The most important aspect of Wing Chun is the concept of occupying center. This cannot be overstated. It's necessary to train with a mindset of occupying your opponent's center otherwise your techniques will not work. Let's discuss!

I really like that you do incorporate concepts from the non HK lineages of WC. Everyone is so fixated on Yip Man's or Bruce Lee's interpretation. And the explanation of the Jong is great. Coming up in WC everyone was telling me, the Jong is where you get your techniques or combos from. But when I watched IP Chun demonstrate how to apply the movements from the jong, the bong sau was always thrown as the "wrong bong". So your info about how its really to correct a mistake is golden. Suddenly all the stuff from that form makes way more sense now

It's funny how some things connect sometimes. Been doing Wing Chun 17 years and the phase "occupy the centre" sums so much up about Wing Chun and what I've been working towards. It's not something I think I would have understood even a decade ago but can take it in and appreciate it now. 🤘

@Adam Chan Chan Sifu...I can only say what I always think if I see a CLIP from you- I LOVE the kind of your movements! AND your are so damn fast 👍🏼😊. If I see your speed then I have 2 admit ..- I can't inagine how fast Bruce Lee was! I mean it is a BIG different 2 see this EPIC footage of 1964 and 1967 at Long Beach of Si-jo Lee on RU-vid and TV or 2 see him in REALITY next 2 me for instant! OF course- I've NEVER seen Li Siu Lung! I was born 5 years after he UNFORTUNATELY had 2 passed away! What I wanna say is, I only see your movents in RU-vid and I'm always enthusiastic! About your skills, applications, your whole personality....and so on! But your speed is excellent, amazing...-I just love it 2 see your demonsrate your Ving Tsun skills! Your elbow works a little bit different of Sifu Philipp Bayer but that's not the point or important 4 me! And I've seen a clip where you meant- U aren't a Sifu cause U are still learn! I think you are a very smart, symphatic and a humble personality...- WITH A FEW WORDS- "YOU ARE A SIFU - OF COURSE! - LEUNG TING should B a "GRANDMASTER" and U aren't supposed 2 B a SIFU! Lauhgin allowed!!! Here in Germany and other countries of Eurpe there are so called Sifu's and they are NEVER OF YOUR LEVEL OF SKILLS! From a small group of Sifu's in EUROPE ,I almost consider only ONE person as Sifu or even a "GRANDMASTER". This is Sigung Philipp Bayer. And in my opinion- the lineage of WSL/Philipp Bayer is ONE OF most effective Ving Tsun style! That's also a reason why I LOVE your WSL Ving Tsun! BEST GREETINGS from Germany Adam Chan SIFU! Keep on your fantastic video clips!!! ☯️👌🏼👌🏼🙏🏼☘💚

I think the biggest mistakes when we practice wingchun is we only learn how to handle stright punch . So when we fight againts boxer, mma artist, Muay Thai or kick boxer who throw combo punch and many variation kicking, our wingchun become useless. Shifu, please give us more and more the tips how to handle combo punch and variation kicking (and i think wingchun practisioner Must develope or create ground fighting style too) Thanks

So Master Adam Chan I decided to choose Wing Chun Kung Fu over Shaolin Kung Fu because it's the most popular and used Kung Fu style and it's been called the strongest most direct Kung Fu styles
@watamutha
@watamutha 3 года назад
They're both very different styles. I will say Shaolin Kung fu is probably much better at conditioning your body and teaching it to work together as a unit. Wing Chun is good for understanding some kung fu principles fairly quickly and the touch reflex you develop.
@jean4j_
@jean4j_ 3 года назад
@@watamuthaHave you practiced Wing Chun? I agree with what you said. I guess Wing Chun teaches you about some interesting body mechanics and principles but doesn't condition well your body. In my opinion Wing Chun is great at trapping range but has very limited value at other ranges. Would it make sense to study Wing Chun in addition to a more full-contact style like boxing, kickboxing, karate (kyokushin) for the trapping range? Some people argue that it wouldn't work because the principles are totally opposite, but I don't agree with this. What are you thoughts?
@watamutha
@watamutha 3 года назад
@@jean4j_ I havent done WC but I know enough abt their training to know they dont have a lot of conditioning exercises like other styles of kung fu do. If I wanted to be a good fighter, I probably would pair it with judo and kickboxing. Yes their trapping is good but they need to know how to react when grabbed (judo) and how to fight a bit outside trapping range (kickboxing).
@jean4j_
@jean4j_ 3 года назад
@@watamutha typically it's a bad style for "health benefits" due to the very little cardio they do I feel
@watamutha
@watamutha 3 года назад
@@jean4j_ Yes but you can learn to condition yourself. One overlooked aspect of kung fu I think is that there’s a spiritual feeling to it. I don’t mean like religious, I mean there’s a certain flow to when you start practicing the form that’s very fulfilling. I think that’s why a lot of people like it. I haven’t gotten that feeling from some more combat oriented martial arts.

