. I'm very new to wine but plan on collecting. Definitely taking notes on these wonderful wines to look out for at great price points. Thanks for doing these reviews, I loved every little bit of this video. I deeply appreciate you making epic and honest wine contents here and all your social media accounts. Cheers John!
Thanks for the iinteresting video. It seems that the retail price in France is more expensive than in US comparing with the price you gave in the video. Some of the wine you presented are far more expensive in France, especially, such as Domaine de Chevallier red (in fact the price for the white is growing like a rocket), Beychevelle, Lynch-Bages, Pontet-Canet.. even though we forget the higher French VAT. So you are luckier in US than in France.
@@AttorneySomm Yes in France a great part of chateaux Classés 1855 and other outstanding wines, such as ones in Bourgogne or in Rhone are for futures. But wines are generally becoming more and more expensive, especially the grands crus in Bordeaux and Bourgogne. Some of them has skyrocketed. Can you imagine a Beychevelle 2019 for more than 110 euros (VAT 20% included) ? Or a 2020 future for more than 80 euros to be delivered in 2023 ? 4 years ago I bought a Domaine de Chevalier red for 40 euros, now it costs 70 - 80 euros and the white costs 100 euros in average. Of course most of them become more and more expensive steadily, I mean in a regular way.
I really enjoy all of your videos John, you're doing a tremendous job and I'm always learning something new from you. I live in Ontario and I see Château Brane-Cantenac 2018 for $140CAD. Would it be worth it in your opinion for that price?. All of our wine and liquor here in Ontario is government run unfortunately. Thank you if you do see this. Looking foward to your next video.
Hello Eva! Thanks so much for the support and kind words. Truly appreciate it! The US dollar is strong right now and is 0.73 to $1 CAD. Adjusted for the strength of currency, that seems to be about right to me (although it sounds much higher). An excellent wine! Cheers!
Good video. Thanks. Please do not discount the 11s, 12s and 14s, all of which are drinking well now (whilst waiting for the 15s, 16, etc to mature). Most of my clarets are bought en primeur (futures in your terminology) and are excellent value. However, my go-to wine merchant has released a few Cru Bourgeois 2010s at good prices, which hit the spot. This weekend, though, will be a Rioja weekend with game stew tonight and sirloin steak tomorrow.
Thanks very much! Definitely some excellent wines in the vintages you mentioned as well. I’m just more cautious with those vintages since I don’t want anyone to be disappointed and they can require more selectivity. Also a nice idea re the 10s! Sounds like a fantastic weekend plan! I’m a huge Rioja fan as well. Enjoy! 👍🍷
so all these wines are $75 or Less, do I have that right? how bout Tour Saint Christophe, Laroque for under $40 and Siaurac, Villars, Boutisse, d'Aurilhac and Fonreaud for under $20, glug glug
Yes, I ran some searching on Google and found each of them available for sale for $75 or less. I also did a video on Bordeaux for $50 or less that features Tour Saint Christophe and some others. That is available here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-t64Nd_Yn7wE.html
Thanks; do you have a generic video on how/where/when to purchase wine. Obviously state regulations vary. Anyway, what is your approach to purchase wine.
Terrific question! One excellent example is the Guigal lineup. The La Las are my favorites and often about $500. Chateau d’Ampuis is around $100. I think you get about 80% of the benefit with that wine. Feytit Clinet from this Bordeaux video compares very favorably to wines that are $200 a bottle or more.
Completely agree. Fantastic wine! This was a futures offer as I recall. I always run a search to confirm availability within the price range before recording. 👍🍷
