Arrival 12/09/14 smooth Landing with a good view of the thrust reversers, see a flash of Maho beach underneath and part of the taxi to gate with a little view of the Island.
Smooth landing, it's a change having the wing view perspective, you don't realise how skilled the pilots are to fly the plane that low, without hitting the people :0. Subbed!
If the plane was flying low enough to hit any people, then it would've also been low enough to crash through the fence that separates the beach from the airport
Schipholhotspot it would be normally, but at that time maho beach had just rocks and low sand, so couldn't get many vids from there, but no complaints, it's a great place anyway.
skbenergy Yep, but I wasn't around Maho much this time, had days in other Islands, including St. Barts and Saba, got a good view of St kitts and Nevis from there.
Think she was in the row in front, sounds like she was talking about what she had planned there. But yes some people don't realise what a great view they're missing.
It's a very short runway for big aircrafts like this, there's not even taxiway for return at the end. Dutch pilots are among the bests, the touch was imperceptible and the reverse was short too. I think this airport only works at daylight, see no lights of approximation in any end of runway. Plus don't know if can work when wind is opposite, needing landings coming from the mountains.
+XBarajasX The airport is still active at night, there are scheduled international fligths that arrive and depart after dark. Sometimes small vehicles land from the hill side, jet powered aircraft always land from the ocean regardless of wind direction.
+XBarajasX A runway is either long enough or it isn't. "Very short" isn't really a thing. You can land on Runway 28 (from the mountains) but only visually (no instruments) which means it's basically never big jets, only small planes.
Awesome video, congratulations ! Love that view of the engines. Would really like to know the seat number since I am flying on a KLM 747 Houston-Amsterdam in economy comfort in July.
+ehsan83 Yes, that is normal. In combination with the spoilers the meaning is to dump lift as soon as possible so the wheelbrakes work at their best. When the lift is dumped, the "friction" on the tarmac from the wheels is much better and therefore better brake action.
+John van gaarderen True. They are also called Krueger flaps as for the german engineer and inventor of them Mr Krueger. I actually posted my comment 8 months ago when i didn't know that they were not slats. I went to wikipeida and learned about them. very interesting ;)
+ehsan83 Some misconceptions here from people that really don't know the specifics of this airplane. The reason the inboard and mid-span Leading Edge Flaps retract as soon as the reverses are activated is to protect them from debris flying all over when reverse thrust is applied, as soon as the reversers are closed, these flaps deploy again. All this is an automatic feature and has nothing to do with lift, as it is explained in the "flight controls" chapter of the Boeing 747-400 manual