also Wing Chun is good and effective for self-defense and fighting like Shaolin Kung Fu and it has been used in MMA just look at Tony Ferguson and Anderson Silva Oso Wing Chun Kung Fu versus Sanda who wins

But those people DID NOT really know wing chun, at least, the EFFECTIVE AND EFFICIENT version of it! For wing chun to work COMPLETELY, you must know the entire traditional system, which is complete, and also understand the inner workings so you can explain it to your beginner students in a way they can understand. That is very important! It is better to understand why it works then to just go through the motions and don't understand what makes the system works so well. This also includes the proper footwork (the circle inside the triangle), along with the angled step and body rotation towards the attack, to see it coming and pull you away from the attack. You must also know and understand all ten concepts, and use them all at once for the system to work optimally and efficiently! Unfortunately, modified wing chun only uses six of ten concepts, does not protect both sides from attack because they use the centerline ONLY and not the center AND central lines, which protect BOTH SIDES from attack! It also uses an inferior 70/30 stance, which sends your energy BACWARD, not FORWARD as it should. It also introduces flaws (because only one side is really protected), and stiffness into the system. Only Wong Shun Leung's system works on the streets because he broke the system down to its component parts, analyzed it, found the flaws, and added something that helped to overcome MOST of the flaws of the system. He found that maintaining contact until you are able to enter in and attack! There is a saying in wing chun by Gigung Wong Shun Leung, and it goes like this: Loi Lau Hoi Sung, Lat Sau Jik. This translates to the following edict: Loi Lau- This means to "engage the enemy, stay with them and form a bridge with the attack, intercepting the path it takes." Hoi Sung- This means to "take advantage of their errors, following their mass of center when they withdraw, attacking the opponent without worries." Lat Sau Jik- This means when the hands are released, ATTACK DIRECTLY WITHOUT HESITATION! (Very important!). All this information is in the book by Master Allen Gibson called Beginning Wing Chun. This simple movement allowed him to overcome the lack of footwork found in the modified system. But you must have an extraordinary sense of touch, and have complete knowledge of the system FIRST, before you can use it as effectively as Master Wong Shun Leung. This edit would also work well with any traditional system.

Wing Chun does not work if you do not occupy center. Wing Chun does not work if you do not practise extensively. Wing Chun does not work if you do not achieve fluidity of movement. Wing Chun does not work if you practice Selectively. All aspects of your psychical must be engaged during practice. Don't neglect footwork for hand speed. Wing Chun does not work if you do not insert imagination/creativity. The combinations are infinite. Wing Chun does not work if you do not believe in your self. With infinite combination possibilities...any start can lead into a linear flow or an infinite flow. How do you practice Wing Chun. Get up. Move. Don't stop. Be creative. Have fun. Always dissect. Challenge all. Challenge self. Mix punch. Mix chop. Mix palm. Mix kick. Mix Biu Jee. Mix elbows. Mix knees. Mix these with intent when needed. Have fun the rest of the time. "Practicing" Wing Chun should be the process of consciously improving your kung fu. To not get stuck in the same method/routine is an every day self-reminder. That the body is tired from practice does not mean that the mind can not practice kung fu. How long should you practice kungfu???...idk about you but, i think its like a switch. Once you really know kung fu...
